Scorpion's Honor

Day 854, 15:46 Published in Japan USA by Dokomo

As long time followers of my paper might have noticed, I have talked extensively on the topic of Bushido and how it relates to eJapan. I have tried to spread the influence of the Samurai to all of our citizens. But it shames me to see a party with such a noble spirit like the ISP cast aspersions on the Scorpion Clan for being unworthy of trust.

Let me then show you how the Scorpion Clan follows the tenets of Bushido, and perhaps you will gain some small measure of enlightenment.

* Gi (Honesty and Justice) - Set lies aside. A samurai does not make honesty or justice a matter for debate; he knows that there is only truth and falsehood, justice and injustice.

Yes, the tenet that we Scorpion will probably violate the most. Lies are the tools of the Underhand and the Master of Secrets coin and trade. But Justice, that is something the Scorpion will always see done.

* Rei (Polite Courtesy) - A samurai is neither a bully nor a brute killer. He must treat his enemies with courtesy.

The Scorpion Clan treats all people, friends and allies with the respect and seriousness they deserve. Let it not be said that we view this as a game, but a struggle with real consequences for the Empire.

* Yu (Courage) - Only fear of death can destroy life; the samurai replaces it with an understanding of danger.

Any member of the Scorpion Clan will face trials with bravery. We fear no shadows and know that any sacrifice we make is done out of necessity.

* Meyo (Honor) - Praises and curses are not what defines honor; the samurai reserves his judgement for himself.

The Scorpion knows that he is honorable and following Bushido in his way. He does not need the ISP or others to tell him that he has failed or succeeded.

* Jin (Compassion) - Just as the farmer does not grow crops merely to fill his own belly, the warrior does not fight for himself alone. A samurai must be constantly aware of the duty to protect others.

The Scorpion Clan vows to see the destruction of the Empire's enemies by whatever means necessary, but that hardly means we will be rude about it. When we confront you, there will always be an easy path to take.

* Makoto (Complete Sincerity) - A samurai's words and his actions are one and the same. To 'promise' would be redundant.

When we state something, you may trust in our sincerity. Even if we are lying, we will be doing it with all of our will and thought behind it. Impolite truths after all can bring dishonor to others. We will tell the lies that need be told to save face.

* Chugo (Duty and Loyalty) - Actions and their consequences define those who take them. The samurai's loyalty to those that he guards for is unshakable.

The Scorpion's greatest Strength. We will be loyal to the Empire, forever. We will do all we do in the service of the Emperor. We will go further and do the things for the Empire that the Emperor and his officials cannot do. We will bring dishonor and shame on ourselves so that the rest of eJapan may prosper. And when we have done all this and the rest of you despise us, we will rest comfortably knowing that we have been loyal.

To illustrate this point let me tell you another tale.

Once upon a time, in Congress, a SOS-Dan member asked "So, what is the most important virtue a samurai possesses?"

His friend, from ISP, responded "Strength! For a weak man is not a man at all!"

Off to the side a Ronin answered calmly, "Courage, for even if a man is strong if he is a coward his strength will not serve him."

Many in Congress nodded in agreement but it was a Loli who spoke next. "Resourcefulness I think. Strength and Courage are good and well, but if a man cannot think, he cannot make use of any of his virtues."

And from the shadows, the Scorpion whispered, "Loyalty. For if a man is not loyal all of his virtues serve your enemies." The other Congressmen sat in silence and then began to nod their heads. The last to nod was the Imperial Sun. "Pah! What does a Scorpion know of loyalty?" he exclaimed.

The Scorpion smiled and asked "Would you like to put that claim to the test?"

"A single Imperial Sun is worth a hundred Scorpion any day!" was the reply.

The Scorpion only smiled slightly. "Perhaps on the battlefield, but not here in Congress. Very well, let us test our samurai, shall we? We shall test loyalty of course, for that is the highest of the virtues" he said pointing at the Ronin.

"A Ronin's loyalty is unconditional!" said the stunned Congressman.

"So I hear, but are you willing to put it to the test?" said the Scorpion.

"I am" said the Imperial Sun
"As am I" said the Loli
"Very well" said the Ronin.

"Then! We shall each call our Yojimbo into the room. Then we shall give him a command."

"What command will that be?" I asked

"I will demonstrate with my own yojimbo" the Scorpion replied. "Then each of you will follow suit. The yojimbo tho hesitates or questions his lords command will be disqualified. Are we in agreement?"

The others nodded and the yojimbo was brought in.

My heart beat faster; racing with the excitement of the game. But as his yojimbo was brought in the Scorpion's eyes caught mine as if saying Remember my lady, remember what happens here

"Shunsen" he said.

"My Lord?"

"Kill me"

"Yes, my lord" The yojimbo did not hesitate as his katana flashed and was out of its' saya before anyone could react. The Scorpion's body fell to the floor, blood spattered over the others in the room. The yojimbo dropped his sword to the ground, drew his wakizashi and immediately fell upon it.

With my wits coming back to me, all I could remember was the Scorpion's eyes, telling me to remember.

I can swim!
