Rocking the Boat
wingfield
Vote here and vote for me in the WTP party election!
Something hit me when I was writing my last article. All the argument in the world will only persuade some of the audience. To take the next step, you have to do something to get people’s attention.
So far, I have pointed out the evils of the UNITY/AFA lockdown of our political scene. Now is the time for action.
I have rejoined the WTP and nominated for party president.
Now come the howls of outrage!
I play eRepublik, not some meta-game smoke-filled room, where a select few decide who is going to run the show. So, primaries are out.
People say to keep your head down after making a point. Whatever for? Do you want your previous effort and energy wasted? That just makes it harder for the next person who wants to speak out.
People say that you should not break party rules? What rules? The only “rules” that count are the numbers.
So, I am not afraid to rock the boat. I am also no longer afraid to adopt the tactics of those who are attempting to suppress democracy. They tell people to move at their beck and call. “Check in to the ATO IRC before voting” … “hold your vote” … “switch to this party to support the ATO effort” … “Stop the AFA holding their party”. Yeah, right.
Somehow or other, these tactics don’t work. The obsession with an unpleasant minority just doesn’t seem to stop. It doesn’t stop those guys holding on to a party, even if they have to move when they are chased out of the one they are in. The math is that they have enough people to frustrate us forever.
Still, when someone from the ordinary eUS community stands up against the puppeteers in the other four top parties; when someone else suggests that people support a challenge to the existing order, the powerbrokers scream about rules and complain about anyone asking supporters to switch parties.
Anyway, I am now working to take one of the top 5 parties away from Unity. That is the only way to change things for the better. An independent party which operates for those who belong to it and treads its own path, just as I set out in my last article.
That is the way forward. I love creating the opportunity to debate. Then people can make their own choices. You cannot silence them forever.
Happily rocking the boat! This is only the beginning.

Change is necessary, so change will occur!
Good luck
Rocking the VOTE!
HOWLS OF OUTRAGE
You were never nominated. Get your vocabulary straight at the very least.
What you're doing - is wrong. You throw the parties decisions away. Not rules made by a few. You KNOW as does anybody in WTP - that the ENTIRE party is constantly messaged with on goings. EVERYTHING is voted for. If a person has an issue - they are more than welcome to ask it to go up for referendum.
But! You - because YOU don't like how the party is handled, ran, or whatever... You throw away what ALL the people LIKE - To get what you WANT. You ignore the time, effort, work that everyone put into the party.
Why? To attack the nation? Because you don't like how the party does things?
THEN MAKE YOUR OWN PARTY. Instead of trying to "win" a Top 5 party. Make your own. Fill it with people who agree with you. Make that party a Top 5 party. That is playing game mechanics AND staying clean.
Oh - and before you bring up my being in Denmark again... I have many friends still in WTP. Friends I've made on this game who matter to me. What you are doing - is attacking my friends. I do not care what country. I will say what I feel - where I feel - when I feel to protect my friends.
Wingfield decides what democracy is, not the people who vote in those primaries. Wingfield. Get it straight.
In eRep, a player nominates himself or herself.
As to the rest, you are entitled to your opinion.
wingfield... You stated that you like this party above the rest. But.. the things you like are built upon those you hate. The friendships that are built among the WTP people, the very fabric of WTP, were built goofing off on IRC and forum topics (some completely irrelevant to gameplay.) Not because the meta is a way to sneak around, but because the meta allows for an extra layer. When you decide to throw all that away.. to remove that as you imply. (Yes yes - you didn't state that.) You would take away all that you love about the party. Do you see the that?
Mazzy, I love you and you know it.
Wingfield, I actually like you too, even if I disagree with you at times, since you have the guts to dissent and dissent makes life interesting.
Now, on to business, I've been two-clicking for the past few days, but I've got to say something about this...
Mazzy, this game is made better by the metagame component created by those who wish to be active offsite, but eRep itself is much simpler than that. Our offsite communities and IRC fun support the existence of this game, but the game itself does not support the existence of our metagame. In the end, the metagame is nothing but smoke and mirrors, It's just a ploy by more active players to entertain themselves and distract everyone from the issues inherent in the game itself, but the point can't be stressed enough that the two are completely independent. Any idea that one has an effect on the other is an illusion held up by nothing more than agreed upon social norms and etiquette, That's what wingfield is violating here. It's nothing more than that. If the fact that not everyone respects etiquette or social norms bothers you that much then please for the sake of your own sanity, go have a drink and play another game, because we have a lot of those people here.
Wingfiel😛 You are playing by game mechanics. Good for you. More people should promote an in-game presence before concerning themselves with a metagame that adds yet another barrier to entry (getting people to actually play this game is hard enough).
That said, I wish you'd chosen to take a crap on a worse community with worse people. WTP has a number of dedicated people who work to try and have everyone's voice heard, It's actually the Top 5 party closest to your ideals, so it's a pity you're doing something that may alienate all those people
That said, the above is just my opinion, and it's not like it matters (at least not as much as yours, right?).
This was a very good post.
It's your opinion and it matters. As for the WTP, I like the party better than any of the others. I wouldn't try to lead a party I disliked, would I? Besides, this is the way to get things done. Nothing else has worked.
I'm flattered that you say my opinion matters, wingfield, but if we look at it logically, your actions don't really match that statement do they? I mean, I, as a WTP member who participates in the metagame by choice, nominated a party member for PP and voted in the PP primaries (the later of which requires no offsite registration, mind you). Given the fact that you chose to ignore that, there seems to be a definite implication there that my opinion doesn't matter as much, right? Or am I missing something?
Really, you seem to be implying that for my opinion to have weight equal to yours, I would have needed to disregard the primary and run for PP in-game also (which, according to game mechanics, I could have done, but I chose not to, mainly because I have friends in the WTP and I chose to respect the policies voted upon by active WTP members).
My concern now is that, should you win, you'll use your mechanics-endowed access to the PP buttons to support your own agenda rather than trying to sell your agenda directly to members of our party as you should, and that will alienate those who disagree with you and weaken the party overall.
Looking at that prospect, I almost wish I had been more active recently and just run. We could have had a fun in-game three-way and both laughed as Hale just shook his head, XD
You think that I might WIN???? seriously, now ...
You know I adore you - And you know partly why this upset me. Thing is - wingfield could be such a great asset. Instead he does THIS? I knew it was coming, but yet... everyone hoped for more. Seeing my friends disappointed... by someone I know can be a great person... well it IS upsetting. Yes - game mechanics are there. I know that. Everyone knows that. But that's not what the party stands for. It's not what any of the past/present people worked for. It's a slap in the face.
Much of what you said here, and in your own post is what I feel. Better worded than me. You're better with words than I am at times. 🙂 anyways - thank you for being you. You're great. Really.
Speaking of people I love,
In a party that allows for much of the vote to be held off-forum, Wingfield's actions are just wrong. If he truly was here for the party, he wouldn't jump in to take the PPship. On top of that, he wouldn't do so when the threat of PTO is always there. Vote splitting is why we have primaries.
Nonetheless, I've debated wingfield before, and I know it leads no where but trivial points and red herrings. He has a habit of not debating his points, only causing discourse for the sake of attention. So, if attention is his goal, it continue to be what he lacks.
However, if he stays around, I'll raise issue with him symbolically, then go back to ignoring him. For now though, I'm just going to second what you and Mazz said, since the best way for me to handle Wingfield atm is to ignore him.
Unless he wants to PM me. Little prompt there for ya, Wingfield.
♥ you too
"Protecting your friends" - exactly. Nothing to do with merit or democracy - at all.
She is protecting something she helped build. She would prob be screaming no matter who else was running. you by passed the rules.
Sigh... it's worthless debating with you. That's the sad part. So much wasted potential. You'd rather debate the tiniest of things than open your eyes wide and see BIG PICTURES.
" it's worthless debating with you."
You use this phrase quite often when actually debating with someone. I see wingfield's attitude through his pointing out that we all are entitled to our own opinion in this game.
Should we argue about that?
My opinion is that he makes quite some valid points and I have a feeling that his agenda is not the destruction of WTP.
"I love creating the opportunity to debate. "
But are so bad at actually debating that you become enraged when someone asks you to explain what your plan is. "Independent way forward." What does it mean? Just empty words. Nothing concrete, just a vague, meaningless call for "something different." And then, of course, comes the name calling.
Nice to hear from you, George!
It will be nice to hear from you when you present a plan. Very nice.
Have a nice day, George
Good luck!
I've read at least in two different articles/army manuals that it's advisable not to level up too quickly as a newbie. Yet at the same time this holds me back apparently, by the number of times I've tried to participate in these so called primaries, both times to be told that "I can't vote, try back next month."
So yes, I have to agree with RaccoonGoon in regards to two matters. 1 - metagame does provide another barrier to participating. 2 - I do think WTP is the party closest to Wingfield's ideals, so you can't blame him for running. It's a complement of sort, as opposed to the other numerous candidates who are running for not so complementary reasons, I wager.
Gaius, there's a rule allowing you to vote under lvl 24 if you're active and a clear not-multi. I'm guessing I messed up for you, but yeah. Um...I'll get on approving you xD
(I think I did this for you one month, but forgot to permanently log you on the tracker. Mistake on my part)
Well, I guess that's one way to remove my bone of contention. I guess my major complaint has shrunk down to minor inconvenience. -.-;
I'll settle for some guitar serenade we'll call it square.
Well in any case, I do hope Wingfield sticks around. No single individual is expected to be good at everything, that's what the party is for. If nothing else, his words are inspiring and that would add a diverse arsenal to an already formidable party.
And as a fellow rule breaker, he'd fit in with DMV3, who I believe also means well. It lends WTP an image of edge, much better than zombies or fuddy duddies.
So you manipulate "rules" to decide who can and cannot vote. Shamelessly admitting to your controlling tactics. Guess what? The only rule that counts is the one that says members of a party get a vote - in-game. At least I have forced people to stay in their own party to vote, even if it is against the imaginary threat from me.
The absolute hysterical noise that has come because someone dared to challenge your control over your personal party - yes, that is the way it sounds - shows that everything I have said over the past few weeks is absolutely true and that it is well overdue for you all to be swept aside.
Wingfield, you should really just PM me.
No, the party passed a bill on it. Passed with a super-majority, in fact.
And wingfield, you're right, why don't I let everyone vote? Well, Erep sadly doesn't recongnize multis very well, nor party membership. For example, I could join AMP and be an AMPer. Am I? No. But I get to influence their elections.
So yes, this is well within my party given powers ^_~
I do what I do for the party. Hell, I'm *not* running again. I had to win a primary to get in. Is it my personal party? No. Do I care about it? Yes. Saying that not wanting you to risk vote splitting is bad...? Writing be damned, your perception betrays your well written works.
I have a challenge for you, wingfield. Throughout this term, please critique every article I write, and every item within it. Hell, just reading it would be fine. Then, at the end of the term, I want you to tell me that I'm some power-maniac elitist.
That will be the true test of your perception, my friend.
hm, i guess this game is much more like real life than i imagined 🙂
lol before the usa government declared war on korea, 25% wanted the war, after the usa government said we should have a war, 75% of america wanted the war, so 50% of the american popluation irl does not make their own choices,
people who make up their own mind are called "free thinkers" and there are actually so few of them we had to have a term to describe someone who makes upo their own mind,
so you are a free thinker and i think this game would be much better if we forced less free thinkers to play 🙂 double clickers are equivalent to anyone who works a w-2 kind of job!
and so lets not complain about the masses being mindless lets embrance them and use their mindlessness to get ourselves elected for congress, and of course, anyone who thinks i am calling them mindless i am not, just do what i say and you will be happy 🙂 sell your q1 weps for 0.50

Key word of this article, Take.
I was so excited when I saw you had joined WTP. The chance to work directly with you was exciting, to pick your brain and actually get a plan formulated, rather than a statement of goals and "Just do it".
As I said in the party feed, my disappointment is a bitter pill to swallow.
I mourn that I won't be able to work with you to achieve our mutual goals.

Viarizi, Governor of the Great and Sovereign State of New Hampshire under the wise and benevolent rule of His Royal Highness Cookies Crisp Emperor of Amerifat, voted this article.
@New Hampshire we keep the ovens working.
you are sounding a lot like ajay mate. really
Didnt you hear we are clones!
Why take a party? Make your own. There are either a bunch of like minded people who agree with you or there aren't. Why do you think Ajay and his ilk didn't care about the AFA loss last month? Because they knew they could be back in the top 5 within a couple of hours. Its a wonder that the rest of the uneducated masses haven't figured that out but I guess it doesn't take a genius to serve drinks at Sonic and park cars.
Look.. The Sub-70's who love this game are easy to roll because they are emotionally invested. Keep above the fray and build your numbers by combating emotional dribble with intelligence.
The rule of law, doesn't originate from Party forums. It starts at eRepublik labs.

The people who had been "silenced" in the WTP amounts, to, as I type this, 9 votes. I'm sure they're grateful you finally gave them a voice, a chance to get out from under the groaning weight of oppression "the elites" have piled upon them. All those other voters must be part of the "elite oppressors," or else duped.
Democracy must be failing because people are, once again, rejecting Wingfield and his platform of unspecified "change."
Nice to hear from you again, George. Pity you are not showing more interest in your own party. Pity also that you appear to read but do not comprehend the program for change.
I can't comprehend what isn't there. Neither can the voters -- oops, I mean, neither can the oppressed victims of elitism.
WTP is a very open party. Nice people working hard to do good things. No shaking up needed in WTP.
Supported. Keep rocking their boat.
wingfield, you know how I feel about you, so I won't go into it.
That said, my only warning to you would be to base your main concerns on not damaging this party in any way, shape or form.
You may not be prepared for what is inside the pandoras box you open.
Great idea for the title of my next article! Thanks. This is one box well overdue for opening.
Fair enough, it won't be the first person to try and harm this party...won't be the last.
But by the time all is said and done, the example that you set forth for future attempts will be quite convincing.
You want a war, we can do this...for all intents and purposes you have already lost with your pompous and arrogant behavior.
After all the battles I have fought and won, you will be by far the smallest speed bump I have had in my times. Wise up and think before you do something stupid.
I think that you just lost the argument by trying to insult me.
Look at that...try to challenge them for party presidency and they declare a war against you. Ohhhh everyone is welcome, we accept everyone. Doesn't look like it. Here's someone proposing a fresh idea, a move away from the boring stuff of the last year or so, and he gets "if you want war, you'll get it." If you don't meet their expectations and toe their lines, you're as much of an enemy as RGR and the Serbs.
