Rock the Vote: A Brief Reminder

Day 796, 09:16 Published in USA USA by Cody Franklin

eRepublik, I feel it my duty to remind you about your civic responsibilities. As you well know, PPs are making their final choices as to who their congressional candidates will be. The congressional elections are just around the corner, and it's up to you to ensure that there is a high voter turnout. In many countries, especially the eUS, there is a notorious reputation for having a horrendous turnout when it comes to the ballot box. I realize that the congressional elections aren't exactly the most important event in America, but there are a couple of reasons a high turnout is important here.

1. Fairly elected candidates

A number of states (or other territories) are sadly devoid of a large population, making it easy for a small group of migrant voters to decide who the seat will go to. We need to see big numbers at the polls as a means of combating these state-to-state "coups d'etat".

2. Setting a precedent

This is fairly simple. If we can encourage (and produce) a high voter turnout during the congressional elections, the same trend will likely follow in the presidential elections, as well - this would provide further verification that the candidate chosen to run our country is the correct one. Please, set a good precedent for choosing a good president.

3. Player involvement

While not the most relevant issue, getting players involved in the political process may very well be a means of player retention. If younger players get interested in ePolitics, and actually care about who creeps into office, not only does this equate to a larger number of votes, but also to another player that we can keep - and, in the fierce debate over a solution to lack of retention, this seems like a pretty good start to me.

In summary...

I could probably go on for a while, and talk about the patriotic duty one has to get out and vote, but I won't. I know that most of you know better, and that many of you do go to the polls when the time comes; but, if at all possible, try and get some of the newer generation to do the same. This is a democracy, not an aristocracy. If you've seen the last Pirates of the Caribbean, you know that it took the whole crew to rock the boat - and it sure as hell takes the whole country to rock the vote.
