Return to Keiko Palace

Day 1,024, 19:34 Published in South Korea France by Yonai Keiko

Dearest Friends,

I have recently returned to Keiko Palace in the lovely Island of Jeju after an unfortunately prolonged stay in Chile. My good friend Alfagrem recently slipped into a coma and aside from the obvious fact that his illness has worried me quite a bit, I found myself without employment in South Korea. Thus I moved to Chile to explore some temporary working options. My entry into the nation was strangely easy, considering my status as a citizen of a supposedly Phoenix-friendly nation and Chile’s membership in the opposing Eden alliance. I simply accepted this as good chance and thought nothing of it. My employers were pleasant enough, even though the pay was made to seem much higher in the advertisements than it actually was. Anyways, the real trouble started when the South Korean Guard opened a new tank company. With employment opportunities open in the homeland, I attempted to return to South Korea. However, the Eden security forces detained me at the airport and proceeded to treat me like a common criminal! Can you imagine!? I was terrified, but I’d faced such abuse before in my travels to foreign nations and I knew that eventually they’d let me go.

After a full week, twice as long as any of my previous captivities, the Eden-back security forces let me go and I made a beeline back to South Korea, though I had to be careful to schedule my layovers in either neutral nations or Phoenix-friendly ones. I ended up travelling from Chile to Brasilia and onwards to Bogota, I passed through Cancun and then found a direct flight back to Jeju. The world is truly a dangerous place these days.

To make matters worse, I found Keiko Palace in a state of disarray when I returned! I’d asked an old friend of mine from the village near the Palace to steward the property and grounds in my absence. Unfortunately the dear old lady passed away of natural causes within days of my trip to Chile. Of course I received no word of this as all my international mail was blocked by the Chileans. Some teenagers got into the Palace and vandalized my trophy collection! Thankfully the only ones that weren’t protected were some Hard Worker trophies, which are a dime a dozen these days. How terrible would it have been if they’d gotten their hands on my precious Resistance Hero trophy! My poor maid tried to shoo them off the grounds and they threatened to do things so horrible I am unable to relay them in writing! Now she’s locked herself up in her room and refuses to let me in.

In the meantime my gardener got drunk and nearly stabbed someone in town with a pair of gardening shears, landing himself in jail for a few months. The cook’s wife caught him having an affair with another woman and proceeded to throw every breakable plate and glass at him and his mistress. All of my good china was destroyed! The only one to survive my absence unscathed is my manservant, JaFe. He was quite busy fishing to restock the Palace with sushi ingredients and rarely came above water in the Palace.

I’ve kept the worst news for last, though. A few days before my return from Chile, a freak thunderstorm came and battered Keiko Palace with rain and lightning! The rain was so heavy that it caused a mudslide from the nearby cliffs to fall upon Keiko Palace. I expect within three days, what parts of the Palace that are still standing will have fallen to pieces.

With all that’s been going on the Palace is filthy, the grounds have been overrun by weeds and tall grasses, I’ve lost most of my staff, and a good portion of the Palace is crumbling. Thus I’ve decided to completely redevelop the Palace and restore it to the grandeur of past generations. I’ve already mobilized local workers to salvage and store as much of the original Palace as possible. I’m in discussion with my favorite construction company, that has proven itself reliable, and I expect that we’ll finalize the reconstruction deal soon. I’ll be digging heavily into the Keiko Family Vault to fund this reconstruction and restoration project, but I expect it shall be well worth it.

I shall keep you informed as the work continues, and I would hope that you might find the same beauty in this magnificent island as my family has.

With much love,
Her Royal Majesty, Yonai Keiko, Queen of Korea and all its Royal Territories

Much credit goes to Mordiki for introducing this style of roleplaying to the media. I would highly suggest that you read and suscribe to his newspaper, The Red Mile, and write your own roelplaying pieces about your imaginary community in South Korea or abroad!
