Refugee Olympic Team

One of the saddest thing I have seen recently is Refugee Olympic Team attending Olympic games 2020, Tokyo.
With over 82 million displaced people worldwide, we are living in the worst refugee crisis since the Second World War.
This is the second time the refugee team will be competing. The first time was at the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2016. The team has almost tripled in size since 2016, from 10 to 29 members, and comprises athletes from 11 countries living and training in 13 host countries. This is also the first year that there is a Refugee Paralympic Team.
In 2015, 65 million people had been displaced from their homes as a result of conflict or natural disaster. In that year, more than one million refugees entered Europe after fleeing wars in the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia.

She is living in Aschaffenburg now. We are happy to have her. I'm sure, she will win a medal. Hopefully gold. 🙂
today she will fight for the bronze medal
I just saw that she lost in the semi-final round. There are so many competitions at the same time and then the different time zones. I have problems keeping up with all the news.
I'm keeping all fingers and toes crossed for her.
Regardless of the result, she is a champion
It's sad, yes.
At the same time those athlete are so proud and happy to be part of the Olympic family, to be able to follow their dreams. I'm glad my country is able to support them and to give them whatever they need to thrive. And to feel safe.

The Olympic refugee team has become, for the most part, a big scam.
Take a look at the list of countries they come from, most of them are present at these Olimpic games with their national teams and this "refugee team" is for many of them just a "ticket" for participation which, according to their sports results, they do not deserve.
Or the case of Kimia Alizadeh, in 2016 she participated in the Olympic Games for her home country, Iran, and even took a medal, and now she has German citizenship, but due to technical reasons she could not compete for them, so they placed her in the "Refugee Team"!
I don't know all the members of the Refugee team but it's a fact that all of them had to qualify for the team just like the athlets of the participating countries had to qualify for their teams.
There are many athletes who don't stand a chance at winning any medals, at least theoretically. But that's the spirit and the big charm of the Olympic Games. Anything can happen. And everybody is welcome to try.
As far as I know Kimia doesn't have our CS yet. But her starting for the refugee team doesn't diminish her performance in any way.
Most of them did not qualify, but were invited to fill in the number for the sake of "political correctness".
You have names in the article, so search the net and see when the last time, how many years ago, they had a somewhat valuable result or in their sports career in general...
Something valuable? Just listen to yourself. It's not enough they had to leave their homes? And that they are part of the Olympic Scholarships for Refugee Athletes programme?
'The athletes were selected from among the refugee athletes currently supported by the IOC through the Olympic Scholarships for Refugee Athletes programme. They will send a powerful message of solidarity and hope to the world this summer, bringing further awareness to the plight of over 80 million displaced people worldwide.'
You can find it here:

You don't get the Olympic message/idea/spirit.
What are you talking about?
First, what Olympic idea, message, spirit? 😉
Money, money, more money, a lot more money...
And we have gone too far from my superior position, many members of that "refugee" team
with their results, they did not even deserve to be in a regional competition and not at the Olympic Games.
I do feel sorry for you ... bye
Why so many People from Iran my friend? Economic migrants?
Political, cultural, social ,.... all.
