Referendum Results: Canada Says No!

Canadian Conduit - Presidential Address #18

The votes are in and Canadians have decided we will not be letting the Americans cop a feel of one of our tits. This is not a sign of disloyalty to our most important allies; despite this decision I am sure Canada and the USA will remain the strongest allies on the planet. They are our Bros and in a time where loyal allies are the most important resource in the game, we plan on doing everything in our power to get rid of the foreign invaders currently spoiling North American land.

This referendum marked a historic time in eCanada's evolution: it is the first time a massive decision has been officially relegated by the Country President to the people. I promised I would be obeying the will of the people in this matter, and of course I retain that promise. Hopefully this will open the doors for future votes on important issues. Additionally, I see these future votes using my referendum as a way to learn from our mistakes and successes with the vote. Ultimately, the government only exists to serve the people the way they would want, and a referendum (though slow and unwieldy) is the ultimate way of allowing the people to decide their own fate on important issues.

From the referendum officials Sperry and Stephanos Primus via the eCBC:

Our final tally is as follows:
104 (36.88😵 voted in favour of the referendum.
178 (63.12😵 voted against the referendum.
282 valid votes were cast in the referendum.

24 votes (7.8% of all 306 received) were voided, for the following reasons:
5 Organizations sent votes.
9 Citizens voted twice (sometimes a double-send, sometimes several hours apart).
6 non-Canadians voted.
4 votes were received after the 48-hour mark.
9 invalid votes were in favour of rental, 15 invalid votes were opposed to rental.

If the vote had been yes, the Ruskie invasion of the USA probably would have made any rental very difficult. Nonetheless, I feel this is a defining moment in citizen autonomy.

I'd like to thank Sperry and Stephanos for their tireless and thankless work counting votes and verifying citizenship. It was Sperry's idea to use the PM method, and I must admit it was superior to the method I had been considering. Without these two, nothing like this could have been possible.

Thank you to all citizens. The turnout was good, and I hope that this referendum will open the doors for similar initiatives in the future.

Sincerely,
