Normally I am a cheery person but this has rubbed me the wrong way.
Medal changes
Starting Day 2,610 (12th of January), Freedom Fighter, Mercenary and True Patriot medals will award you 1,000 Currency (instead of the current value of 5 Gold).
Based on our studies, these medals didn’t reach their initial goal: to help the progress of the new players. More than this, they had a negative impact on the economic balance of the game, and with this change we aim to solve some of these issues.
We wanted to make this announcement early, so everyone will have plenty of time to prepare for this change, if needed.
Who is working for eRep and continues to think abusing the very people keeping you afloat is the best course of action? What "goals" were not met? I can give you at least 15+ reasons without a break and tell you why the majority of new players don't continue playing after the first week.
You must realize that as humans who play this game, we are far from retarded and don't appreciate the crap you guys continue throwing at us. The only reason you guys have gone this route is to cut off additional sources of gold for players to earn. What's next CC for Congress Members, or how about CC for HW & SS medals?
I have heard so many thoughts, idea's and rumors about why the executives are trying to "kill" the game but it still boggles my mind as to why eRepublik is going down the path you guys have set it on? Plus if not many care then why create the holding company Erepublik Labs? You would think if you named the entire company after a product it would be one that the vast majority of people like.
To be honest the only reason I am still playing is due to the people I interact with. Many of us have agreed to stay together once eRep fails and that just goes to show you that a community is stronger then a game with no direction.
I don't want eRepublik to fail but my only question is why don't you try and make your customers satisfied? That's the point of business right?
So do me a favor and get your very large heads out of your hind end and do as you should! Listen to your CUSTOMERS and give us some real sense that you value us. Without us you have nothing, and without our content guess what ...

To be honest, there's too much gold in the game, which helps destroy the economy--one of many problems, not the only one, mind. I wouldn't mind if all medals switched to CC, really.
One of the reasons I like Easy Company Militia is they pay CC rather than product for supplies....
Agreed. It's a net plus for MU's. Also, a net plus for those who sustain heavy fighting with lots of companies, paying that work tax.
I would disagree as the amount of gold in game is less than it was in 08 & 09 but your right it is just one of the factors although a very small aspect when compared to the devaluing of the game for a very blatant money grab on the part of plato.

Even with gold at a recent high of 244 CC per gold, that is still 4.10 gold for each medal...sorry don't see the problem here.

True, but since the True Patriot is the only one I ever won and I am probably about to win my last one soon; I am not losing anything...neither is a new citizen who will never see one anyway....

How is that not losing anything? Where you would have normally received 5 gold, you are instead receiving the cc equivalent of 4.1. That's a loss for the new player, not a gain.
Only if you can earn such medals.
I have won only True Patriot Medals.
The Freedom Fighter and Mercenary medals were out of reach for me and I am sure a new citizen will not able to reach one either, so again I am not losing anything -nor is a new citizen.
You are more than capable of earning those medals, and so are new players. Regardless of your past habits, any of these medals you earn after the change, including the TP medals that you have earned before and will eventually earn again, will be worth less than they would have before. I don't know how much better I can put this into crayola for you...the value under the change is less than the value now. It's that simple.
You /will/ earn a TP medal again in the future and it /will/ be a loss for you due to this change.
Okay, just so you understand; that lose to me is insignificant. You're correct I am more than capable of earning those medals, for me it is a personal choice not to seek those medals; for a newborn citizen it will have always been the way it is...so...no lose to them either.
Not knowing the difference doesn't change the fact that the change is /less/ helpful to new players, not more.
I've only been playing for a month and a half and I've won the True Patriot, so it is possible.
You do know that the frequency of TPs for new players is higher than yours right CHS? You need to check with your boss, James, before posting.
I agree in the aspect that this will only apply to players that go for these medals. However, how soon will it be before they start devaluing the medals that the rest of us actually get. This sets a bad precedent.
Are you saying if this were to happen to say the Congressional Medal, that some citizens would no longer seek those medals?
New citizens being born will never know the difference, it is only the older citizens that will feel the lose; for some of them it will be a drop in the bucket though....
The point is that they would have gotten more under the old system. They will have less money in hand than they would have if the change had not been made. 22.5% is not a drop in the bucket, Franklin.
Would that not depend on the price of gold, if gold is 200 CC it is the same thing or in the case of less than 200cc it is better....
It would, but this will also not likely change that exchange rate.
I am sorry FS I have to disagree with you, true it is insignificant but it really is the principle of it. While it's nice to have the lower cost of gold it still has been at a higher level for a long time and as you know the price of gold can easily change in a moments notice.
For us older players this might is a good update - we need currency for guns, salaries etc and most of cc is got by converting gold for cc (since economy sucks).
This also includes risks: the amount of printed cc will increase dramastically after a few months if they don't implement massive currency drains. I'm able to farm a medal or two in a day which would mean 15k to 30k in a month. And this increases the price of items and gold.
It isn'thard to see where this might end up. Lets hope this update doesn't end up where game was a few years ago but currently this looks as a positive update.
I am sorry CBS but I disagree that it is a good thing. It to me is not about value or anything economical it to me is a precedent that may make them think it is ok to convert all medals to CC which would make it that much harder to earn Gold to just BH and CH.
But if the "goal" is to help new players, then the new players need gold for training ground upgrades, industries to make money, or anything else. I've been playing for a while, and I have fully upgraded training facilities and rocket factories and the like, but my gold is always hovering. Training contract costs 53 gold. You earn back less than 45 as aresult of training. Now, two of the other ways for getting the gold for that contract are gone. The currency I'm trading is worth half the cost of the gold I was earning, and then I'm out currency that I'd use to buy guns and food. Completely a way to have them try to get more players to buy gold packs. Here's a random thought....if gold packs weren't so stupidly overpriced in real life, maybe more people would buy them? It's already ridiculous to get a war stash or combat stash for $9 Euro. The economy of this game needs to be completely overhauled anyway, it's constantly too stagnant....

The new player BS is all smokescreen. This is just another step towards the admin's goal of eliminating all means of accumulating gold other than paying cash for it.
Also, keep in mind that the value of CC fluctuates, do you think that the CC awarded will follow those fluctuations? A fixed amount of gold will always buy the same amount of EBs or Companys or upgrades. This in NO WAY benefits any player, whether old or new.
If they really wanted to help new players, they'd revise the beginner missions and eliminate the ones that require building new companies and production.
Agreed, just like not everyone wants to fight, some don't want to build companies. Honestly I think best course of action is to create class missions.

I think of it as a retention issue although I am not sure why this change has gotten under his skin. In the grand scheme of things it is small.
There is always complaints because eRep Labs is lead by an Idiot ... second I will complain as much as I want you don't want to see it go elsewhere and finally Rahl it's a big picture issue not a small issue. Cutting out Free Gold for Hardwork is Acceptable to you?
The best part about being a new player is how everyone keeps talking about how this game is dying and the devs are actively trying to kill it.

I wouldn't be too worried, the oldf_gs have been saying that since I joined the first time 4 years ago. No arguing that the game has gone downhill a lot though, and apparently it was much better before I started...
I personally predict the end will come within 6 months to a year.

watch for this President to stimulate the economy and general interest with a new direct War.
look for the underlying message in articles that proclaim that the sky is falling-- it's a call to action, not just idle bitching.
look at the huge increase in media activity-- bitching or not, it's a lot more media than just a month ago.
