Political Environment Polling Results Released

Day 631, 11:02 Published in USA USA by Robert Bayer
Methodology (Sort of)
I gathered 124 responses to the poll via promoting the poll in the eUS forums, shouts, and others promoting the poll via shouts. Likely, this poll will show a small bias towards the opinions of those most active in the game, rather than those players who are less active (popularly known as "two-clickers"). Nonetheless, the poll should be more or less reliable. Using the question, "Who did you vote for you in the last election?" as a means of measuring the accuracy of the poll, the results were as follows (the numbers in parentheses indicate the distance from the actual election results):

Emerick: 55% (+14😵
Harrison Richardson: 20% (-9😵
Joshua Hoss: 17% (+2😵
Ajay Bruno: 4% (-3😵
Other: 5% (+2😵

As you can see, there was a disproprtionate number of supporters of President Emerick voting in this poll. The slight drop in support for President Richardson can likely be accounted for by USWP's support amongst so-called "two-clickers".

The Results
* A plurality of citizens (46😵 said that they had a "good" or "very good" opinion of former President Harrison Richardson, compared to 30% who had a "neutral" opinion and 24% who had a "bad" or "very bad" opinion of him. Furthermore, only 29% of respondents said that the nation's military failures could be blamed on the Richardson administration (70% either "disagreed" or "strongly disagreed").

So why did he lose re-election? It might have been the revelation that he had opened up negotiations with PEACE: 50% of respondents said that they "strongly disagreed" with the idea that the eUS should sign a treaty with PEACE, with 82% total saying either "disagree" or "strongly disagree". Additionally, the USWP has seen declining popularity in recent months -- especially among active players. The USWP came in as the third least popular party: though 20% of voters said that the endorsement of the USWP would make them more likely to vote for a candidate, 26% said that the endorsement would make them less likely to vote for that candidate. When asked their impression of the USWP, 36% of respondents said that they had a "bad" or "very bad" impression of the party, compared to only 22% who said they had a "good" or "very good" impression of the party.

Lastly, there is the fact that now-President Emerick is somewhat more popular. Whereas 24% of voters said that they had some sort of negative opinion of former President Richardson, only 9% say they have a negative impression of President Emerick. Overall, 62% of voters say they have a positive perception of Emerick.

* The recent and quick growth of the Conservative Victory Party is baffling in light of the results of this poll. A majority of respondents said that they had a "very bad" impression of the ConVicts (52😵, with another 11% saying that they had a "bad" impression. Comparatively, only 9% said that they had either a "good" or "very good" impression. This leaves the ConVict Party as by far the most disliked Party in the eUS. By taking the percentage of those with a positive impression of the party and subtracting the percentage of those with a negative impression of the party, the ConVicts have a net -64% approval rating.

Ironically, likely the second-least popular party in the eUS is the Conservative Party -- 48% of respondents said that they had either a "bad" or "very bad" impression of it, with only 19% having a favorable opinion. The CvP has a net -29% approval rating.

However, the fact that these two parties are not particularly liked is strange, considering how much more, comparatively, the two other sixth parties included in the poll are like😛 27% of respondents said that they have a favorable opinion of the Socialist Freedom Party (net +7% approval) and 30% have a favorable opinion of the Federalist Party (net +4% approval).

The net approval ratings for all of the parties, in order of popularity, are as follows:
UIP: +16% (45% neutral)
Libs: +10% (43% neutral)
SFP: +7% (52% neutral)
Feds: +4% (44% neutral)
AAP: -2% (56% neutral)
USWP:-14% (42% neutral)
CvP: -29% (33% neutral)
ConVict:-54% (28% neutral)

eAmerica On the Issues
The poll also questioned respondents on a few issues, as well as their perceptions regarding the fairness of gameplay.

Respondents said that they were most concerned about "the eUS being wiped off the map" (48😵. Other popular responses were "the eUS surrendering" (25😵 and "our allies being wiped off the map" (17😵. A number of respondents (7😵 wrote in a response expressing concern for all three of the previously stated options. Only 1% said they were concerned about "e-same-sex marriage/e-abortion" (presumably from the ConVict Party), and 2% said they were most concerned about being fired.

Since the last Political Environment Poll in March, support has climbed for the use of nationalized industry from 58% (March) to 86% (August). This is likely the result of the lack of available and cheap weapons on the market.

A large majority (59😵 said that they also agreed with the idea that "Congress should keep low VATs during wartime" -- something which Congress has not done, thus far.

On questions of gameplay, eUS citizens overwhelmingly felt that the gameplay has thusfar been unfair: 63% of respondents agreed with the statement, "The admins are biased in favor of PEACE"; 81% agreed with the statement, "PEACE cheats".

Despite these sentiments, however, 80% of respondents strongly disagreed with the statement, "the eUS might as well give up".
