Hello everyone. I may be out of the country, but I'm not gone. Thought I'd brighten everyone's day by adding these pictures you may not of seen of the Russian Empire 100 years ago taken by Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky. After finding these, he is now my favorite photographer. Hope this alleviates the stress of politics, enjoy:
(These are Greek women in Georgia)
And finally, the photographer himself:
Hope you enjoyed them, I did.

I apologize that not all of the photos are showing up, some of them just say obrazek. I don't know why...

How are they in color?
o_O
They had color photos back then. It was new technology. He was commissioned by the Tsar to take photos all over Russia as documentation.
awesome
They had color photography back in 1909?
You learn something new every day...
Color photos were not common but the technology existed. I believe Gorsky took the same photo 3 times with different filters and combined them. Truly amazing. Thanks Anthonios.
You're correct, he had to take the photo with red, green a blue filters. When combined, they yielded the color photo. Notice when mistakes were made(like in the greek women one) there will be a "ghosting" effect where the colors won't be right in certain areas(girl in the center-left).
the url could be to long, try to upload it elsewhere or tiny url them and then put in image tags
no, it's not that, the url is shorter than the others... I'll switch some out.

+1 sub
Voted. Well I didn't know about color photography so many years ago, but I noticed the color mismatches on certain things that moved and filters was what I thought. Don't know who's invention that was, but it was truly innovative!
Thank you!
