Phoenix's neglect of its smaller members, EDEN's missed opportunity

Day 782, 07:15 Published in Canada Switzerland by HuCard

Last night, the Saarland was conquered by Poland and thus all of Germany was devoured by the Polish empire (I believe to refer to it as such is appropriate by now). While I personally resent the invasion despite its strategic advantages, it also showed again how little Phoenix's leadership and especially Hungary cares for its smaller allies.

Slovenia was occupied by Croatia a while ago, apparently without much resistance. It still has not yet reappeared on the map, and despite Hungary bordering its very occupied regions it does not seem as though they are going to lift as much as a finger; although at the sane time they apparently have the muse to fight an offensive war against Romania.

Likewise, Germany was also taken swiftly and easily by Poland. Especially the battle of the Saarland saw minuscule Hungarian involvement, and their efforts were doubled by that of the Serbians. Alas it was not enough. But in the many battles which took place beforehand the Germans did not receive much aid in defending their country, and much less could they hope for an organised campaign by Phoenix to free their territories. The only direct help they received was from the small United Netherlands, who had to pay for their courage with the loss of Wallonia.

Which, in turn, they were forced to defend largely by themselves as well (although especially Russia and the UK did tank a lot, in all respect). The region still belongs to Spain today, ultimately depriving the UNL of every Belgian region. The other two rest in the safety of the United Kingdom - the only Phoenix state who bothered to help them liberate them from the Romanian The Group, under whose dictatorship they remained for a fair two months. Had the Britons not intertwined out of sympathy for their neighbours, despite Phoenix's military might it would not be unlikely for Flanders and Brussels to still be oppressed.

What has Phoenix's leadership been up to in the meantime? Aside from protecting their High Iron colonies in Asia and trying to win back Liaoning, something which is still strategically reasonable and wise to prioritise, they have been waging relatively pointless wars of aggression against a few EDEN states, namely Romania and Greece. Hungary has been grabbing and losing a few regions of Romania since the latter's failed attempt to pass through both Turkey and Iran, and Turkey is ever continuing its petty skirmishes with Israel and Greece, now with the support of its allies.
The same allies who could be trying to liberate Germany, Slovenia, or the UNL, and did few to stop their invasions. Latvia and Estonia signed MPPs with Germany, and it generally seems that the defence of the small members of Phoenix is left to themselves and the others of their kind, while the great powers rather occupy themselves with their conquests (of course expecting the active support of their periphery).

Now you might ask yourself, why do these neglected minions not leave their alliance? Aside from friendships between a few members such as UK-UNL, I would definitely say that this is the fault of EDEN. In Phoenix they may be exposed to our conquests and even fall prey to them, but at least have the tiniest bit of security and the hope that a courageous or empathic ally will lend them a hand or eventually liberate them. But if they were neutral they could count even less on such aid. Aid which would be needed seeing EDEN's lack of respect for the sovereignty of neutral countries, as they have showcased in Bulgaria, France, Japan, and plenty of other times. If we stopped acting like rampart boars, perhaps we could actually accomplish a weakening of Phoenix.

EDEN would deserve a bit of credit for actually caring for its members, as could also be seen in the Brazilian war against Australia in which the latter was not let down despite EDEN's Asian campaign having been at its climax. However at the same time, while Phoenix's priorities are cruel and (highly successfully!) serve but its masters, EDEN's are too unfocused. Heilongjiang remains Hungarian while Poland and Spain play war all over Europe, and Romania and Greece are too busy defending themselves against the MPPs they foolishly activated earlier.

Lastly, even Phoenix's ruthless strategy has its flaws. I fail to understand how Hungary could give greater importance to a futile invasion of Romania not only while Heilongjiang was under attack and Liaoning waits to be reconquered, but also while Poland's population was exploding and seizing Germany's three high grain regions one by one. Would it not make sense to try everything to starve the babies to death or disinterest by depriving them of food resources?
