Phoenix broke?

Anybody who has in the last two months been daring enough to fish around in the international media will know that there is a nearly everlasting battle between Phoenix and Eden forces going on. This has taken on many forms, the most recent of these being the Croatian wars. While these battles have been of benefit to almost everybody, especially us as it has provided us with battles accessible from home, these wars do cost a lot of money. And by a lot of money, I mean a lot of fricking money. What the shear majority of eRepublik players would consider a fortune that could last you a lifetime, is often spent in a matter of minutes towards the end of battles. Between weapons, moving tickets, wellness packs, gifting and the absolutely essential tanking, the cost for just one major battle can spiral upwards into the tens of thousands (of Gold that is).

It looks like this massive cost is finally beginning to take its toll on one alliance. Over the past few days, numerous PHX countries have published articles in their respective media looking for generous donations for the alliance. The most close to home of these is the UK Prime Minister Jamesw's article. In this article, the PM asks for a whopping 2500 Gold, or 1 gold to be donated by every single active person within the United Kingdom. A quick browse through the media of Phoenix countries will see similar pleas elsewhere.

So what does this mean for eRepublik as a whole and for eIreland. From a national perspective, this recent development means nothing to us eIrelanders, if anything it gives us a greater sense of security that our British neighbours will not be invading any time soon (depending on your point of view that is). It may also mean a downturn in the amount of wars being waged in the eRepublik world. While an unlikely measure due to the fact that war is the major if not only stimulus for economies within eRepublik, down the road this kind of spending could lead to war and battles as a whole requiring more thought and consideration before taking place.

While there have been no similar pleas from Eden, the Brolliance or the smaller alliances, we could see similar incentives within the next month. Anybody who is interested in aiding Phoenix at this time can donate here. Even if you are not a supporter of Phoenix, and considering this is eIreland you are most likely not, I still would consider donating. Not to aid our so called "enemies", but to ensure that the steady stream of war that we have all become so accustomed to is continued. Regardless of who you support, we can all agree that this is a thing that we all want and quite frankly, need. If you think the overproduction problem is bad now, imagine the backlog of weapons should war become abundant, not to mention that the hard work put in to reforming the IDF would become as a consequence, redundant. So do not simply dismiss this article as advocating Phoenix, but merely advocating war as a whole within the game.

While not asking for donations as such, the Canadian Government has also begun to offer war bonds here. While it isn't clear whether this is scheme is exclusive to Canadian citizens or not, it is always worth a try. The Canadians are trying to raise 1,000 Gold for their war effort and are offering 1G bonds. After 30 days, you will be able to claim 38 CAD (1.18 Gold).
