Party Presidencies and Parliament

Day 1,237, 09:21 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Sir Humphrey Appleby
Hey eUK (in general) o/

Let me just get me ladder.

A lot of stuff has happened over the past few weeks which have significantly changed the environment of the country; from developing wars and diplomatic lines, as well as various reforms and updates on-going in both circles of congress and government. Some of these changes will be completely new to us, as we continue to develop and understand the changing role of congress and individual parties as productive entities of our eSociety. Also, the House of Lords bill got rejected again.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with our offsite forums will be happy to hear that our term so far has seen a higher legislative activity than the last two congressional terms combined; with more changes in the pipeline including the ‘Parliamentary Budget Act’ on its way to the Voting Hall tomorrow afternoon. If passed, Parliament will for the first time have significant input over how our taxes and other national incomes are spent; giving us a great boost to our role in holding executive government to account. Be sure to keep an eye on the Public Discussion forum for upcoming proposals.

Another reform I was hoping to achieve whilst sitting as a Party President was to help parliamentary candidates get trained up ready for parliament before have to begin their term. Rogue proposals and unauthorised citizenship requests have been a slight issue this month, showing that simply leaving MPs to be trained by their individual parties isn’t working on its own. After the Party Presidential elections, I will be talking to the new Party leaders and discuss ways of getting the relevant experience and information to Congressional candidates. For the moment though, I’ve put together a quick thread for parliamentary candidates to have a read at; explaining briefly some of the work you’d be doing as an MP. More details on this Parliamentary work-experience programme should be coming out later 😛.

I would be very happy to speak to Party Presidential candidates from any party to catch me either on the forums or IRC, to start setting up this programme. Hopefully we can make sure that we don’t spend the first few days of the congressional term having to sort ourselves out 😁.

Anything is possible…

Yours,

Sir Humphrey Appleby MP, Speaker of the House of Commons
