Part 4: A Lifetime Full of Tangent

Day 268, 11:08 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Dishmcds

"We digress a bit today.

Today, we are going to talk about our own lifetime," he began. He looked over the crowd, and there must have been thousands, looking at him at the podium. Had his friends and family not been there supporting him, he might have felt that wave of hesitation that made the hair on his neck stand tall.

"Today, we are going to take a look inside at what is and will be necessary for us, as citizens of the United Kingdom, to take more control over our own lives. You can see it in every small market and store here in the Isle, as we wonder around without swagger. We have lost our ability to be confident. Not our confidence in our Government or whatever group happens to be "in power" at the moment, but the confidence in our own ability to choose. We need to return to the days when the right thing was always what we did, rather than the easiest thing."

He felt a small tug at his leg. It was his aura, his motivation. As he picked his little daughter up and held her in his arms, he smiled and looked back at the crowd.

"This is what I fight for. I fight for the future of my children. Are we going to look into a future when there is no such thing as personal success? Are we going to look at avenues that will restrict the success to the State and leave little to no room for success from a personal point. I for one know that when my seed comes of age, I intend on it being a world that she can prosper in, without having to leave overseas to achieve it."

He sat her back down in the crowd, and returned to his speech.

"As citizens, we need to....." he paused. He then crumpled up the paper in front of him, and threw it down into the crowd.

"I've re-written this a dozen times. Each time I feel it's better than before, but the simple truth is that as citizens we simply need to be and act responsibly to our own wellbeing. We need to make our own choices, we need to be responsible for our own mistakes, and we need to be allowed to make them. How else are we going to learn, otherwise? We need to take the responsibility to be more active. Yes, we need to contribute to all aspects, including our Press, our military, our Congress, and our Government. If we have an idea, we need to take our own initiative to propose it, and more to the point, we need to be allowed to.

We're all here because we want to see ownership in our country. Our Government would like nothing more than that, and it would give us more freedoms to do as we chose to do. We have to earn it, and we shall. Behind us, in the UKRP, you shall see that leadership. Katie has and will stand up for our members. We have mentors and groups of people dedicated to getting new citizens involved. We have what you desire.

And if there's ever a question you have, an idea you'd like to try, or if you'd simply like to chat, we are now turning my olde gift shoppe into headquarters for the new citizens and anyone alike. If you need help, find me."

With that, he turned and walked away from the podium to cheers. He rounded up his family, and turned to walk away. The demonstration went rather smoothly, much smoother than he thought it would. He knew that his message would be heard. For the first time in a long time, he felt like his voice mattered again.

There is a new section of the Forum entitled "News. In it, you can post threads for your newspaper, and each time you write an article you simply need to post a link and either the first couple of paragraphs (which is what I do since I tend to run on) or a summary of the article.

We've done this to generate activity for those of us who write often but seemed to get bumped due to articles that are unimportant and/or spam. It's easier to organize, and if you run across a paper that you like, such as the Oxford Times (which has done well so far), you can subscribe, like I have and some others.

Thanks
