Parliamentary Update

Day 720, 03:56 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by fsx121

Hello everyone,

an update on the current political situation from my view, as a Member of Congress (or House of Commons, as we prefer to call it since that's what our political tradition dictates) - it's half-term soon.

One major change right at the beginning of the term, which affect us all, was the move from a VAT to Income Taxation (tax is a major government income). Although, I still think a lower tax is possible in more areas (especially weapons), this has allowed not to tax the "use" (or consumption as the economist like to call it), but the profit taking - I fully supported this change, but still would like to go a bit further, which will not be easy with current Left-orientated country administration.

Due to the change of the way the Mutual Protection Pacts (MPPs) are going to be charged between countries (in game change from the erepublik), a lot of MPPs have been put forward in last couple of weeks. This won't be the case any more, 3 MPPs per country will be the norm. Extensive negotiations are expected, but due to the limitation, a selection of the best allies must be made.

While not being the same, the military is closely tied with foreign policy - I have voiced many times that I'm not happy with the abolishment of Royal Guard, I still think a low rank military organisation is needed, for soldiers not ready to travel - I will be following this very closely. A military success worth mentioning, after strategic withdrawal from Mydjilland, Nordjylland - another Danish region, has been taken from Swedes, putting another hurdle on their long dream of North-ish Empire (or whatever they want to call it). No change has been made on our stand, we will support our PEACE allies, sticking to our commitments.

The discussion of 5 star hospitals for regions without them are still ongoing, although current administration has no interest on perusing these, on financial grounds mostly, although some strategic points have been mentioned. Even if the government sees this as a closed case - I don't.

Also some minor, or day to day items were popped on the House of Commons Agenda (for example if you ever wondered why we donate the country's money to Bank of England - it is to minimise the loss in case of a region gets taken).

I don't think I will be giving out a secret, when I tell you that UKRP is working on these and other subjects, in order to convert them into policies for next elections. Myself and the UKRP, have clear ideas of how the eUK should be run, and we don't want any of our members and supporters feel cheated, as it often happens with other parties - our policies are for everyone to see.

If you want to know more and maybe take part in the discussion, you can do it here: http://forums.erepublik.co.uk .

Feel free to drop me a message, whenever you agree or disagree with any of my opinions.
