Our Last Stand

Day 480, 18:54 Published in USA USA by Muljo Gobet

I was one of the few people to survive the battle in the Gulf. I can’t really recall what happened due to the golf ball sized bump on my head.. All I can tell you is, I woke up surrounded by dead bodies and I managed to stumble my way all the way back to base camp. I remember being so happy to have made it, but the feeling didn’t last long. When I was in the hospital, getting my wounds patched up, I received a letter saying my brother died in a last ditch effort to gain extra time for our retreating forces in the Southeast. To say the least, I was crushed.

I awoke to the sound of alarms blaring. We’re under attack. Very quickly, I put my uniform on. I rushed to grab a weapon, meanwhile trying not to fall flat on my face from the massive pounding in my head. When I stepped outside I found out it was nighttime. I had no clue where the main body of the army was. Looked like everyone else knew though. The light shining from the moon allowed me to see the outline of hundreds of troops slowly making their way to the tree line. It reminded me of an unlucky animal stepping into an ant mound, while the angry ants swarmed around the intruder to take their revenge. In fact, I bet that’s what most of the men and women were feeling. Time to give some revenge for our fallen countrymen.

Emerging from the other side of the woods, I saw a massive army. I don’t know who’s in charge here but things were different. This army had plenty of ammo, this army was dug in, and I mean dug in. This army looked like it was itchin to fight. This army was polar opposite from the one I was in during the Gulf, and I mean that in a good way. I found an open position in the trench, jumped in, and waited.

I didn’t have to wait long. The red flares that were shot up into the sky showed the enemy making their way towards us. I recognized the fact that this wasn’t the same army I faced before. This one was bigger, stronger, and down right intimidating. No matter. Unfortunately for them, we had something to prove. This battle isn’t going to go down the same way as before. They’re about to pay for all the lives they took. I'm going to make sure of that. I aimed my gun, cocked the hammer, and thought one thing. Bring it on.
