Operation Taco Bell, or Burnt Burrito? Lessons from Mexico
Aren Perry
We were so very, very close to total victory. The sweet taste of the entirety of Mexico in our hands was so close I felt it. Unfortunate for us, PEACE felt it was too much to let us run through Mexico without some serious intervention from their tanks. Now, it is very possible that Mexico will be able with their MPP's to attack and regain the territories that they have lost. Though the campaign has not been decided, but it was halted in a decisive moment and we will probably be pushed back by the forces of 8 combined nations.
Even with this current defeat that we just recently suffered, I feel like this campaign has been full of nothing but WIN . We have gained so much through this campaign while giving so little to the other side. Though it is not over yet, I do not think it is too early to say, what have we learned/gained from Mexico?
Experience
I personally have gone from private to lieutenant within this campaign. I effectively doubled the amount of damage that I can do. I know that across the board this campaign has provided health and much needed war experience points. We did this while giving not nearly as many to the other side of the ball park, making this war so full of win. Now I feel like we are a much stronger nation. The greatness of our experience boost cannot be overstated.
Damage done
Though I suspected we could through some educated guesses, it was great to see the common masses of the US making over 100k wall practically by ourselves. It should let them know that if they want to mess with us, they will have to think twice more than they already had to before. OORAH!
Weapons
A “hole” in our market in terms of iron and guns definitely surfaced. Through constant fighting for days, we proved that our market cannot deal with the high demand making gun prices double. So many people bare fisted it when prices when to 20 USD for a Q1 gun, and so did I. This shows the need for the subsidized weapons companies for the government to fund our main military force as well as more private companies in both sectors to provide more in times of war.
On the other hand, with the stretch in the market, more iron/weapon companies were created and existing ones made stronger. Thus next time we will be better prepared to handle the stress on the market. It’s a hole that we are now more keenly aware of than before. Our market was set to handle peace time needs, now we need to figure out how to support war.
Planning and Purpose
The war as far as I’m aware of was not very well planned in advance. This led to the problems with Atlantis and forewarning (and fees), and also as to what we were after. Originally it was just a simple way to get some territories for making RW’s with. It turned into a full scale assault, but when exactly did that occur? Though there is nothing wrong with it in my book, the exact purpose of the war was obscure. While I do not mind secrets of war planning to be held within the top government, I do not think this was the case here; it was just a lack of intentional planning.
This also created the problem we now face with Southeast Mexico. Had we thought about it longer, we would have attacked that area, dead last and by itself to avoid such a confrontation with Portugal at the same time as our confrontations with Mexico.
On a related note, recently we figured out the hard way that the eUSA congress is too big to not leak things and cannot be trusted with some items. How we will deal with this has not yet been decided, but something must happen to ensure that what we do will be a surprise and not known to the entire world, especially PEACE.
Taxes
The amount of money that we needed to support this war shows the need that we have for the taxes of the current rate. There is no way we could support this war otherwise. And, mind you, this was a generally light war for an aggressive war due to a very small need for tanking due to the small size of Mexico. Mind also, it is still not over.
I conclude by saying what I began with; this campaign is full of win no matter what. Even if we lose all the regions of Mexico, the experience gained and things learned will provide a wonderful resource for us in the future. We ran into today a sobering lesson that there are those out there than can challenge us, but now, they realize just how much of a serious challenge we are to them.

Voted nice article. I think next time are top Gov. Officals should think out there plan of attack insted of going head on into a war.
I think it started out organized, but in the last two offensives we saw a breakdown of communication and a "kekekekeke zerg rush" mentality.

Nice article. I agree completely with your assessment.
I totally agree with you. I know people are upset right now because we were not able to finish the job, but we had a good war. We gained valuable experience and a note to put in a future battle plan. Next time we'll attack around the border to Porty so that they cannot invade until we've won.
I would also like to make a further suggestion. In order to comprimise for our high demand in guns, we should lower the import taxes for weapons to 0%. Simple fix for a big problem.
And simple is sometimes best.
the 1% would help-but it's 1 cent on the dollar-it wouldn't be enough to take down a deficit of twice the price. It's being dependent on foreigners that killed us, I think, but keep on thinking! It would help some-but that is also valuable income for the gov (1% import) at small cost to the companies.

We should of just stopped after the first three.
One of the most comprehensive articles on this topic that I've read thus far. Great job. Voted and subscribed.
"Had we thought about it longer, we would have attacked that area, dead last and by itself to avoid such a confrontation with Portugal at the same time as our confrontations with Mexico."
I think the government should have to answer this question, at the very least.
"We should of just stopped after the first three."
OMG...I agree with DF?
/me looks up to check if the sky is falling.
@rev: if you undermine our weapons industry by lowering imports too much, then you eliminate our ability to make weapons
"I effectively doubled the amount of damage that I can do. "
No you didn't, you gained 50% extra damage from Private to Lieutenant.

http://i40.tinypic.com/11w5zid.jpg , LOL.
@T, some of the damage that I gained was from my training, though you're right it isn't quite doubled, though I went from making about 28 damage to 40.
It's still not over. And we are playing defense right now.
1) I totally agree with you about the weapons situation. The unfortunate thing is that about halfway through, the NG was fighting barehanded. So we were gaining damage points and rank at a much slower rate than our opponents, most of whom were armed.
We need some state run weapons and iron companies (especially iron, since we have no high iron regions). I might also suggest treasury "donations" to subsidize private companies who keep their weapons prices low during wartime.
2) It's easy to Monday morning quarterback, and I can't say I would've done anything differently than Uncle Sam. Then again, I've only been playing for a month. Attacking Southeast was a major strategic booboo, and may well end up costing us all our Mexican holdings.
3) Command and control seemed to break down as events rolled faster. I'm senior enlisted in my USNG platoon, and was initially receiving clear instructions from the brass about how to instruct and inform members about what to do. Near the end, I was doing it on my own initiative. Explaining who to fight for and why in Oaxaca was especially complicated, and the message was so poorly communicated that you still see Americans fighting for the defense there.
4) We paid the fine to ATLANTIS. Anybody happen to know how badly this will damage our economy/war effort? I'm not an economics guy, so I don't know.
not too bad, as we only paid a small part of it, 100 gold, a sizable chunk but not enough to cripple us.
The biggest problem with the weapons market is that it's so hard to plan. I personally think war games are the solution, increasing the demand to keep weapons companies afloat but not enough to mess things up like a full scale war. The only reason that didn't help in this war is that there wasn't enough time for companies to be founded between the war games and the actual war.
Still, the war got me to create a new iron company to try to help supply everyone, and that'll certainly keep existing for the next one.
Good for you productions. I'm sure your product will be in great demand.
All the pro-Uncle Sam people seem to think all the egregious errors in this war are okay because it was a nice little learning experience for the country.
Awesome.
So what are we... like three days from having to take back Texas from the Portuguese? Great job, guys.
Desmond they will not attack our original places, it will invoke OUR MPP's if they do.
we did a great job and now we just go to make nice with atlantis and get them to send some troops over here to stop peace from advancing. Also i think we need more gun companies and the government to start boosting our gun companies too. sorry if i repeated myself to much going on in my head. soon im starting my own company for guns i hope to supply large quanities of cheap guns
@desertfalcon we got greedy and now look we r losing but we still got some nice exp.
i agree with D. F. on this one..
While I agree with Desertfalcon's statement, I think your article was very well wrote, and I agree with a lot of it. While we'll probably end up with no territorial gains, we've learned a great deal about how other wars are likely to go. Voted.
Why is that you guys always reference us and our country with food... tacos and burritos at that.... nasty... why don't you reference us with some tasty food like (since its lent) tortitas de camaron con nopales!!! now thats the shiznit!!!

I agree that this war was initially a great idea, but poorly executed. I also agree that even if we lose all the territory, it's not a total loss. But what we SHOULD have done is attack 1-2 territories and STOP, then start a few RWs for awhile and build up our war experience without risking retaliation from Portugal. It was greed and hubris that caused us to keep pushing into Mexico after we took the initial three provinces. And now we have to deal with Portugal being on our doorstep for the forseable future.
Good job.
Aren you have come a long way in the last 2 months. Voted and Subscribed.
Thanks Wester that means alot coming from you 🙂
I can't believe you idiots ruined it for us at Oaxaca.
government subsidizing could decrease weapons supplies. Lowering weapons tax is the best subsidy and easiest done politically.
