Open Letter to President Sumeragi

Day 1,656, 02:09 Published in Japan Japan by Akki

I have already sent Private message to you, President Sumeragi, to notify you right away on the recent decision by the ULJ to drop our party endorsement for you in the next president election; however, I had promised to write a more detailed article explaining our decision. I hope this article/letter will better explain our decision as a party to drop our support for you in the coming presidential election. I feel that this open latter will better justify our decision and to inform the possibly curious general public why we decided to change our endorsement near the deadline.

To recap on the background of this process, it was even before the congress election when Kenji Li from Sakurakai asked me if I would like to have ULJ ally with them to support President Sumeragi for President. At the time, I had politely declined due to the fact presidential election was still far away and in case any other citizens of eJapan candidate themselves as potential presidential candidate. In more recent times, six to seven days back, you, Ms. President, has sent me a private message asking me if I had “any particular candidates [that I] have in mind for the next presidential election.” At the time I had expressed my support towards your continued presidency seeing that you have made positive progress within eJapan.

However, this was before any of the recent issues surrounding your government and your cabinet regarding accountability, transparency, and other administrative issues on game, forum, and IRC. I do not know what has happened within your government in the days after I had officially committed ULJ endorsement behind you, President Sumeragi, in the game, but something has happened, which brought to light many administrative and accountability issues within your government. These issues had some of our members concerned, and I also had some private citizens consult me whether I thought such unprofessional handling of these issues were tolerable. Without any concrete answer to such a complex and multifaceted question, I had called for closed door meeting between core old time and still active members (who will not be named here for their privacy) to ask for their opinion in this issue.

In the closed door meeting between core ULJ members, we had debated and deliberated for 3 days whether we believe if you had overstepping your power as president and if we could justify our decision to continue our support for your reelection. Lack of the preservation of a respectful political atmosphere where all citizens of eJapan are free to speak under your administration has also irked some of our members which was also one factor we considered when we were weighing consequence of ULJ supporting or not supporting your presidency. ULJ defend diversity of political opinion within national unity, and recent ultra-partisan political climate within eJapan has been detrimental to our national unity and national policy making process.

It is, however, useful to note here that idea of ULJ supporting Ernesto Jeon has been shot down unanimously within the closed door meeting. ULJ believes Ernesto is far more terrible choice, and we have no plan to support his presidential attempt in any way.

After 24 hour voting period within the closed meeting and after weighing possible consequence of either action, ULJ has decided to drop our support for your presidency, President Sumeragi, with two-third of those in favor of dropping you for someone from ULJ. ULJ has decided to instead endorse Darshu for the next presidential election.

Darshu is long time citizen of eJapan who has had numerous leadership positions within eJapan in the past. He is also known as a guy who is willing to be able to work with many people from different group for the benefit of eJapan. Darshu being a former two time president of eJapan, I think he has ability to continue to work with both eROC and international allies around the world to continue to improve eJapan’s position within eWorld to provide both stability and security to eJapanese citizens. ULJ feels that he can both bring back internal stability within eJapan through restoration of respectful but diverse political atmosphere while tackling difficult foreign issues that has continued to plague eJapan in recent times. We have absolute confidence in Darshu’s ability and we feel that he is the best option we have right now, given the candidates running for the next presidential election.

This decision however does not mean that ULJ does not wish to try to work with your government to address some concerns we have regarding your government’s actions. We are willing to continue to work with the government of eJapan no matter the side that is elected, as we work for the betterment of eJapan and we feel that it is always possible to improve one’s ability at good governance. However, at the current state, ULJ will have to drop our support for your reelection, President Sumeragi, because recent conduct of you and your cabinet members has made it such that we can no longer justify our continued support of your administration.

I pray for better eJapan

-Akki, Party President of United Lolies of eJapan
