On eMacedonia/eFYROM

Day 1,031, 14:47 Published in Israel Israel by Jewyoyo

Approximate historical region known as Macedonia.

Wow, what a circus this whole Macedonia/FYROM issue become. It has revealed quite a bit of the nature of some our highest officials, and of our fair-weather friends. For those unaware of the situation I am referring to, I will explain.

An article was written, in which many different presidents were asked their opinion of the addition of FYROM as an in-game country. Our own duly elected president, Aeroner, had this to say in the article:

"Well, the Republic of Macedonia, or FYROM, is recognized in real-life by the United Nations, albeit some naming disputes. Greece and FYROM still hold close ties in RL, even while the dispute about the name continues, and you guys already seem to have a pretty strong following within eRepublik already, so I don't know what the problem is with allowing you guys to have a country. The worse that can happen is that tensions flare up between you and Greece, but still, you remain close in RL, why does it have to be any different in-game?

I support Macedonia*"

*FYROM was intended here.

A measured, reasonable, fair response by Mr. President? I think so. In fact, I would expect nothing less. But this answer by Aeroner really pissed off the owner of the eloquently titled newspaper "HELLAS OWNS YOU". So he published an article in our own humble media entitled "THANK YOU ISRAELI ALLIES FOR THE BACKSTAB". Similar articles to longtime allies of eGreece, eRomania and eCroatia, were written as well.

The situation soon changed though when our Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dean Michaely, voiced his own opinion.

"Dear eWorld and our EDEN friends.

the last statement of our president, Aeroner, wasn't supported and asked by the eIsraelies and not asked by his MoFA or the biggest party of eIsrael that supported him.

we don't have anything against macadonians but we are supporting our Greeks and standing in the back of every EDEN decission that will take place on this issue.

with all due respect, taking regions from eGreece isn't supported by any eIsraeli or RL Israeli, everyone who knows a little bit about the relations between the Israeli and the Greek will know that for sure."

So in a strange turn of events, our Minister of Foreign Affairs issued his own MoFA statement regarding FYROM, in complete opposition to our president's statement. Dean bizarrely states that Aeroner (president) did not ask him (MoFA) before making the decision. He also says Aeroner did not ask the Israeli people, which is also odd because Dean did not ask us either before releasing his MoFA statement. In addition, he says we will back every 'EDEN decision', perhaps without the knowledge that Croatia (EDEN) and Romania (EDEN) supported the addition of FYROM.

Well, it is clear what is going on here, Dean Michaely wants to appease the angry Greek owner of "HELLAS OWNS YOU". And it worked. The article "THANK YOU ISRAELI ALLIES FOR THE BACKSTAB" was edited and became "THANK YOU ISRAELI ALLIES FOR THE UNDERSTANDING" (apologies for the caps-lock, this guy likes big letters):

"AFTER THE OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF THE eISRAELI MOFA AND THE SUPPORT OF THE eISRAELI CITIZENS I BELIEVE THAT THE ISSUE WITH THE SUPORTING STATEMENT OF THE ISRAELI CP ABOUT ADDING "eMACEDONIA" IN EREP IS CLOSED.

THE TIES OF FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN OUR 2 eNATIONS ARE STRONG AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE STRONG AND IN THE FUTURE.

I CAN ONLY THANK THE ISRAELI MOFA FOR THE UNDERSTANDING"

To sum it up: Deny the Macedonians nationhood, and this guy will be our best bud. But say we support the addition of FYROM to the game, such as our President stated, and we get a 'thank you for the backstab'.

To the owner of "HELLAS OWNS YOU": You and your cause have zero respect from me and other Israeli citizens who see through the wool. We will not be bullied by individuals or countries into recognizing or unrecognizing any nation, so don't try it.

To Dean Michaely, a proud RL Israeli: Reflect on Israel's history, past and present. Why are you so quick to bend to pressure to not recognize FYROM, when so many countries today do the same in regards to Israel?
