War Games
At the present time, due to the necessity of preparing for possible attack, the war games will be postponed until the middle of next week. Citizens are urged to stay informed by subscribing to and reading The Briefing Room and watch the shouts and read ECHO orders through PMs. If battle breaks out, do not immediately go to fight before being clear about what orders are, especially if you are in the National Guard. For those in the Army or the Marines, follow orders from your CO. Citizens must make it a point to stay informed.

US Roles and Changing Alliances
The current situation in the eWorld makes it necessary for the eUS to choose a new role in its position in the world. The decisions we will have to make as a country demand mature and responsible leadership and actions, as a lack of maturity and responsibility at this time will be detrimental to the security of our eNation. If eUSA does not recognize its role in international relations, our country will become meaningless to PEACE armies that will be able to march in without the support of strong ATLANTIS allies to aid in our defense. We still have good MPPs, but we also need good diplomatic relations as well as a good supply of iron (much of which used to come from Romania) to remain and build upon our strength.
With Romania's defeat in the war of Day 541, leaving Romania with no high iron territories to supply weapons, Romania is at a greatly diminished capacity to provide support to ATLANTIS, both directly with military might and indirectly with resources, particulary iron. Dozens of iron and weapons companies that used to supply Romania are now at Indonesia's disposal and Romania has withdrawn its military forces from major operations. The only high iron territory in all of the ATLANTIS nations is now controlled by Spain. Without this resource, we will not be able to supply sufficient quantities of affordable weapons during war to attack or defend. If Spain is not defended, PEACE (who has players that spend real-life money to get gold) will have virtually unlimited access to cheap weapons to use in further attacks throughout the world. While ATLANTIS has gotten weaker as a result of PEACE advances, PEACE will not back off.
ATLANTIS has reached a point of inevitably either dissolving or changing its structure. Because eUSA does not have a direct source of high iron besides trade with Spain and our military is not yet strong enough to face attacks from multiple countries on our own, we need our alliances and strong MPPs to stay viable. It is without question that some of our current alliances will change and we need to decide what kind of alliance we want. Either eUSA will become a more active player in a changing ATLANTIS or we will have to be an active player in the formation of a third alliance to counter the existing ones. President scrabman and members of our govenment are taking these considerations seriously to determine what our best course of action will be.

The German-Swedish Problem and eUSA
Militarily, second to Romania, Sweden has been the next strongest power in ATLANTIS, having sent forces to aid in many wars around the world to help ATLANTIS. Germany, at one time a PEACE ally, has left PEACE and had gone into a trial period to join ATLANTIS to become another good ally of ours. Our country has MPPs with both Sweden and Germany.
Sweden and Germany have had problems with each other for a long time and have been at war before for different reasons. Germany has some good resources, including three high-grain regions, while Sweden lacks any high resource regions. Our country has not had to be expansionist because we have many resources besides iron to be able to sustain our economy and population. Sweden is in a different situation, as was Romania and Indonesia, with a lack of natural resources in its original territory and Sweden has taken on expansionism as a way to bring those resources to Sweden. With this expansionism, Sweden would like to take over Denmark or fight Germany to get those resources. They have decided to go after Germany and this has been a subject of discussion within ATLANTIS for some time, because it would mean having to take sides between these two countries while at the same time trying to fight against PEACE. Sweden has gone forward with its plans and has just declared war on Germany. This has put president scrabman in a difficult situation. If Sweden attacks Germany, PEACE will either watch to see what happens or they will launch an attack on distracted ATLANTIS countries who are fighting among themselves. For this reason, president scrabman has officially decided to remain neutral in this conflict and not send marines to either location. However, Sweden is much stronger militarily than Germany is, which in essence would mean that Sweden would be supported due to lack of support for Germany. Sweden has threatened to leave ATLANTIS if they are not supported. This has divided many nations within ATLANTIS on whether to support Germany on moral grounds or support Sweden who has been a long-time strong military ally.
Although president scrabman will not directly be sending military support, once Germany is attacked, our MPP with Sweden would cancel and our MPP with Germany would be activated, meaning non-military citizens could fight in the moral defense of Germany.

We can't have a war within Atlantis or have Sweden join Peace. We must intervene on the side of Sweden and either help negotiate a peace where Sweden would get a high grain territory or we must make sure Sweden quickly conquers Germany.
If this is the case can we just increase the taxes on imported iron and offer some incentives for people to buy US iron? Truly a horrible position we've been put in, it's not because people are buying gold, it's 'hackers' creating gold and currency out of nothing.

Just to be clear, the purpose of these actions was to prevent eUSA citizens fighting for Germany via the activated alliance. Scrabman and his cronies do not want eUS citizens to fight for Germany.
@ Gertrude: thanks for your comments. Without them, I don't think I even would have noticed the RW's vs. Turkey, and put together what I think is happening.
I find myself in an uncomfortable situation. I consider myself to be friends with both EH and the Scrab.
As an individual citizen, I didn't have to make the hard choices they had to make as public officials. As I said, I don't envy their position. In their place, with that responsibility, I can't say for sure that I would not have done the same thing.
But the bargain that's being made bothers me. It appears to me that most Americans accept it, even if they don't like it.
But I want to make sure that everyone understands (to the extent I understand it-- I'm still a relative noob) exactly what that bargain entails, and that it has potential consequences.

Actually, Gertrude (not my friend) and Jon (my dear friend) you are both wrong. The Presidents of both Greece and Israel contacted me and asked for my assistance. In fact they were quite adamant about my assistance. I discussed it with my military (Leroy and Eugene mainly as my MOD and CJCOS) and both agreed to the support to liberate lands that were originally part of two of our other allies. I would note that the UK has also deployed their troops to the same regions.

it would be a mistake if US would leave ATLANTIS. the alliance is no worse then it was a month ago when germany was a PEACE member. what country would the US ally itself with? indonesia? Bismark = (PEACE member for those who don't know). Our MPPs are still intact and we don't intend on letting them go. ATLANTIS is NOT the same as it was and Romania is not as strong, with no high iron regions in Romania. Romania is still our ally and eUSA is neither backstabbing Romania nor Sweden.
