Of American Diplomats

Day 966, 14:45 Published in USA USA by Myles Robinson

Hello all,

Happy Anniversary of WWIII. One year ago today, the Great War of 2009 broke out with the French invasion of Canada. The next day, Russia would hit Alaska and the onslaught that would force the United States and many of its allies to their knees but eventually lead to the dissolution of the PEACE Global Community would be in full-swing. Today, a year later, the New World has completely changed with the coming of V2. The war module is turned off for now, but the stage is set for a brand new conflict as Russia has again move into Alaska and Croatia, praised by some as the overall "winner" of V1, finds itself in a very precarious position with its most valuable region in the hands of an enemy. Russia, meanwhile, has opened up a horde of MPPs against itself in a way similar to the United States last summer. Once the module is on, there will be chaos as people try to take advantage of the situation and adjust to the new method of warfare, defense systems, and hospital use.

But, since the module is off, there isn't too much hard news to cover. Thus, I've decided to do a special. Most articles at the moment are complaints about the Admin and/or the economy, and a certain fgt has an article out praising people for their economic greatness. I find economics boring. So, I'm writing one about the people who have moved-and-shaken at the forefront of American diplomacy since right before the invasion of North America.

These are our Secretaries of State, called Ministers of Foreign Affairs in every other country (we're AMURICA and we like to be special. You silly Europeans can keep your 'ministers'). I've had the privilege of working with every one since LexLuthor1 back in August. I'm going to run through what happened during their terms, and what their careers were like. I might have mixed some facts and dates up; if I did, please point them out-- I apologize in advance. Some people might get upset when I say something truthful. But I don't care. It's a game. So, NYAH.

LaurenBug, Bradley Reala Administration, July 2010

The current and first female Secretary of State, LaurenBug was perceived by several to be a surprise pick for the position due to her lack of public exposure and relative greenness of the world stage. She has nonetheless been a long-serving active bureaucrat in the Department of State, working with both the State Department and Congress on overseeing the citizenship process of the United States. Only a week into her term, she is currently ordering an overhaul of the State Department staff and working with her team to maintain good relations with nations before the opening of the war module.

Mr. Hyphenated, Harrison Richardson and Chocolate McSkittles Administrations, May-June 2010

A media mogul and former Secretary of the Media, Mr. Hyphenated is a well-known individual who was brought in as new blood to the US State Department during Harrison Richardson's most recent presidency. His two consecutive terms as Secretary of State were predominantly marked by tensions with India over a Karnataka rental agreement, the decision to return Karnataka to India, overall maintaining good relations with India, the creation of a new free trade and economics devision within the State Department, and working to deal with Phoenix attacks on allies and ATO efforts. The latter portion of his second term was marked by inactivity due to real life issues, eventually leading him to hold the position in name only as his deputy and predecessor, Myles Robinson, became Acting Secretary of State and handled the operations of the department. Currently, Mr. Hyphenated is two-clicking, but may return soon and hopefully start releasing his famous news segment in the US media.

Myles Robinson, Woxan Administration, April 2010

&quot😉olphins > Dogs > Cats. Ajay, be my friend." ~Myles
One of the longest-serving and most prominent members of the State Department, Myles finally rose to the top spot after the tumultuous departure of the United States from EDEN. Prior to service he had served for several months as America's chief diplomat to Asia and within the bureaucratic levels of the department. His term was rocky from the beginning as relations between the United States and Poland spiraled out of control, with the presidential administration trying to straddle a line of neutrality between the EDEN and Phoenix alliance, the latter of which began a large campaign to try persuade the United States to join its ranks. After writing an article on behalf of Woxan criticizing the Polish government's lack of communication over their planned invasion of Mexico, he worked to maintain constant communication with representatives of Poland, Romania, and Spain throughout the overblown crisis. His term was also marked by one of the largest shake-ups in the State staff in months, as well as working to bring Japan and Ireland into the Brolliance. At the end of his term, he served as Mr. Hyphenated's Deputy Secretary before finally leaving the State Department after 10 months of service in June. He is currently the White House Chief of Staff.

Bradley Reala, Jewitt and PigInZen Administrations, December 2009, January 2010, March 2010

"You're fired." ~Brad
A multiple-term Secretary of State, Brad had been involved with the department for a long time. Inheriting the position when former Secretary of State Cerb resigned, his two and a half months in the top position saw tumultuous diplomatic waters for the United States with the invasion of the United Kingdom and subsequent beginning of the public schism between EDEN High Command and elements within the United States. In his final term as Secretary, the PigInZen administration pushed for the removal of the United States from EDEN. It was also under Brad's term that the United States, under the Jewitt Administration, coordinated with EDEN and Asian governments on a liberation campaign--the War of the Three Pillars--and entered into a rental agreement with India over Karnataka. Many of the people appointed under Brad's term have gone on to higher positions within the State Department. Prior to serving in the top spot, Brad had served in several positions including Deputy Secretary and with the Citizen Task Force. Most recently, Brad has followed a few other former Secretaries of State in rising to become President of the United States, a position that he currently holds.

Devoid, Josh Frost Administration, February 2010

Though known more for his economic experience, this former Libertarian Party president abruptly stepped from Deputy Secretary to Secretary of State when Woxan was forced to resign due to real life concerns. His short term was preoccupied with rebuilding the State Department, coordinating to stop Phoenix advances in Asia and South Africa, continuing to work with India over Karnataka, and trying to stop problems with EDEN from continuing to go out of control as feelings within the American political community began to grow wary of the continued relationship with the alliance. Devoid left the country soon after to move to India, but has since returned and is now Secretary of the Treasury.

Woxan, Josh Frost Administration, February 2010

"Blu spy is in the base." ~Woxan
Dubbed the Renaissance American for his many roles in American politics, Woxan's entrance into the Department of State at the start of Josh Frost's second administration was tumultuous at best and tends to be described as one of the worst administration transitions, mostly due to political tensions between the Frost and PigInZen/Jewitt camps and their supporters. Diplomatically the term was already rocky due to the American invasion of Britain initiated during Jewitt's presidency and Spain's renewed attacks on France. Though having diplomatic experience and very understanding of foreign affairs, Woxan's short term as Secretary of State saw a minor rebellion among the department staff due to administrative issues and a lack of internal communication. Woxan was eventually forced to resign due to real life time constraints. He would later return to become President of the United States.

Cerb, Josh Frost and Jewitt Administrations, November-December 2009

"Most people don't realize that USA SoS is like a miniature version of the Presidency." ~Cerb
A prominent player, former Deputy Secretary of State, and two-term Secretary of State, Cerb's terms in the top spot saw an incredibly busy few months in American diplomacy. Under President Josh Frost, the nation simultaneously made peace with France and Italy and joined the EDEN alliance. Notably (and perhaps surprisingly given his military reputation), Josh Frost never pressed the attack button once during his term and focused heavily on diplomacy, with Cerb helping at the forefront. He was also highly active during President Frost's term in helping push along the dissolution of the PEACE Global Community by going after nations like France and Italy, and then during President Jewitt's term in helping arrange the liberation campaign in Asia. Internally, under Cerb, the structure of the State Department began to solidify quite a bit. After resigning from the Jewitt Administration, Cerb moved to Australia, where he became a prominent leader there and was eventually elected as President of Australia. He began the Dogs > Cats internal mantra of the State Department, which Myles Robinson would later replace with Dolphins > Dogs > Cats. (nyah 😛)

WahooBob, Gaius Julius Administration, October 2009

Appointed as Secretary of State in the second term of Gaius Julius, as the war in North America was beginning to wind down, WahooBob's chief task was helping to rebuild the State Department from the ground-up, with most of its internal operations having to have been suspended during the invasion. He had wanted to work on extending the "level of friendship" that was the Brolliance to Spain and Greece as well. After his term, he went on to serve as President Jewitt's Chief of Staff and has been fairly active in American politics and diplomacy since then.

Wade Seagrave, Gaius Julius Administration, September 2009

A long-time veteran of the State Department who helped to build and maintain the Bureau of Ambassador Affairs, he was appointed to the position when Gaius Julius ascended to the presidency following Emerick's resignation. His primary focus as Secretary of State was laying the groundwork for the Department's structure that subsequent secretaries would use. He created the regional boss system, the departmental chain of command, and the Office of Developing Regions (for economic purposes). He was unhappy with being replaced at the end of Gaius' first term, feeling he was never given a chance to prove himself, and subsequently left the United States; he has since held positions in several other countries, most notably Austria, and is still active in the world.

Gaius Julius, Emerick Administration, August-September 2009

Appointed from Chief of Staff to Secretary of State mid-term during Emerick's administration to replace his inactive predecessor, Gaius Julius served during the chaos that was the invasion of North America. During this time a peace treaty with PEACE was designed and approved by the government, trying to exhaust the last remaining diplomatic means necessary to secure the United States from being wiped out. When Russia rejected the treaty, the United States began to rebound and reclaim what was lost. Gaius was active at this time helping coordinate with EDEN and other allies. He was forced to resign, though, to become President upon Emerick's forced departure due to real life issues. Gaius was elected to the presidency twice, helped finish up the liberation of North America, served in a variety of capacities since then, and eventually became the military leader of the EDEN Alliance. He continues to be a prominent voice and diplomat in the United States and the world, and is frequently in charge of American diplomatic relations with EDEN. He also tends to rank as one of the most popular American presidents.

LexLuthor1, Emerick Administration, August 2009

A good administrator and diplomat with former experience chairing the Congressional Foreign Relations Advisory Committee, LexLuthor1 rose to this position in Emerick's presidency. However, due to real life issues, his term was cut very short, his most public action being the efforts to stop a PTO of South Africa led by Ajay Bruno. Importantly, he also helped create the Citizenship Task Force. He disappeared for a long time following his 10-day stint as Secretary of State, but resurfaced several months ago and has since been highly active in American politics and even served again as Deputy Secretary of State. He continues to be an active member of the eUS political community.

Emerick, Harrison Richardson Administration, July 2009

"Emerick is Great." ~America
Having first served as Secretary of State under Immunogenic and during Operation: French Toast, President Richardson invited Emerick to be his Secretary of State after defeating him in the July elections. His first act was to recognize and try stop the impending schism between the United States and United Kingdom, but upon the United Kingdom being unreceptive he and others pieced things together to realize that a storm was about to unleash upon the United States and its allies. During the invasion he helped to coordinate between the United States, Canada, and EDEN, and would frequently speak with both enemy and allied nations. He began the peace talks with PEACE GC at this time, which would later be finished up during his administration. Emerick went on to defeat Richardson the following month and become president, organizing "Team America" and exhausting all venues to save the United States from invasion. His efforts have largely been credited for the American victory in the war, and have earned him a large fan following. Though he was eventually killed in-game, Emerick continues to be one of the most prominent members of the eUS political community and a useful diplomat.

And that is the last year of American chief diplomats. Love some of them, hate some of them, they've all played a part in shaping our foreign policy for the past year. Other prominent Americans to hold the position before this include Harrison Richardson, Publius, Desertfalcon, and Inwegen.

Statemaxx.

Love,
Myles
