November Congressional Elections - UKRP Electoral Office Report

Day 737, 12:04 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by fsx121

I have to start by thanking everyone for the overwhelming support we - UKRP - have received in November '09 Congress elections. Anyone suggesting that UKRP+FDP coalition will secure 10 + seats in the Parliament would be look at, on the eve of the election day, as a lunatic. But here we are, an overwhelming victory for UKRP and our FDP allies.

Jamesw's official UKRP article is here - I will be not be repeating any facts. What I'd like to share with you is the background atmosphere from the UKRP's Electoral Office.

Jamesw, in his UKRP Congressional Director role, started the day early. From 12 GMT (4am or so erep time), when the voting starts to slowly pick up, he informed UKRP Election Team that he is ready for the big Day.

It was too early for me to be with him there, but I imagine he was in the UKRP HQ Boarding Room, bending over a map of UK regions covering most of the oval table, counting, recounting and triple checking every region and every vote coming in. The only brakes he allowed him self would be a quick stare outside the window - he could just about spot Big Ben, just next to the "Target". Plans were running through his head as the electoral story was unfolding. Just after lunch, he dropped the first report on the party: we are starting quite well, let's keep it up.

I took a train to London and decided to walk to the UKRP HQ. Passing by Downing Street, crossing White Hall, always having House of Commons in the corner of my eye in the dim light left from the day. I didn't pay much attention to them, only electoral questions were running through my hea😛 Have we missed any opportunity to get more support? Was there some one else we should have persuaded? Have there been any additional political deals to be done?

Once I entered the Boarding Room I could feel the tense atmosphere. First time candidates were all crowded around the round table - now just the map: BombadierBeetle, Mike Kelley, unitedrule. Seasoned candidates, without any election win, were just a bit further, trying to look like not interested, but very keen to stay on the top of any development - I realised I had look like both of these groups not such a long time ago. In the corner, sitting in the arm chairs, were the veteran MPs: certacito, jerryGFL and Raziel Darkheart.

I have checked on my progress and to my big surprise, I was in the lead in my region, EoE. Well that's new, I thought for myself.

I slowly joined the group next to the window - one time MPs, standing almost symbolically halfway between the round table and comfy armchairs: Tony Evans, Jhorlin, FatefulDestruction.

Around 6ish, the votes picked up, more than doubling in 2 hours. And the mood imprvements was very clearly in the air, the first good results were followed by even better!

Suddenly the room went quite. I raised my head to find everyone staring at the news screen. jamesw run to the TV set and unmuted the volume. A report from a far place in the world, by the shadows estimating at midday was just on. A middle aged lady with American accent talking to the camera - "... the phone doesn't work, electricity is cut off, no cable TV or radio and after starting my car I have noticed my navigation system doesn't give any direction..." I suddenly realised - infrastructure down and GPS jamming - that can mean only one - INVASION!

The reports from that Maine battle are coming in - not the sneakiest way to do it on the election day, but better then idle air we had in eUK until now. Everyone know this is just a strategic move, other territories will be invaded and taken, but not this one. The discussion has shifted from the Congressional to Presidential Elections, it is not clear what kind of bid this is.

Party President Churchill, due to his shifted schedule, joined a bit later. He was already updated on the voting progress and clearly seen that we are doing well. That didn't stopped him: running in and out of the room he tried to secure additional votes for the marginal constituencies, adding a safety margin where needed. The liaison link with FDP was hot, but efficient.

Towards 10pm the election has been a success. Usually more then 90 % of votes are cast by now, only marginally affecting the outcome.

Just before midnight, one of the UKRP seats was short on votes to secure a wildcard - a quick and decisive move was set in motion - throw all emergency support at it, pull every remaining vote in.

I left after midnight, exhausted. Laying down into my bad, I knew I'm too excited to fall asleep - Great Electoral results for UKRP and invasion of US - I did get up, grabbed my 1 star guns from the stockpile in my cellar and went catch the Hercules to Maine Battlefield - I must deliver a few strategically useless and completely vain hits to US, for the War Stories to tell my grand children. Thanks for all the junk in our medias! I'll come to my senses tomorrow and will go fight to Flanders.

Congratulations to all elected, commiserations to non-qualified, see you in Flanders.

Thanks again for support and thanks for reading!

If you want to be part of this, it's happening here.
