Not Much is Really Sacred
Pfenix Quinn
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'
NOT MUCH IS REALLY SACRED
As the election cycle rolls around once again, I'd just like to say that I don't ever want to be your God-Emperor Dickta-Presidente - that's not my business -- I don't want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help all players a wee bit if possible, Murikans del Norte y del Sur; Russyanikis and Polskis; Iries and Brit-peeps; Hannish, Tamilish and Kurdish alike; Red Indian, West Indian and East Indian; black man and white; tall and small.
When you look at the big game, we all want to help one another. Despite all that goes awry here, human beings are like that. We all want to live by each other's happiness, not by each other's misery. We don't want to hate and despise one another. And even in this mad, mad New World, despite its crazy obsession with idiotic and meaningless wars, its lack of a real economy, and its woefully inadequate political module, even in this decaying and shrinking and pitiful e-world... there is room for everyone. In fact, the eRepublikan world is rich and bountiful and can provide for everyone.
The e-way of life can be free and beautiful.
But we have lost the way.
Greed and nationalism have poisoned player's minds -- have barricaded the e-world with hate; have goose-stepped us into misery and boredom, into deadly ruts and routines.
We have developed mechanics but we have shut ourselves inside the machine. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness and economy and industry and science have made us hard, unfeeling and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than e-mechanics we need e-humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness, gentleness and imagination. Without these qualities, e-life is a dull routine of mindless violence and unsatisfying work. In such a cycle, all is lost even when all is gained.
The internet brings us closer together. The very nature of the game cries out for the goodness in men and women, cries out for universal sisterhood and brotherhood, for the unity of us all. Even now my words are probably reaching ten, perhaps even a dozen people throughout the world! And no doubt soon it may be as many as a twenty or so despairing players -- men, women, boys, girls, old folks and little ones, victims of a banal money-making system that makes people virtually e-murder each other, steal each others lands, and compete for resources without ever really being able to build anything of interest.
To those who can feel me I say: "Do not despair."
The misery that is upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of admins and players who fear the way of human evolution; the hate of men will pass. Dictators and other huge flaming a-holes will die. The power they took from the people will return to the people. So long as players struggle to keep the Protracted Revolutionary Peoples War alive in their minds, liberty will never perish.
Soldiers, don't give yourselves to brutes, to officers who despise you and enslave you, who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel, who drill you, diet you, treat you as cattle, as cannon fodder.
Don't give yourselves to these unnatural golems, these machine men, with machine minds and machine hearts. You are not machines. You are not cattle. You are free players. You have the love of all humanity in your hearts. You don't hate -- only the unloved hate. Only the unloved and the those who have become one with the machine. Soldiers -- don't fight for slavery. Fight for liberty.
The Protracted Revolutionary Peoples War is within us. Not in one player, or a small group, but in all players, in you, in the people of the world.
You the people have the power, to create machines and to create happiness. You the people have the power to make e-life free and beautiful, to make this game a wonderful adventure. In the name of liberation from boredom, let's use that power -- let us all unite. Let us fight for a new new world, a decent world that will give all players a chance to dance and sing and plunder and celebrate and whirl around and play, that will give you and your e-fam a future.
By the promise of these things, various tiresome cabals have gummed up the works. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes just due to lack of imagination. They have not fulfilled their promises, and they never will. Dictator-machine-minds, whether named "Dictator" or "President", free themselves but they enslave the people.
Now let us fight to fulfill such promises. Let us fight to free the New World, to do away with all national barriers, do away with greedy heartlessness, and with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason and delight, an e-world where imagination and re-invention will lead to all player's happiness.
Soldiers and citizens of the New World -- in the name of world revolution, let us all unite!
Whoop, whoop! Never forget to bash the fash, juggalos, 'cause it's OUR game.
All Power to the People.
Ursa Fi. This machine kills fascists.

"In the end, everything is a gag."
I love you, man!
You speak from the heart and if I could let my heart speak, it would be these same words.
But you are wrong when you say: "But we have lost the way."
Because we've never had it!
It's much easier to change one's way to a state that was experienced before, even for a brief moment.
We never lost it, we never owned it, we never knew it: we need to create it for the first time!
From day one we fell into this trap, we imagined the e-world as a reflection of the real world. But we embraced most of the negative characteristics of our civilization: greed, intolerance, even hate. We have been poisoned by our own ignorance, led astray from our true nature: human beings that care, help and love each other.
So how can we change? How can we become what we never were before?
How can we learn the right ways?
It's starts with a personal transformation.
And the seed is a personal insight.
And the first lesson is: have an open mind. Don't judge, don't condemn, but try to understand.
I am so thankful you took some time to write this beautiful article and I would be so happy if every e-soul in this e-universe would read it.
It's inspiring, it's uplifting and most important: it's the truth!
Thank you for that!
Well said. When I was an eChild, I believed the promise that we could create a New World, and I met players who gave me great hope. Sadly, the eWorld seems more and more to reflect the Real World. Is it lack of imagination/vision, the fault of game developers or old players, or just human nature? I don't know, but seeing articles like this restores some of my hope that there is still a possibility for change. Thanks, Phil, for shouting this and calling it to my attention.
Could not have said it better myself. In most cases the eWorld seems to feed itself on the RL greed and prejudices of the players.
On the other side there are a lot of amazing people around and communicating with those people, gives meaning to playing the game. Other than that its a pointless clicking to obtain virtual power and fame.
+1 vote just because you didn't write gibberish.
You don't happen to know someone named Phoenix Quin?
Also, you seem to love everyone except Cannucks.
I'm sure Cannucks can be counted as part of eHumanity. Incidientally, my RL mother was a Bluenose and would never have consented to being called a Cannuck. 😉
Well, as you know, I'm a transplant. Real life USA peep.
Long time kiddo, hope you are well.
Love to Cannucksters, Kebecksies and First Peeps of the Old, Cold North! PQ is my home boy and my north star, the flutter in my heart and the... oh wait, that's just reflux, never mind.
PQ is old friend. I miss his rants.
I'm glad you are back PQ

You're young and still have some juice to be squeezed out of on the white esheets of eR paper...
It is great to be Forever Young! https://youtu.be/P1fSVbBwVX8
Really well written. Change the context and the names and it seems a bit like a French Revolution manifesto. 🙂
Oh maybe a famous speech from a Charlie Chaplin movie?
Maybe 😂
Dont know what to say
Often it is best to say nothing. I often have to remind myself of that. Thanks for the comment.

... although publishing an article without cat pics on Caturday is as close as one can get to blasphemy
Here I stand, humbly cat-chised..
Voted.
Thanks!
Nice plagiarism.
I prefer to think of it as creative theft. "Good artists copy, great artists steal." -- Pablo Picasso "I'm bored. Let's do some crimes!" -- Duke, from Repo Man
Well, isn't that cute?
Yes!
nice
A well written, thought-provoking article. Thanks for sharing it with e-us.
