Newbie Experiences and Observations

Day 2,022, 16:31 Published in USA USA by Tanishq

Dear readers,

In my last article, I promised to spend some time reviewing my newbie experiences and observations. Today I offer you two snapshots of my first few weeks. The first is a compilation of some of the questions and game aspect evaluations I found my newblet-self pondering (I’ve included possible solutions to these questions and problems). The second is a more recent interview in which I explain how I got involved in the community via my work in the WTP (We the People) Internal Affairs department.

Part I:

Random observations:

1. I wish messages weren’t automatically deleted after 14 days. I need that information, people!

SOLUTION: Copy/paste everything important into a separate document on your computer. That way, you’ll never lose the information you need.

2. I wish there was a search function for newspaper articles.

SOLUTION: None that I’ve found… however, once I’ve found a good article I find it helpful to bookmark it for ease of reference.

3. The political module does not get too much more interesting once you join a party. Same goes for the military unit module.

For some reason, I thought that it would. Oh, well. 😃

Random questions:

1. Is there a convenient way to find new players in-game?

SOLUTION: Go to this link: http://www.erepublik.com/en/country/society/USA. Find the list of eUSA players online now. Go to the last page. New players! (Maybe there’s a better way of doing this, but this is all I could come up with…)

2. What is the best way for a new player to begin their political career?

SOLUTION: Well, there really isn’t just one solution. I hear the Ambassador program is a great way to gain some political experience. Alternatively, you could start out by volunteering for your party or some other organization. The important thing is to get involved.

3. Is there an eRepublik version of the United Nations?

I didn’t find too much information on the existence of such an organization within the eUniverse; as far as I can tell, there were a couple of attempts at its recreation, but they have remained relatively unsuccessful.

4. Where does the Department of the Interior get its funding?

The DoI is funded privately (as is the Department of Education).

Part II:

(Darknight293 was kind enough to interview me for his newspaper about a month ago. So, since this is essentially a reprint of the interview, here’s the link to the original article: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/wtp-internal-affairs-interview-part-1--2254380/1/20).

Darknight293: What do you do [in the We The People IA department]?

Tanishq: As a member of the IA (internal affairs) department of WTP, I've been helping Hale26 update the WTP census, tracking who joins and leaves the party (as well as how long they've been in the party) so we can update the voting list for party elections.

Darknight293: What is IA?

Tanishq: IA takes care of several WTP functions including census/voting updates, encouraging member activity and retention, and reaching out to new players and party members.

Darknight293: Why do you do what you do?

Tanishq: I love my party, and I love helping people out, so being a part of WTP's IA department has been (and continues to be) the perfect job for me!

Darknight293: What are the hard parts of your job?

Tanishq: Fortunately, I am online fairly regularly, so I rarely get behind in my work. However, election time can be a bit hectic since lots of people temporarily switch parties.

Darknight293: How did you find WTP?

Tanishq: Technically, I first found WTP through eRepublik’s list of top parties. However, it wasn't long before I had gotten a few PMs from different parties encouraging me to join. Unsure of which party to choose, I eventually decided to visit the IRC channels to get to know the players better before making my decision. While I enjoyed getting to know the people in other channels, the WTP members I met were so helpful and welcoming that I knew WTP was the party for me!

Darknight293: How did you find WTP's IA?

Tanishq: I discovered IA through a PM Hale26 had sent out to the party. At first I had no idea what exactly I was getting into; I just wanted to get involved and help out my party. But soon I learned what IA was all about, and I was glad to have joined the department after all.

Darknight293: What do you have in mind for the future?

Tanishq: Now that I’m in the process of transitioning from my original temporary role in the IA to a more permanent position within the department, I’m looking forward to serving my party – and my country – in other ways, as I am able. Time will tell where my desire to assist my fellow eCitizens will lead me. 😃

Thanks for reading! So now that you’ve heard a little about my experiences as a newbie, I’d like to hear about yours. What were some of your earliest experiences in and observations about the game? Let me know in the comments below!

All best,
