Need Help: Tentative New Citizen Guide for V2
Ace_Blazer
As the Minister of Education, it is my duty to revamp the new citizen guide for V2. Here is the guide so far. I would appreciate help in finalizing it. If there are other groups working on V2 development who see some holes here or have their own guides, by all means please post or PM your suggestions.

1. First Steps
1.1 Take a Job and Work
The first thing you need to do is take a job. Go to “My Places” and then click on “Company”. There will be a button to take you to the job offer list. Be careful and remember to choose a Q1 (1 star) Job! It is very important, as a higher Q on the job will only hurt your wellness more than you can replace it at your level. Some jobs offer a VERY high salary. Don't get fooled by it. Most of the time they just want to trap you there, and they won't be able to pay the salaries. If you find yourself in a position like this, be sure to press Resign and choose another job. However you need to wait 72 hours before you can resign. If there is no currency or raw material to make new products though, then you can resign instantly. If you ain't sure, Ask!
To Work, you need to use the slider to put the number of hours you want to work. You have 24 hours to work, train, study, and rest so choose wisely. Make sure you choose a booster. For your low level we recommend using the booster that costs no gold.
If you work 30 days in a row, you will receive a hard worker medal. For this, you get a Treasure Map. The Treasure Map can provide you gold that you can save up to buy a company, a house, or a high powered weapon.
1.2 Food
Food is the source of life in eRepublik. In the start you should make sure you have some food everyday to eat; if not, your wellness will fall drastically. Wellness and happiness affects how well you work, fight, train, and study. If you work at a Q1 company as you should, you won’t need to buy expensive food. (Verification of Q1 companies taking less wellness pending formulas by admins)
1.3 Upload an Avatar
Uploading an avatar is essential in the beginning as the first upload gives you a bunch of experience points. Choose any picture as long as it's in the .jpeg format.
1.4 Training
At the Training page you can spend time upgrading your strength which can make you stronger on the battlefield. Choose the skill you want to train in, the number of hours to train, and the booster. Again we suggest not using gold on boosters until much later.
Infantry beats artillery. Artillery beats helicopters. Helicopters beat tanks. Tanks beat infantry. Choose your skill wisely as some weapon types might be more expensive than others. More on the abilities of the different skills on the battlefield can be seen below on 2.2.
1.5 Studying
In the Library, you can study to boost your work skill that will allow you to produce more. Wages on the job market are based on skill level, so increasing your level may give you a better wage. Choose the number of hours and the booster that seems appropriate to you. If you need help choosing what to study, ask your employer, or take a look at the job market to see what skills provide the best wages.
1.6 Rest and Happiness
The Residential District gives you the opportunity to “chill out” after your day of work. The same slider is here: one hour spent resting will increase your happiness by 1. Happiness (as well as your health) increases your productivity and your fight output, so it’s a good idea to keep it high. There are boosters here. Try not to use your gold as you’ll need it later on in your eLife.
1.7 If Your Wellness is Too Low
If you make a mistake and your wellness has become too low, contact Canadian Health Services ASAP. They will help you.
2. Fighting
Always try to fight where you are told to fight by the Canadian Ministry of Defence orders. When you first pull up the fight page, you’ll be given the option to choose a weapon from your inventory. Then you will be given the opportunity to deploy when it’s your teams turn. Don’t deploy too far back: it could take a long time to get to the front (protip, you can use cheap helicopters to move yourself through 3 tiles). Try to travel in a group where you have a better chance of killing others. Turn times happen every 2 minutes for the attacker and the defender where they issue orders to move, use boosters, and/or attack.
You have two types of battles to fight in: attack and defense. When you attack, you can target an enemy in an adjacent hex. The enemy's turn is where you defend against a possible attack, and you must sit through it. You can choose a booster at the beginning of each phase to augment your defence, or the damage you might inflict.
Fights between citizens are determined by the comparative quality of the weapon you both have, and the strength of your citizens, the miltary rank you hold, the boosters you choose, and the terrain you're on.
Hospitals replenish the health lost in battle every time you fight. For example lets say the hospital is built to heal 22 health and you loose 16 health after a battle: you'll regain 16 health, but if you loose more than the hospital can replenish like 40 health, you'll regain only 22 health after the battle. Defence systems increase your defence in battle. Both hospitals and defence systems only work when you’re in range of the buildings on the battlefield. To see their range, click on them.
2.1 How Weapons Work
All weapons have 4 stats: attack, defence, durability, and damage.
Higher attack will increase the chance of hitting the enemy.
Higher defence will increase the chance of the enemy missing you.
Durability shows how many times you can use the weapon.
Damage is the amount of damage you can deal to the enemy.
2.2 Skill Types on the Battlefield
Infantry beats artillery. Artillery beats helicopters. Helicopters beat tanks. Tanks beat infantry.
Infantry can move 1 space and gets a 20% defensive bonus from forests.
Artillery can move 1 space and gets a 20% defensive bonus from cities.
Helicopters can move 3 spaces and get a 20% defensive bonus from hills.
Tanks can move 2 spaces, and get a 20% defensive bonus from plains.
Only infantry and helicopters can move across mountains.
3. How to Make Gold
Invite, invite, and again invite! Its a simple easy way to get gold, since everytime they get gold you will recieve a reward equivalent to 10% of what they earn!
Medals are also a way to get gold. When you get a medal, you recieve a Treasure Map. Using the Treasure Map will help you earn Gold too.
These are the medals you can get.
Hard Worker: Work 30 days in a row
Congressman: Be elected to Congress
Country President: Be elected President for your country
Media Mogul: Get 1000 subscribers to your newspaper
Battle Hero: Reach the highest damage score in a battle
Resistance Hero: Successfully liberate a region by starting a Resistance War
Super Soldier: Advance 5 Strength Levels
Society Builder: Invite 10 people and get them to level 6
4. Joining the Army or a Militia
Joining the army or a militia is an excellent way to learn about the war module and get free weapons.
The first step in the army is the Rangers. Fill out this form to apply, then wait for a response.
The two more well known militias in Canada include the independently run Crimson Order, and the Praetors which is run by the CPF.
5. Voting
When it comes time to vote, inform yourself about the candidate by reading their respective platforms. As an added bonus, you get an experience point when you vote.
There are 3 kinds of elections:
1. Country President elections, which occurs the 5th of every month.
2. Party President elections, which decides who will lead a party. Occurs the 15th of every month.
3. Congress elections, where you vote people into Congress. These elections occur the 25th of every month.
6. Do's and Don'ts
Do: Work, Eat, Train, Study, Fight and Heal EVERY DAY!
Don't join a party for the sake of joining.
Don't directly convert from one currency to another, unless the deal is really good. As a general rule, use gold as an in between.
Don't hold on too tight to your regional pride. If the country comes under attack and needs citizens to move, then move to the specified region. Ask for moving tickets from the government.
Don't spend gold on boosters. In the beginning it's usually a negligible boost, and the gold can be better spent on a house or a company.
7. Community
eRepublik is also a very social atmosphere. Making as many friends as possible, and asking for advice will help you progress. Joining IRC and the message boards can be extremely valuable in gaining eRepublik help.
Join eCanada's forum and get citizen access here.
IRC is an instant messaging client. Connect to irc.rizon.net and come talk to people in the #eCan channel (you can also accomplish this, by clicking on the IRC button at the top of the forums). This is a valuable place for advice from more experienced players.
8. Subscribe to Newspapers
It's your duty as a citizen to educate yourself about domestic and international affairs. Subscribe to the Presidential newspaper, and other good publications.
9. Useful sites and Tools
Here are some places that can help you in your eRepublik experience.
eRepublik Wiki: http://wiki.erepublik.com/
eRep Tools for worldwide prices, battle stats and demographics: http://ereptools.net/
Gecko Site, includes fight, wellness, and productivity calculator: http://erepmarket.co.cc
10. Summary
New users, please do not get discouraged. It starts out boring for the first day or so, then you will get hooked. eCanada needs you. There are so many other aspects of the game not covered in this article (politics, press, etc etc). If you have any questions, ask.

Comments
The guide will be complete with pictures of the war module, and a french translation.
I'll chip in a bit when I get some time. Gave it a quick read, looks fairly good. Especially based just on beta.
A quick note: if there isn't enough money or Raw Materials to work, you can resign right away, forgoing the usual 72 hour window where you can't resign
The 72 hour rule doesn't even seem to apply in the beta.
Also, people are free to discuss in the forum here:

Fantastic Ace 🙂
Keep up the good work!
I'm going to comment as I read if you don't mind as I have a few suggestions for improvement, and I'm not half way through reading it all.
My first suggestion is about 1.2 Food. It talks about working and treasure maps and what to do with the gold from these maps. I'd suggest you stick to food only and put the other concepts in separate sections for ease of use and for quick reference if a player is looking for something specific.
Next suggestion has to do with 1.4 Rest and Happiness. As it is now, you have this topic before studying, training and fighting.
Personally, I like to do all the activities that deplete my happiness first so I can guage how much I will need to rest. It is possible that a player following these instructions will do them in the order in which they appear, so I suggest moving Rest and Happiness to be behind Studying, training and fighting.
Now, looking at 1.5 The Library. Just a small point at first, to be consistent with the other topics, how about calling this one "Studying". Or else, call the other ones by the place that one goes to to do the activity.
Going further though, one comment you make in Studying is that the player may get a higher salary through study, but there are many other factors pertinent to this activity. One of them, of course, is that it helps the employer.
However, what about the issue of what to study? Especially in the early V2 times, certain companies will need a mix of professions. What will be the best way for a player to determine what to study? Hopefully the government will be doing studies and advertising guidelines, but as that has not yet happened, perhaps the best early advice would be for the player to contact an employer or some employers to ask what he or she needs. Alternately, the player could brouse the job market to get ideas about where he or she would best fit in?
I'm not sure why 1.2 mentions treasure maps. Silly me.
I'll make the changes to the happiness section.
As far as studying, this is up in the air. I've heard things from older beta players, such as "you won't be able to specialize". My personal belief is that the market will dictate who does what, not the government. I'll add in something about asking employers what they should study.
1.6 is train and fight. These activities take place in completely different pages now. One does not just go from training to fighting immediately. So I would suggest that they be separate topics.
Furthermore, there is a lot to say about fighting. Firstly, lets tell the player where to find a fight. Right now, the information is in the home page. I assume that the CAF will be issuing military orders much as it does in V1 now.
More later.
Well battle orders are linked at the top. I suppose I can provide another link.
I'll work on seperating training and fighting.
Table of Contents doesn't work :/
or is that just me
eRep is so broken that anchors don't work. It's mostly just an aesthetic thing now.
In the training section, would it be a good idea to suggest the player look at the various types of weapons available before choosing what to train in? This was critical at the beginning of V2 Beta when I trained as a helicopter pilot and then learned there were no helicopters available on the market. In later stages of the game, I suppose a full range of weapons will be available, but some may be too costly for new players.
I will assume tanks will be expensive since new companies will have to be made for them. Making prices skyrocket, until everyone makes them for "easy" money, then they will level out somewhat.
This is just a generalization.
I'm taking fighting out of the first section, as it fits with the "My Places" page.
Note to self. Q3 jobs take 3x more wellness than a Q1 job. All jobs take down 1 happiness per hour.
