My time in the Canadian Rangers

Day 799, 17:02 Published in Canada Canada by Ace_Blazer

I’ve been meaning to write this for a while, but I didn’t feel like it until now.

The Rangers have been targeted as a kind of boredom hole recently. Personally I don’t know what they’re talking about.

Around 3 months ago I started out with the first batch of Rangers during WWIII in 1st Platoon of the 1st Rangers Division under the command of Lt. Lokes. It was obvious that there needed to be some government organization to get newbies fighting, and this was the perfect way to do it. We were very lucky to have Lokes who was a very active platoon leader that made us active on the forums and IRC. Shortly we got our first batch of Q1s…10 of them; my heart nearly stopped, and we ended up getting around 10-15 per week. As a result I went flying through the in-game ranks. When I hit 4.5 strength, I didn’t want to join the CAF, and many of my fellow members felt the same. This surprised CAF command who was expecting more recruits to fill their ranks. The Rangers wasn’t just some training battalion, it had a culture of its own.

I am now a Cpl. in the 1st Eagle Eye Platoon, and it’s generally been noted that the new recruits from the Rangers come in with an excellent level of activity in the forums and IRC, which to me means that they’ve been trained well.

It’s been a while since I’ve been in the Rangers, and they tend to get a lot of flak these days even though they don’t say much themselves. I also don’t know how many weapons they get, or what kind of missions they do. I do know that activity tends to depend on the platoon leaders, so the experience varies from person to person. One of my friends, the grinch, whom I met on the Rangers IRC fought with me on a mobile mission for the Battle of Manitoba. He is now a Rangers platoon leader, and the last I looked, I had been pretty impressed by the level of activity in his platoon. These guys work hard to educate our newbies. Insulting them only discourages them.

About a month ago we had a very active bunch go through the Rangers writing articles and singing songs. It’s very different now. With the lack of war everyone is feeling bored, and even the CAF who was stationed in Spain for a week was mulling around. The Rangers being a newbie org has probably had its retention rate hurt due to current events (or lack thereof). That's still no reason to give them a hard time.

I’ve never been part of the Reserves so I can’t really say much about them. Suffice it to say the focus of the CAF is its mobile army: the CAF Regulars. If you want a true measure of CAF activity, you’d have to see the CAF IRC during a timed strike.

And no, the Rangers aren't only for newbies.

A shout out for Christian Doe who was and still is the main commander of the Rangers.
Rangers lead the way! o7
