My time in the Canadian Rangers
Ace_Blazer
I’ve been meaning to write this for a while, but I didn’t feel like it until now.
The Rangers have been targeted as a kind of boredom hole recently. Personally I don’t know what they’re talking about.
Around 3 months ago I started out with the first batch of Rangers during WWIII in 1st Platoon of the 1st Rangers Division under the command of Lt. Lokes. It was obvious that there needed to be some government organization to get newbies fighting, and this was the perfect way to do it. We were very lucky to have Lokes who was a very active platoon leader that made us active on the forums and IRC. Shortly we got our first batch of Q1s…10 of them; my heart nearly stopped, and we ended up getting around 10-15 per week. As a result I went flying through the in-game ranks. When I hit 4.5 strength, I didn’t want to join the CAF, and many of my fellow members felt the same. This surprised CAF command who was expecting more recruits to fill their ranks. The Rangers wasn’t just some training battalion, it had a culture of its own.
I am now a Cpl. in the 1st Eagle Eye Platoon, and it’s generally been noted that the new recruits from the Rangers come in with an excellent level of activity in the forums and IRC, which to me means that they’ve been trained well.
It’s been a while since I’ve been in the Rangers, and they tend to get a lot of flak these days even though they don’t say much themselves. I also don’t know how many weapons they get, or what kind of missions they do. I do know that activity tends to depend on the platoon leaders, so the experience varies from person to person. One of my friends, the grinch, whom I met on the Rangers IRC fought with me on a mobile mission for the Battle of Manitoba. He is now a Rangers platoon leader, and the last I looked, I had been pretty impressed by the level of activity in his platoon. These guys work hard to educate our newbies. Insulting them only discourages them.
About a month ago we had a very active bunch go through the Rangers writing articles and singing songs. It’s very different now. With the lack of war everyone is feeling bored, and even the CAF who was stationed in Spain for a week was mulling around. The Rangers being a newbie org has probably had its retention rate hurt due to current events (or lack thereof). That's still no reason to give them a hard time.
I’ve never been part of the Reserves so I can’t really say much about them. Suffice it to say the focus of the CAF is its mobile army: the CAF Regulars. If you want a true measure of CAF activity, you’d have to see the CAF IRC during a timed strike.
And no, the Rangers aren't only for newbies.
A shout out for Christian Doe who was and still is the main commander of the Rangers.
Rangers lead the way! o7

I was brought up through the Rangers, was founding member of the 45th Flying Hellfish and now reside in the 27th Northern Lights. If you ask me, the CAF has been very good to me and given me all the action I can handle. I have seen many parts of the world and the missions have been great.
CAF PRIDE!
3rd platoon represent 😃
CAF all the way!
and 26th for regs 😛 😃
I was in the Rangers 3rd Platoon. Got supplied whenever I went on IRC, just like I do now that I'm in the Regulars. The CAF really livens up the game and you get lots of weapons.
CAF FTW!!!
I enjoyed the Rangers. Was a member of the 2nd for about a month before getting called up. Got to basically help set up that platoon as the first batch of recruits there. Met quite a few people and we had our fair share of in-house competitions to keep things exciting. I never had any issues, and went up to the 11th with mixed emotions.
I had a great experience in the 6th Rangers, myself. I would recommend the Rangers and then the CAF Regulars to anyone with the drive and ambition.
Like I said in that other article, you get out of it what you put into it.
My very first night in the Rangers we had a timed strike. It was a fantastic introduction to eCanada's organized fighting forces, and I will always remember my time with the 6th Rangers platoon.
45th hellfish via rangers here, IRC is good
Props to Grinch and Lokes for Ranger training
2 weeks in the Rangers till CAF app was approved

Go Rangers 😃
Nice article Ace 😉 o7
ex 6th platoon here. great article. whether you use the rangers as a stepping stone into the CAF regulars or make the rangers your home, you'll benefit enormously from the camradarie and assistance.
A great article Ace
I met Ace it seems ages ago now. We joined up as the first set of Rangers, and started helping take back Canada. Fun times. We have fought together many times and taken part in timed strikes, all the stuff the regs get to do. I started out in the Rangers 3rd platoon as an in game private. I am now close to General.
I remember that day that Connor voluntold us and our refusal. It was a great day for the Rangers because those that declined are now platoon LT's passing on what we have learned to new recruits.
Yes we train our recruits well. And if they don't measure up to the standards the CAF wants, we wash them out. Simple as that.
But we do everything in our powers to make sure that doesn't happen. We want them to graduate. We want them to be a CAF weapon. We want them to be active in Canadian society. And we hope that the level of activity we get goes on into the regs. Nothing like new blood in a platoon to liven things up.
But you have to want to.
The Rangers is not all about ranking you up with tons of weapons.
We teach basic recruits how to move, take part in resistance wars (making sure they fight for the right side), when the best time is to use weapons, what training wars are, the order of fight, heal, work, train, how to use IRC, the forums, register their nics, the uses of an org for storing and gifting, all the things experienced players take for granted. By doing this training they have a seamless move up to the regs or reserves.
And for those of you wondering what we have been up to? Overseas missions that lasted several weeks, quick moves and hits, deception attacks, visiting lots of countries in Europe and of course fighting from home to whack the uk as part of operation teabag.
You want to have some fun? You want to be a member of the CAF or reserves. Apply for the Rangers.
I was in rangers last week.
I'm glad to know you Ace... You are the reason I stayed and made a life in eRepublik. Your probably the only person I will remember from day 1 to my last day.
Thanks buddy.
Long Live Rangers,
Long Live Canada.
Im kind of sad to have left now, BROlliance forever. 🙂
Rangers lead the way
Started in the 27th twice. Then joined the rangers and quit. then rejoined, and now part of the 4th special ops where legends were born.
high five
Rangers lead the way o7
Had a great time there myself in the 8th myself.
I was the one of the First platoon leaders and it was a very hard decision for me to leave to the CAF. I must say that the Rangers was the best experience that I have had for all of eRepublik. Me and the soldiers of the 3rd platoon were very active and I feel very accomplished to have led many young citizens to the CAF. I will never forget my time with the Rangers and may return one day. Shout-out to the 3rd Rangers!!!!! Be Proud Rangers!
p.s. Sara you mean the 3rd!
Went with the 2nd to Malaysia, back in November. I'll never forget that first day, out of the country.
Now I'm in the OMEGAS Reserves. I stayed with the Rangers much longer than I needed to, because it became my home. I'll never forget where I came from.
Ranger Pride o7
Been in the 2nd for a long time, it just never gets old!
Semi-active Ranger here.
I honestly think we've got some of the best instructors you could ask for. They are not indifferent: they are involved. They are not hardasses: they are helpful. They are not boring: they are inspiring.
I feel guilty for not being more involved and showing them as much appreciation as I feel they deserve. Thank you, Ace, for recognizing some of my own personal heroes in eRep.
Especially you, grinch. 😛
I'm in 1st platoon. Supplies aren't provided as often as they used to be; there's a definite bias towards those who are able to be on IRC at the right times. There's also a bias towards those willing to go on mobile missions, even though participation in mobile missions is not required.
But being in the Rangers has definitely helped me train faster, and it helped me save up to buy a Q5 house. Definitely a worthwhile experience.
rock on
Rangers lead the way.
Up the 6th!
LOL, Caf guys salute wrong...
I went inactive in the rangers, and dont think I'll b let back in to try again, so I havent tried. It was fun though.
