My Proudest Moment

This is an entry in Fionia's writing contest. Write one of your own to populate the news and get a chance at money!

My favorite moment in eRep is one that you probably wouldn't expect. It's not campaigning for president, election day, being picked for TERRA SG, or anything else so acclaimed. Nor is it even getting a media mogul (though that was pretty great) or reaching any given skill landmark.

My favorite moment in eRep is being selected for Deputy Secretary of Education. I wasn't particularly an aggressive or talkative person before being appointed to the position. I didn't campaign for any positions, apply in any cabinets, or act entitled to anything. I had already began posting on the old forums and writing articles, but I only recently had any good ("famous") articles.

Self-deprecation is the key to power. Or so I was thinking.

So when Colin Lantrip - fellow SEAL, purveyor of Monkey Business, and metaphorical god of war - (and/or his Chiefly Staffer, Speedcat) said they wanted me to staff the Department of Education, it was naturally one of the greatest moments of excitement I ever had in the game. It was the beginning of my climb up the media ladder and the national government, which would be my lane in the game for the rest of my career.

My only moment of trepidation was being told I would be under Rainy Sunday. The prospect of working under the prestigious SEES matron - who I viewed at the time as a daedric goddess with legions of internet trolls ready to strike me down for any errors - was terrifying to my meeker self. As such, I did what any rational being would do: dive into the work with a slavish devotion. Rainy and I's short stretch of teamwork was arguably the best period in time for any Department of Education the New World over, and I came to respect Rainy basically more than anyone else in the game.

Gee, I wonder what game Blank was playing before he wrote this.

Compare and contrast this to becoming the actual Secretary of Education, which was more bittersweet because I was replacing Rainy over some political mumbo-jumbo. It was that event that drove me to keep the DoE as independent as possible and sever the DoE from the DoI, which lorded over it at the time. It was pretty funny telling my 'superior' (not Speedy or Colin) that I was rehiring Rainy as my deputy right afterwards, though.

Until next time,
