My Candidacy For Congress!

Day 486, 16:05 Published in Germany United Kingdom by Elisa Vorimberg

Dear citizens of Germany-Austria,

I have decided to announce my candidacy for congress in Saxony.

First off, let me be clear: I will not tell you to vote for me, nor will I even refer to my competition. This article will only talk about my plans, my ideas, and my actions. It is your job as a voter to decide who is best to represent you in congress.

Why I am running:
I have decided to run for several reasons.
Firstly, I want to make a difference in the direction our country is going.
Second, several people have told me that I should become a congress member. I think that a congressperson is nothing more than a representative of the people; if you want me to represent you, then I am obligated to run. If you do elect me I will represent your interests, not mine.
To make that all the more clear I intend to ask you what you think about a few laws. I will not bumble along doing what I think you want without asking you every once in a while!
From what I’ve seen this is a totally unique view on the way congress should work. If I am elected congress will no longer be a shady hidden part of the national forum where citizens can’t comment. I will, primarily through this newspaper, keep you informed and involved in the discussion.
And I will represent your interests, your needs, and your dreams.

Economic Policy:
I believe that a good economy is all about the average/new worker. Here are 3 main ideas that I will work towards if I am elected.

Competition- Competition among businesses is the founding principal of capitalism (which is very much what we have here). In order for businesses to be successful they must be able to compete with other people’s wages and market prices. There are always a few companies that try to offer minimum wage and try to sell their products at a very expensive price. Luckily, there are other companies that offer higher wages and cheaper prices. Those companies will have success and will be rewarded. That is what will make life easier for workers. Your employer has to keep a high salary or you will quit and go to another company. The companies that you buy from must keep prices cheap or you won’t buy from them.
Increasing the competitiveness of our market will make life easier for you.

Favorable Balance of Trade- This is a very old Mercantilist idea. Every item that is produced here and sold somewhere else represents a net gain for our economy. Our goods are being shipped elsewhere, where they then give us money. So in the en😛
Our workers get paid, another country gets an item, and our companies get paid. That means that the value of that item has been taken from the other country’s economy and put into ours. Over time this will build up into a massive gain for our economy.
Right now we are exporting just under twice as much as we are importing. I believe that is responsible for our recent economic success, and I want to make it continue.

Health- Lately many q3 and q4 companies have been hiring new skill-0 workers at salaries far too low to support q3 or q4 food. I have gotten desperate messages from many citizens on the brink of starvation through my wellness initiative (http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/free-food-for-those-in-need--753160/1/20), and every single one of them was working for one of those companies. While I do believe that companies should have freedoms, the instant that they abuse them and start killing our new citizens I draw the line. I think that the only way to really combat this is either to raise minimum wage, or add information about how higher quality companies affect wellness into the new citizen message. I would prefer the latter and that will be one of my main goals if I am elected.

Foreign Policy:
On this, I’m not 100% what the best course of action is.
With regard to PEACE, ATLANTIS, ESA, or neutrality. I believe that we should do whatever is needed to guarantee the continued existence of Germany-Austria. That means that I will not support joining PEACE or ATLANTIS unless it is likely that we can’t survive without joining one. I would much rather have Germany-Austria lead the way in creating a third alliance “European Social Alliance”(similar to PEACE or ATLANTIS, but a separate power that can balance power) or in creating a “European Union” (similar to the German-Austrian union but encompassing many of our neighbors including Belgium, Netherlands, Czech, and perhaps others). But of course, if we stand a better chance of surviving is joining PEACE or ATLANTIS, I will vote in favor of doing so.

Concluding Statements:
As shown by the links, I have done pretty much everything I can do without an official congressional title, from helping out new members, to raising awareness of economic and foreign events. I am now ready for congress, and I think it is in your best interests.
Now I leave you to make your decision.
