Minimum wage in america
The dark lord
Minimum wage:
Minimum wage in The United States Of America is far to low for people to set a proper standard of living. Take into consideration the cost of food. For the lowest quality of food at the cheapest price possible, the cost is roughly $ 1.30. Now take in the minimum wage... A whopping $1.00, am i the only person in this world who sees a major problem in this? I propose that we should raise the minimum wage, Enough to make sure every American has food on the table and money for a rainy day if you get my meaning, but not so much as to adversely affect our economy... In that sense i am proposing a $ 0.50 - $ 0.75 increase. Is this not logical. If this is done, every American will become a contributing member to our society.
Thank you

This is an argument that has been put to rest long ago. New citizens are given $5 upon their arrival in the New World, and after six days of work they will be at skill level 2, which should in turn raise their wages to an acceptable level.

Almost everyone you see has suffered through the minimum wages and is still here. If you raise those wages businesses will counter by raising their prices in order to make a profit. These prices will not only be on weapons, moving tickets, etc., but also on food.
The best way to get over the hump is to work everyday. Soon enough you will move up in skill and will be able to apply for a higher paying job, or will get a raise from your company. It will pass, and you will look back at it and remember.
actually this is not a new point to be brought up. The minimum wage only matters in its relation to the market wage. Right now that wage it above minimum wage, with plenty of Q1 jobs paying 1.12-125. Of course the only for zero skill workers. most zero skill workers are new citizens. they get a new citizen fee. That is paid with a real cost to the us taxpayers. Plus there is a program to help give food to new citizens.
Also, as a general rule, raising minimum wage does not increase employment. in fact it decreases it.
Ok, i must admit, i was unaware this arguement had been put to rest, i am rather new myself, having just started about two weeks back, and thank you the librarian, it is nice to have such supportive people read my paper... If you don't like what i have to say, don't read it okay? And Joshua, i agree with you, but i am just addressing a concern i had when i was a little less experienced that i thought i should bring up to help the newer people... I am not trying to cause trouble but to address a potential problem for less experienced citizens...
Interesting point Ryan, i must admit i did not take that into consideration when i posted this article... I think i just made a complete fool of myself... but it does spark an interesting debate, I can see how raising minimum wage would adversely affect employment rates, but considering how many jobs are available at any given moment, i find it incredible anyone would really notice that...
@Dark Lor😛 No worries. I had the same thoughts when I first started. I would just advise newer players to check out the eUSA forums and to enter the chat rooms first. You can find answers to this and other questions there. Usually this same topic comes up a few times per week, if not daily.
Once again the best way to handle it is to give it time. If you are having a hard time join a political party (if you can) or the military (National Guard is a good one!). These organizations have ways to help you out early on.
Luckily i am already in a political party, and i am going to be joining the national guard shortly... My short term ambitions amount to getting a house, raising my skills, and saving up my money until i can fund a campaign for a spot in congress, hopefully in the near future i could make it into congress, but i know very well that wont be for a long time, i need to get supporters, and prove myself worthy of their votes... I made this newspaper in part to help with that, and in part to have a way to contribute ideas to American society...
@ Dark Lor😛 Sounds like you have a plan, which is good. Keep to it, give it some time, and make friends. You will get there. Good luck!
Thank you sir, i plan to give it my best, but in the end it is the ordinary man who i must convince i am worthy, and that is just what i am now, your every day American citizen of erepublik...
I'm also a very recent citizen, having joined 10 days after you. Once I made it to level 5 and took part in the war games in Baja everything was plain sailing. The war games are a huge benefit because you can increase your wellness from 40 to 80 in a day. That's worth more than a small increase in the minimum wage because it improves your chances of generous raises from your employer (thank you boss).
