Military Mahem: Opinion of a Citizen Soldier

Day 1,235, 21:36 Published in USA USA by Joshua Hoss

What… The… Hell… Seriously?

No point in rehashing. The eUSA is at war with itself. While being invaded. Great. Brilliant. Awesome to the max. Everyone should know by now that an argument erupted between a few groups (Congress, military, politicos, etc) that led to a complete mess. We now have multiple sides blaming the other for the disaster, two “national” militaries, and a ton of upset people. Seriously, do we need this right now?

Who is to blame?

Everyone. That’s right, everyone. Congress wants more information. They should get it. But there are better ways of going about it than the way they chose. JCS wants autonomy and funding. There needs to be some accountability, it is government’s money after all. Militia’s want the military’s funding. They aren’t the military. You all need to sit down, shut the hell up, and take a dose of common sense.

I personally do not give two shits about Congress. Nor did I swear loyalty to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS). I’m here to defend the eUSA by fighting for it. That’s where I stand. I know others feel the exact same. I’m sick of the chest pounding. I’ve been in Congress. I’ve been on the JCS. Hell, I’ve even been President of some backwater country. None of that is anything to pound your chest about. Congrats, you got elected in an online game, or you lead a group of online people in online fighting. Good job. How does that relate to the real world again?

How can we fix this mess?

I’m going to be simple. Get rid of the problem. The JCS. The Politicos. Everyone who can’t put their ego aside and solve the problem.

That’s right, you heard a current military guy come out against the JCS. Why? Because there is no way in hell that the JCS should ever have taken the military “private”. That choice was not their choice to make. They are the caretakers and guardians of the military, not the Gods. For far too long the JCS has tried to make military policy instead of enforce it. Yes there is a difference. The military is supposed to fight for and defend the eUSA, not decide who the eUSA’s enemies and friends are. In short, and in military lingo: Shut the F*** Up and Fight.

What about the politicos? Get rid of them. Who? Everyone who has an oversized ego blocking progress. That includes the four from the “leaked” log brought out on the eUSA forum. While their initial goal may not have been to alienate the military their current emotions make them a hindrance rather than help. Trying to talk to someone who holds a grudge against you usually doesn’t go well. The same thing applies here – trying to fix the problem when seated with someone who helped cause the problem (and feels no remorse) isn’t going to work. Don’t even try it. Get rid of them and get in someone who can work on the issue objectively.

What about this “new” military?

I have to admit, when I first heard about it I was interested. If the “old” military was going to become a militia something new would be needed to replace it. After all, this all started from complaints about the “old” military not being accountable to the government.

Once again, let me be blunt. This “new” military isn’t going to work. Why? Conflict of interest. President Emerick today announced the birth of this new organization. In it he announced the new “leaders” of this military. You have a General who has been very outspoken about the “old” military and a QM who was involved in the “leaked” log that involved getting rid of the “old” military. Then there is the strong militia presence. Conflict of interest anyone? Uh, yea. That would be like real life congress funding our real military through the Blackwater USA company. Brilliant.

If you want to replace the “old” military wouldn’t it make sense to replace it with something that might work? Something that might entice people from the “old” to join the “new”? Instead this “new” military looks like a blatant attempt to stick it to the “old” military.

What’s the Difference?

There is way too much black and white thinking going on right now. The military does not equal the JCS. I’m sorry, it doesn’t. Soldiers follow the JCS because that is who is in charge. But that doesn’t make the JCS representational of the military. I’m willing to bet if you could poll the military and get answers without JCS repercussions you would find strong sentiment against the JCS decision to become a militia.

There are politicos who are talking sense as well. Yes the national military should be more open in funding/damage/organizational requests (to trusted parties at least). Yes the government should be able to review the military and critique them. But do you really want congress deciding who deserves a promotion in each and every branch?

End Game

Unfortunately this just makes us weaker as a country. You now have a divided military. One is being run by a group of people that decided to take their toys and leave because they were asked to share. The other one is led by a group of people that were deeply involved in causing the divide. Neither side is going to compromise or work with the other.

So get rid of them. Start over. Talk to the people behind the scenes, the soldiers, the voters. Stop putting so much power into the few who prove that they can’t handle it, and move it to those who defend it daily.

Grow up people. It is a game, stop power tripping.

P.S. – I’m sure this will earn me some flak from both the JCS and Politicos. Nobody likes being told “you are doing it wrong”. Problem is, you are. Both of you.
