Meet the Reform Party - GameChanger (04)

Day 1,951, 10:12 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Cygnus X1

“Meet the UKRP” is a series of articles I’m going to be writing this term, interviewing both old and new Reform members, finding out why they love the party and why YOU should join!

Here's number 4, thanks for reading!

Today it was GameChanger’s turn. GC is a great fella, he’ll run ‘Murica one day!

1: Why did you join the UK Reform Party?

For most of my eRep life, I was an ESO member. When ESO started to go downhill (late 2012), I started looking for a new party to join. Joshua Whelan, my boss at the MoHA, had been helping jumpstart a new party on the eUK scene, One Vision. I stayed at One Vision for a few months, but it became clear that the party was not a good fit for me. It catered too much towards players who were just in it for the tanks and the benefits. As such, it was very inactive, and not very fun. When 1V started heading downhill, about a month ago, I despaired. Where would I go? What group could I join? I asked people from several different parties about their parties. Thedarkace talked to me about UKRP. I was apprehensive at first, because UKRP was always the oldfag party, and was not even in the top 5 at the time. However, I overcame those doubts and was convinced that UKRP was the best place for me.

2: What made you stay?

There are a few things I love about UKRP. Firstly, the IRC activity. I thoroughly enjoy IRC, and talking to all the different people on it. UKRP's private chat in particular, almost always has someone on to talk to. I was also introduced to the game Supremacy 1914 a few days into my membership. I love the game, and being able to talk to people on IRC about it is a huge plus.

The biggest reason I stayed is because of the people, and how the party is run. UKRP doesn't have a cadre of high ranking members who are revered and are always in charge and controlling things. UKRP is run by a large group, a mix of new players (me, Cyg, Butjam) and old players who have come back to the game (Sir Rex, Rob). We all work together to have fun and be the best we can be.

3: Where do you see the party in the near future?

I don't see UKRP taking third or higher any time soon, if only because of the massive gap in members between us and NE. Unless something major happens, I see us staying in third. I think a good goal for the party would be to get some CP candidates running, and hopefully elected

Another thing we need to keep running is recruitment. We don't offer big checks and big, grand promises. We offer a warm, helpful community that is boatloads of fun. From what we have seen, people are choosing the latter. We've grown, while many other top 5 parties have shrunk.

4: Do you see yourself leading the party in the future?

Erm.... That's sort of a loaded question, tbh. I am still fairly new to UKRP, and there are just so many qualified people for the PP spot. However, it is something I have considered doing in the future. I'd like to think I can bring fresh ideas to the table, and help improve the party. THe nice thing about UKRP is that you don't HAVE to be in the PP spot to do that. You just have to be active and have good ideas, and they will be implemented.

5: Do you have any plans or schemes that the party could implement to make us better or more popular?

I think these articles are great. UKRP has a "rep" of being an oldfag party, with stale ideas and people. Obviously, nothing could be further from the truth. Shattering this illusion will do UKRP a great deal of good in the long run. Other parties do big food and weapons drives, on both sides of the political spectrum. We take great pride in the fact that we aren't constantly trying to buy people's membership with money and presents. Our members are members because they want to be part of the community. This pays off, seeing as we had the 2nd highest turnout rate for any party in the PP elections. Also, I really like our Podcasts that we do. Not only do they provide advertisement for ourselves, but they also allow members of UKRP to know each other better, and establish better connections.

5: Finally, give new players a reason why they should join the UKRP 😉

Gosh, it seems like this entire article I've been giving reasons to join. If I had to narrow it down though, I think it is the community. There are just so many people to meet and talk to. There isn't a hierarchy where 3 people make all the decisions in the party. It is a party for the active player, run by active players.
