First I would like to say as promised, now delivered... The Wordsmiths are publishing their first edition.

Our logo 😃

That's right folks in this edition you can find interesting stories and analysis. Now first I would like to present you our first story. This story is about the creation of this guild, an explanation who we are and

what is our job, and it's written by Jon Malcom. Enjoy...

I can neither confirm nor deny this is Bia Pandora...but I confirm it.

The time time is 1950 and we are in America. You are a young boy and you jump on your bed and start reading a pulp fiction story entitled I, Robot by a man known as Issac Asimov.
Your eyes get bigger as you read The Three Laws of Robotics and your imagination starts ticking with excitement.
Oh how I long for just a few minutes in your shoes, yes the Russians could fry you with a nuclear bomb but you are holding history! You are holding something that will be so valuable to us in the future my friend, you are holding something akin to a Stradivarius violin or a original painting by Monet.
You hold someones works, thoughts, ideas, desires, emotions. You may be reading a book but in all sense you are listening to the village storyteller weave an intricate web of adventure.
An idea by XxBusinessMogulexX has now transformed into a group of writers.
‘Tis a powerful idea indeed. Why not take some of the writers of eRepublik and put them together?

Well he invited us and after one loss and one gain we are now together.
Here they are in no order:
XxBusinessMogulexX, code001, Narkon Des, Jon Malcom, Dirty Scarlet Silverbeard, Cody Caine, Kooguy, portcolumbus, Gnilraps, TomT ,Thedillpickl, louis flood, Rama Samseil, and FreedomFightr.

We exist not to gather your votes but rather to gather your hearts. For you see if I have that then you will always vote and subscribe but even then I want you to look at us like a magazine you got in the mail and you can’t wait to read the next story. In fact you crave more. You want more.
You need more and because of those inner desires of the heart we try to write more.
That is our goal: Make you love the writing.

Just like Isaac Asimov, Stephen King,Audrey Niffenegger, Mary Shelley, Brad Thor, Richard Heinlen etc we get to join that list of amazing writers that goes on forever but now reader think of your luck you get to hold our history and you get to read our tales first!
They all had to start somewhere.
We started here.

We are The Wordsmiths.
Don't forget to listen to Jon Malcom's radio JMS!

Now we continue with something else. This piece is written by Thedillpickl. And this piece is about this

quiet congress term. Again enjoy...

Hi Kids!

It's me, Thedillpickl
here. I wrote this to let you know that none of our Senators are a
bunch of brain dead zombies that don't have a clue why they are in
Congress. I would never say, for example, that I consider them a bunch
of wannabees that just ran for the lulz. It wouldn't be proper to
suggest that they were elected solely by way of popularity and did
nothing to earn the privilege of being a member of Congress. It just
wouldn't be proper for me to say those things, so I won't.

Now that my opinion of the 47th Congress is clear, let me say that
Congress is not an easy job. I was there twice, I know. But gee whiz
guys, there has to be someone who wants to discuss something of even
minor importance. Did you have platforms? Why did you want to run in
the first place? Don't get pissed at me for pointing out the obvious!

The following comments are the responses of YOUR Congressmen. Eleven
Senators that I felt represented the spectrum of players involved here
were contacted. There were newfags, oldfags and nofags. I included
military and non-military. People from various cliques and parties.
Out of eleven, five responded. One asked not to be quoted, so I will
summarize, in my own words, the sentiment expressed. The other four
are quoted following that.

Off the recor😛

"Congress' activity goes up and down. Right now it is pretty
inactive. There's not much to be done. After the invasion is over, and
we have some regions back, there will be time to look into stuff."

Tim Col:

"Congress is a lot more different than I thought it would be. I
enjoy knowing a little more about what is going on, but there does not
seem to be much going on. Most of the government is run through the
President and his advisers, and Congress is more or less the "Yes
men." I think because of this, many Congress members do what they are
told and that's about it. There is a lack of activity on the forums
and via PM, at least compared to what I thought there would be. There
seems to be a good amount of leadership and ability in Congress, but
because our budget is limited and people lack significant want or need
to invest in improving the eUS, Congress is down in activity. If this
keeps up, Congress might as well not even exist. I want to see more
activity and a better opportunity to serve eUS, whether that means a
change in the way things are run or the way we spend USD. There is a
lot that can be done to do this, we just need people in Congress
willing to do it."

Henry Arundel (Pfeiffer):

"I'd like to see somethings done in Congress. When I was Speaker, I
would message each inactive Congressman (after 4+ days) once, to
remind him about his job, and then leave him alone after that. I'd
take note of who didn't respond and then work to make sure they didn't
return. Really, we can't stop Congress from sucking. It always has,
it's just so much more visible now that the game mechs are stripped
down and everything is laid bare."

George Armstrong Custer:

"As for the "lack of activity" cited, what little may be even
discussed by Congressmen is quite locked down, out of our control, by
people in appointed positions. taxes are the only thing Congress might
control, but they're already decided and we have no say in the
matter."

Portcolumbus:

"I'm not sure why we're so quiet, but at least we're not pissing
anyone off right?"

Thank you gentlemen for responding.

My Final Thoughts

This is a game, meant to be enjoyed. It makes no sense to play
halfheartedly. If you are RP'ing a fighter, pay gold for 'training' to
achieve great strength, join an elite MU and then never fight, you are
doing it wrong. If you are RP'ing a businessman, pay gold to create
many companies, hire no employees and never produce anything, you are
doing it wrong. If you are RP'ing a newspaperman ~pickle looks at
himself~, pay gold to buy a newspaper and never write anything, you
are doing it wrong.

The bottom line to this report? If you are RP'ing a politico, spend
weeks or even months building up political savvy, getting connections,
proving you can get things done and never change anything (even offer
an opinion or two) while in Congress, you are doing it wrong. To be
honest, there is a bit of discussion about the budget, but don't just
kick the can down the road.

Now we will continue with something completely different from the previous piece, it's about business and it's written by Narkon Des. Enjoy...

Is the eRepublik economy a mirror of the real world economy?

This question had been nagging my mind lately, and to be honest, I figured it’d be an interesting result. With that in mind, let’s proceed to take a look at the current economy of the eUS and the current economy of the real US.

We’ll begin in 2008, early 2008, before the recession. The economy of eRepublik was pretty fair, and held that way into early 2009, which is when the real world economy in the US took a nice little nose dive. Not too much later, the eUS took a nice little nose dive as well. With gold prices slowly rising, from 70 USD per one gold to a little over 140 USD per one gold. A 70 USD increase that today we would consider only marginal, back then seemed very large indeed.

Flash forward to late 2009-early 2010. Several new features have been implemented by the admins, and just like the new additions to the real world US, people weren’t exactly thrilled about it. Tack on those couple events the admins throw out to us occasionally, just like the tax breaks and refunds the government does, and you have an almost mirror image of the real world. Are you finding this a little eerie? I know I did.

Moving forward, let’s move to our current situation. Mid to late 2011. Gold prices continued to increase for us, as inflation struck, and again, new features had left a deep toll on players who had previously been owners of Hospital, National Defense, and Moving Ticket industries. I’m still searching for a real life example on this one. The closest I’ve come so far is the announcement of Bankruptcy for Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. It’s bit of a stretch, but you get the idea on this one.

Back to where we left of though. Gold prices continue to increase and the USD slowly begins to buy you less. The real US has its’ resources stretched thin, and for us, our military is stretched thin as well. Just like how China outnumbers us nearly 3:1, so too, do the Serbs, our virtual China in this case.

That being said, just as our businesses move out of the US to get out of taxes, our businesses, begin to skip out on taxes en masse. Using the tried and true Donation method, now even easier due to the fact that businesses now share the player’s monetary accounts. Again, do you see the similarities?

Getting really close up to our time period, we’ll take a close look at the past 2-3 months. Starting with Gold being at 600 USD per one gold. It was around this time that America nearly defaulted on its national debt, and was subjected to a credit downgrade. Almost instantly after that, as the American dollar lost value, so did the eUSD. That of course, led to higher gold prices, taking us to the point where we sat at around 750-800 for a while. Then when the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost just above 500 points in one day, the price of gold went up again. Next, when Greece had its starting riots, and people in the stock market were apprehensive about the future, causing stocks to fall again, so too did the buying power of our precious USD. Then, more recently, when the Italian Prime Minister decided to step down, and the bailouts for Greece were approved, stock markets recovered a bit, and our gold prices dropped out of 4 digits, and back down into 3, falling nearly 60 USD from where they were previously.

So, what all causes this effect? Well, I’ll let you in on a little clue. Watch the prices of Gold for when you go to buy it. Right now it is 33.93 for 65 gold, when buying in USD. A few days ago, when gold was worth nearly 980 for one Gold, 65 gold cost 34.18 in USD. See the relation? Of course, since the Euro is still stronger than the Dollar, it is still numerically less to buy in Euros, though for us American residents, it’s the same cost no matter what. So, my conclusion that I draw from this look into the eRepublik economy, is that Gold prices, and by extension, the value of our USD, are in fact directly related to the American, if not Global economy. The better we do in the real world, the better we do in the e-world.

And right before the end we have a piece written by Cody Caine on topic "What is a great politician?"

Enjoy...

A great politician is?
It is hard to define a great politician to a standard that everyone will agree with, one can say a great politician is one that wins a lot, but that could also be a sign of party power or even better funding. To some it could be a politician who is good with speeches and words, but those could be written by someone else. These skills and resource alignments only cover what makes a good politician, not what makes a great politician. I asked my friend and current eUSA congressmen Portcolumbus for his take on the subject and this is what he sai😛
“I think what makes a great politician is someone who cares for their country, and cares for their fellow man. You have to be willing to sacrifice your own time, your own labor, to make the lives of the people much better. You must always put service above self, and never give in to special interests or corruption.”
I agree with this statement, even though today most politicians bend to the will of party, to the pressure of those who donated and funded the campaign, these actions are exactly why they are not great politicians, as a politician you should work for the will of those who voted you into office, you should hold true to your promises, and that is why I think politicians of today are not that great.
But not all politicians fail today, in the eUSA I see Gnilraps as a hardworking politician, my friend port is a very honest politician, in eAustralia another friend of mine lancer450 is a highly successful politician, all three of them could be great with continued work.

For the end something funny prepared by code0011. Enjoy...
