MDU: Tommy meets the French

Day 406, 04:43 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by MDU Press Office

The following is an interview with French minister Matthieu Bonne on French-British relations and the future in Europe, at a time when the war with France has been stopped, but battles continue against PEACE in Argentina.

Interview conducted by Tommy Tommasino.

MDU: Do you feel peace with eUK can be maintained - what do you hope for the short term future of eUK-eFrance relations?

MB: Yes, even if i would have preferred to sign a treaty to make this peace a bit stronger. I think both our countries should work to rebuild themselves, UK to absorb its big recruitment wave, and France to revamp its economy and reach 2k-3k players as soon as possible. So the balance between us would be more fair and less people would think of war.

MDU: What is your attitude to eBelgium? Do you think they will stay separate from eUK and forge their own path?

MB: We had two goals when we attacked Belgium: push the UK government to stop the war (looks like it succeeded) and give the Belgians the opportunity to choose again. We don't want to force them to leave UK, and i think most people have understood that. What will they do ? I don't know yet. There's a lot of debate between them and i do my best to keep France out of this talks so they can feel free to decide. Whatever they choose, if they want help from France, we'll be happy to provide it if we can. Maybe they can be a diplomatic bridge between us, who knows ? 🙂

MDU: What is your opinion on the long-term futures of Atlantis/Peace relations?

MB: Well, it seems more and more obvious that Atlantis is going to split (please don't think i'm biased...), Romania acts for its own purpose (as always), USA are torn between theory and facts, PMV is commanding Spain again, UK and Norway look wondering if they should pay for their allies' behaviour... We have similar problems in PEACE (some countries wanted war in Argentina, some didn't), we do our best to stay together and find strength in solidarity, but if the big Atlantis threat splits in parts, we'll lose our raison d'être... So, maybe both alliances will create smaller ones, but i won't make a bet on it as long as Atlantis will attack France 😉

MDU: Some have suggested the dissolving of the two alliances. What do you think of this?

MB: Well, it's my job to keep PEACE working together so i won't say i wish both alliances to dissolve. But if it happens, it will probably mean more fun in the game, and more sincere alliances perhaps. So at least i don't think it would be a bad thing.

MDU: What do you think it will take to stabilize Europe and bring peace?

MB: eRepublik is a game about war: you cannot be pragmatic and pacifist at the same time here. The last weeks brought a lot of good and bad things, but at least the game was lively. Though, needing wars doesn't mean wanting slaughter in Europe. I think the next weeks should be the opportunity to free occupied countries and fight for raw materials here or there (i wish the admins could create more countries - even without population). What can we do so the wars aren't too big and not in Europe ? Well, be friends (again), first. Diplomacy. And have some common projects together, companies, etc. People who whine about "my country doesn't have THIS raw mat, booo" haven't understood anything: all countries MUST have weaknesses if we want successful cooperation and less wars. When a country has everything in its hands or eats its little neighbours to have it, you can see war coming, because they'll feel overconfident and unstoppable. No need to give examples, right ? 🙂
