May 5th eUSA Presidential Debate
Not Done Never
A eUSA TOWN HALL DEBATE
We're only two days away from the May 5th Presidential Election.
This is your chance to put your questions to the people who might be in charge of our great country.
For those that don't know, here are the candidates (Prez/VP):
Scrabman/Moishe
Kyle321n/Jewitt
NoneSuch/Claire Littleton
The floor is open to all questions. Ask them by commenting on this article, and candidates will be answering them by commenting as well.
We ask that everyone keep an open mind and understand this is a place of intelligent discussion, not hateful bickering.
Further, we ask that non-eUSA citizens refrain from asking questions as this is meant as a service to our voters to help them decide who to vote for. Thank you for your consideration.
VOTE THIS UP TO INCREASE THE SIZE OF THE DEBATE.
And with that, let's begin with the first question:
What do you think is the single most important issue facing our country right now?
Comments
What's the most important issue?
Well I'm not totally sure if it's the MOST important, but it's definitely one of the top 2 or 3. I'd say it's the government communicating effectively, thoroughly, and honestly with its citizens. We've been on the verge of war for....3 days now? I'd kind of like to know why.
As many people know I'm on IRC way too much. That means that if you've got a question, I'll probably be available to answer it. Even if it's absolutely crucial that a bit of information not be released I'll do my best to at least give you some sort of idea as to what's going on.
i feel like i have no idea what the government is planning on doing in the future. this has been reinforced by the recent attack on Portugal that wasn't quite an attack. I realize the need for sec racy but i believe the public should be informed. as president will you keep the public knowledge alive?
I didn't want to delete my comment earlier, but I'd like to add to it.
Just from what I've heard around the IRC, in the forums, and in articles, this is THE biggest issue. I will represent the people, therefore, it is my biggest issue as well. I'm a representative, so it's what I do.
yes Oirad's point is important. how would you work on gov transperancy while obviously not compromising national security?
Oirad, if you haven't I suggest you read my last article. It was basically dedicated to letting people know that I intend to keep the eUS informed at all times.
I feel like this debate is going to be a bit awkward if it takes place on this article, as questions and responses get all muddled up and out of order... all the same, here goes one:
If you were to become president, in the absence of any vague and as-yet unrealized secret plans that the government may or may not currently be working on, what concrete steps would you take as President to bring war games back to the eUS?
@Boochdizzle: If elected, and assuming that Scrabman doesn't leave me with a war on my hands, I start by PMing all the allies that already border us. Chances are that at least a few would take the offer. If not, Then I suppose it would have to be an option to ask the remaining countries that border us, allies or not.
Do all of the candidates know that this debate is going on?
@ Fingies, Kyle does. Scrab declined to partake.
I'm about to turn in for the night. Just thought I'd let you all know so you don't think I just stopped answering for no reason. I'd also like to thank Not Done Never for doing this, hopefully more people see it and comment.
See, this is the problem with this article, kyle needs to be able to catch up and respond....
What do each of the candidates plan to do about our recent problems with national security?
With the tax cuts being made by Congress on food, gifts, and tickets, and their apparent unwillingness to offset the cuts with tax increases on weapons, how will you balance the budget? What programs are most likely to be cut or reduced?
I realize that Scrabman is busy, but there really should be a debate between all three candidates...
In RL, candidates generally spend way too much time campaigning (instead of governing), but as a recent arrival to the eUnited States, I definitely feel like there needs to be more information out there before I choose. I still can't predict how things would be even slightly different if the President changed.
Hi, I'm Ierome from the Democratic Party, the same party that Jamarcus is from and we work closely together. The Democratic Party has a large number of programs that we would like to create when we get our shot at the presidency. This month however, we seemed to have lost that shot before the Election, Will you look at Programs that regular eAmericans have called on for insight on how to best lead this country.
(also if you win i would love to get an interview being Public Relations Director of the DeP ^.^)
@Gaul ze gaul: thats a good point. think of this debate as a beta. next month ill try to make it more official.
This question is for both Senators Kyle and NoneSuch.
If elected how do you plan to adress the growing trend of partisan politics that are currentle driving our nation further apart?
@Tom McDougal: People went snooping around because of a massive lack of communication between the government and the public. That is why we have articles out there speculating and pointing fingers. I plan on communicating as much as I can with the public and will let them know all that I can without giving any implication information. I'm hoping that will satisfy their crave for information and thus leave the population content.
@Andra2000x: We're actually at a surplus right now. These minor tax cuts that Congress has been passing this week aren't going to be changing tax revenue as much as you might think. I'll keep an eye on government spending though and make sure that we never fall into the negatives.
@Ierome D. Adams: I'd love to see some of these programs you all have set up. If they don't take too much out of the budget I don't see why we wouldn't implement them anyway. And if you want to be the Public Relations Director of the DeP then go for it. While I kind of wanted to keep party politics out of government I don't see any harm in letting you just give me your party's views on the issues.
@Jamarcus: Well for one I won't be threatening parties to endorse me. If you don't know what I'm talking about, ask any Libertarian out there right now. I really don't care about partisanship and I sort of wished that this game didn't require it. But this game does require it so it's something that we're all going to have to live with. To be honest, I don't want to be the mediator every time two parties decide to start bickering. Unfortunately if I have to settle some petty dispute between parties then that's just what I'll have to do. I won't favor one party over another and will have to look at the issue on a case by case basis.
I'm new but I want to know what my elected officals are going to help people like me who train with the Army? will we go to war soon I hope not but if we do who will it be with?
We are asking the same question, logan, and we are your elected officials, lol.
What will you guys do to increase government transparency?
Smily: I refer you to this article I jsut wrote: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/a-vice-presidential-view-4-nonesuch-littleton-4-may-792672/1/20" target="_blank">http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/a-vi[..]/1/20 it explains it in full.
What are your views on the war games; something that must try to be avoided or an essential part of the growing of the country into a world superpower?
So this is turning out to be a NoneSuch/Claire interview. At least we know what to expect from them!
What will you do for the military?
