Marcus Suridius for eIreland President - Economics Manifesto

Day 1,230, 13:44 Published in Ireland Ireland by Sean MacDiarmata

Citizens of Ireland,

Right now, thanks to the various built-in changes brought on by the Admins, the economy is pretty much in the toilet, and there's no sense in pretending that one man in one term can revitalise the economy of Ireland when this is an eGlobal issue. If you look through the exchange rates of local currencies for gold around the world you'll find there isn't a huge amount of difference nation to nation in terms of what people are getting for their hard-earned (or bought) gold.

Where the differences really show through is in the price of finished goods, and in some regards we're not doing so badly. Our Q5 weapons are price-wise fairly close to countries like eCanada and eUS, being relatively cheap compared to some others, but similarly our Q5 houses are significantly more than those elsewhere. For our citizens, naturally, it's better if our goods are cheaper but for our businessmen and women this is worrying; with goods selling close to the cost of manufacture, or even at or below cost, there's little incentive to employ anyone when you're having to pay in wages what could even be more than your profit. That would be fine if everyone could afford their own companies but it leaves newer and poorer citizens at a considerable disadvantage long-term when it comes to the job market.

I'm not going to lie and say I have the magic solution to this problem, particularly now that citizens can sell stock they've bought elsewhere without even owning a company and managers can work at all their own companies every day. But, what I do have, is a Minister of Finance with a huge wealth (no pun intended) of experience in the department and a great working knowledge of economics and in-game mechanics who will be in place this month to analyze our situation and make the best possible decisions as to how we should proceed. As I said, most every country is in the mire with this-- but, with my MoF in place, Ireland will come through my term in office as fiscally healthy as possible.

The man who'll help us do this, ladies and gentlemen, is Dubhthaigh. I have complete faith in him and anyone who knows him at all knows that he is more than capable of doing the job.

I am accepting applications for the deputy position as of now.

I'm also hoping to form a small committee with economically-minded citizens from other countries to see if it might be possible for us to work together to mutually improve each other's situations. I have already begun to reach out to noted economists with this in mind.

I shall be releasing my government minister list but I have chosen two people so far.

As mentioned above, Dubhthaigh will be the Minister of Finance and one of my Ministers of Defence will be Reactionist. I believe Reactionist has worked his socks off this month and deserves a chance to continue his role as MoD.

As I said I will post my minister list tomorrow, as of now id ask all Irish citizens to read and vote up the IA orders - IA Orders

Thanks for reading and if you haven't already read my Military and Foreign Affairs article here it is Defence and Foreign Affairs
