Today is my 2nd Erepublik birthday. I have literally been on this game since BETA. I wanted to originally write an article today explaining some of my favourite things about erepublik, but from all of the hatred going on lately in eCanada it just didn't seem appropriate.

I'm not even just talking about the Project Mayhem incident. For the past 2-3 months the mentality of eCanadians has shifted. Instead of finding helpful, energetic, friendly people on the IRC (instant chat relay) you find angry, trolling, aggressive individuals. I've been an admin on our IRC channels for over a year and I have never seen it come to this point and stay here for so long.

Just because you have a screen in front of you and not a person doesn't mean its ok for you to just belittle them.

We used to be such a close community. I feel ashamed to even use that word to describe the general population of eCanada right now. While there are still various groups that are thriving, eCanada as a whole is not. This change did not happen over night and has been happening gradually over time. I can't and won't blame this shift into darkness on Project Mayhem or anything that had to do with those events because honestly we've been through a lot worse and this has been going on for much longer than any of the events to do with it.

I miss signing unto the IRC to hopeful people with fun stories and happy smiley emoticons. I miss seeing the generosity of others. I miss seeing the bonds of friendship on Erepublik. I miss you eCanada.

In Beta the elite was accepted by the community at large because there was little else to offer.

Once the Boomers arrived they were run out so throughly that there was no one left to fight. So the Boomers settled down and made friends until they formed the new elite.

This would be the time when the new Elite would be run out if we had a new generation strong enough to do so.

Bruck is correct. Though its never been as extreme since beta, that cycle does and always will go on. Codas point is still valid though, the community, and the fun of this game, has degenerated. We've always had corruption. But never this kind of malicious abuse. And IRCs always had its trolls, but it always used to be 99% of the people were friendly, sober, and helpful. i dont know whats happening, but frankly im glad ive dropped my activity.

and Coda, I celebrated my 2 year birthday a short while ago too. feels strange being so old, doesnt it? 😃

And yes I totally agree with what Coda has said, eCanada is not the same as before....
I remember in Beta and start of V1, most of people who left their eCountries would come to eCanada for its very friendly community and society... Not anymore...

Listen to your elders... I also have been there for more than 2 years, I think it's now been 2 years and 3 months...
Even though we have conquered the UK and everything, I consider we are now at our lowest point ever...

We have NO DIGNITY now... I can nearly not trust anyone in here... I used to have friends, a LOT, trustable friends.... most of them are gone because of what has become, others have shown they are not trustworthy and has committed actions I wouldn't have imagined them doing it... I am now left with a very small circle of good eFriends...

Project Mayhem is the consequence of this society change... Look at what we've done... WAKE UP PEOPLE!

People like saltydog, and Jbdivinus, and those who like to act smart and tough on the irc and boost their own ego has destroyed this community.

There are people who try to have honest debates, but there are others who troll because it's "fun", most likely because if saltydog would lose the "I don't take anything seriously because I'm wayyy to cool for that stuff" and have a serious debate, it would open them up to either a loss, or being trolled in the same manner that they troll others. It makes them lose that shield of invulnerability and "superiority" that they like to think they have over everyone else.

It's very easy to sit back and act like a smart-ass in a game and poke fun at everyone, however you have to realize that people have lives, and play this game because they find it interesting, not to sit around and act disinterested.. if you're disinterested or if you enjoy trolling, get a life.

eCanada has been ruined by people like these, who think they're above everyone else because they never "take it seriously". Trolls are the exact opposite of what they are in real life. Don't let yourself be fooled.

And congratz Coda on reaching 2 years on eRep. 🙂
