The longest trip of all.

My earliest memory is of walking with my father on the edge of one of the beaches that bathe the island in which we live. I remember my father telling me about my grandfather's exploits, the great battles he fought, and the legendary feasts he promoted and participated in. The story that perhaps most interested you started on a bloody night. The village in which my grandfather lived was attacked by looters in a vastly larger number of defenders of the village, and so the local men were forced to throw themselves into the sea to escape with life. Under normal conditions they would have stayed to fight to the death, but the harvest season had passed, and many women in the village were pregnant, so there was no reason to stay. And instead of returning to the village, hours after the attack, my grandfather decided to head southwest, and try to start life again elsewhere. The drakkar's fleet, the Viking warships, then began the longest journey of their lives.

It took three months to cross the immense ocean that separated his bloody home from the unknown lands to the southeast. On this trip, they confronted pirates, other Scandinavians, hunger, disease and great storms, capable of driving the holiest of men mad. Some women, in late gestation, had their children on one of the boats that made up the small fleet. They were true Vikings, born of the sea and living to the sea. When at last a lump of earth appeared on the horizon, a howl of joy was heard. The countenance of the sailors immediately broke free, now freed from anxieties and worries. As they approached, they realized that as a child, the place had nothing. It was a large island, with beaches of pure sand, crystal clear water, and verdant forests dominating the whole scene. Small cliffs and elevations, as well as exotic animals, complemented this picturesque place that would become his home.

As soon as they set foot on land, Marco Polo and Hugan, commanders of the Viking fleet (my grandfather was the third, nicknamed Salgado), tried to build a small, simple altar to revere the Great and Wise Dio Brando who, when all seemed lost In the midst of a violent storm, threw a ray of sunshine and pointed the way, away from the Death that was already abating on their faces. The women tried to find fresh water, while some men advanced into the forest, exploring, and others cut down some trees to build shelters, as the night drew near. And the children, free from the tight space of the boats, played as merrily as ever, throwing water and throwing pebbles as far as they could. One of these boys was known as a dinosaur, and he would become the First Great Thor.

I hope you have enjoyed the 1 chapter the night I will publish the second chapter
