Lack of Organization Calls for Drastic Measures?

Day 605, 19:44 Published in USA USA by Socialist Freedom Org

Since the release of the information regarding the election freeze, there has been numerous criticisms from both sides of the argument, and it seems that the loudest coming from the pro-freeze side is this: “This isn’t real life, and if we want to “win” the game, we must do this so we can help our allies stop foreign PTO’s.”

Now, while this can be constructed as a logical, game mechanics point, there is one problem decreeing the problems of “roleplaying” ;and that is eNationalism.

Simply look through the top eUS and latest articles, and nearly all of them involve a nationalistic bent, whether that be a scathing article on the evils of the PEACE organization, or a call to arms for all Americans, celebrating our history and solidarity as a nation. I have yet to see the opponents of Roleplaying criticize these articles, because it seems that roleplaying is wrong, unless the roleplaying is supporting whatever they support at the time.

This, for anyone who hasn’t noticed yet, is quite ironic. The eUS has existed since the beginning of the game, but there has been no revolutionary war, there has been no Pearl Harbor, there has been NOTHING involving (RL) US history in this game, but yet you will see many call to arms and uber nationalism articles detailing how we have struggled through our (RL) time as a nation.

This is simply hypocritical to preach how we should go ahead with an election freeze because RL has no place in eRepublik, then turn around, spreading nationalistic pseudo-propaganda.

Now, for a purely mechanical argument. Many people, including myself, find the voting aspect of eRepublik very enjoyable. Not only that, but I have yet to see any information regarding the success we will have against foreign PTO’s if we freeze the election. I have many doubts that simply not having to worry about the election will “free up” so many people that we will have a sufficiently sized USAF PTO force to affect anything. Not only this but we are supposedly taking this drastic measure to prevent PTO's in other countries. Are those countries being threatened by PTO's taking such drastic measures to save their own? Does it make sense for the eUS to sacrifice our enjoyment and choice for another country when their own citizens are unwilling to do so?

In the end, we will not only be blocking an enjoyable game mechanic, we will be doing so only on an assumption that we will be increasing an anti-PTO force to the point to be viable against PEACE. There are many citizens of the eUS that would be willing to volunteer their vote for anti-PTO operations but the suspension of elections discounts the spirit of volunteerism and turns it into disgraceful coercion. Let's not take drastic measures before other options have been explored. Let's see the USAF do some earnest recruiting instead of forced conscription.
