Starting on Friday, June 11th, the 2010 FIFA World Cup will kick off as Mexico faces host South Africa in the first game. Around the world, millions will tune in to the coverage of what is surely the world's most exciting sporting event. And in Erepublik, a community so nationalistic, the game will be overtaken by country pride for all those involved in this great spectacle of sport.

As such, in coordination with t'jelle bank and my own company, I am proud to announce the BETA version of Erepublik Betting Service. We're in the process of building a state of the art website to house our new company, but at the moment, it is not finished. However, I knew how so many users would appreciate this service coming out prior to the World Cup, and I know that it'll also be very popular during the World Cup. As such, I have created a simple and easy Google spreadsheet to tide us over until the website is complete (early next week, probably).

Erepublik Betting Service is not like other failed betting sites. Here, there is no pool where your money goes in to and, if you and 5 others win, the profits are spread amongst you. The "house" does not take a cut. At EBS, we are a legitimate, Las Vegas-style enterprise. If you win, you are paid according to the odds you bet on. If you bet on a 75/1 longshot and they win, you are paid accordingly -- a nice chunk of change!. For the World Cup, we will be using BetFair's website for odds. They are using horse-racing style odds (e.g. 5/1 for USA to win) and not line style odds (e.g. USA (+1) vs Algeria). This is how Futbol is usually bet on.

Accordingly, once your bet is submitted via the Google Spreadsheet, you will have one hour to donate your funds to the proper organization. If you do not donate in time, or the game starts before you send your money, your bet may be voided. If your bet is voided, your money will be returned and the bet cancelled. We have placed 500 gold in the vaults, so you can feel safe that you will get paid if you win.

At present, this entire process will be done manually. I have hired 3 trustworthy souls to manage the operation. If you have questions or complaints about your bets, I urge you to contact the organization in-game. Fairness is our number one goal. We seek to have a spotless reputation.
