It's that time of the year again (almost)

No, I don't mean Halloween, or that good-hearted old man, or his brother that comes way later. I am talking about the one event in the year that could either kill you, make you hate yourself, a social outcast, or perhaps anything else. They call it NaNoWriMo.

Now I don't know how many of you are any writing nerds, but I have decided to write a novel this month. So if I no longer respond to anyone or anything, either the above-mentioned things could have transpired. So, do any of you plan to take the plunge, or have you participated in the past?

Oh, and if I do survive NaNoWriMo... Well let's just say a couple of my friends over at world anvil are having their December competition WorldEmber
And I swear, that's not a plug just because I like and support them. But hey if you do write fiction, do check them out.

It's a science fiction novel
To quote the intro I wrote what, a year ago?

'The year is 2025 and by a fluke of human cooperation, humanity lands its first manned mission on Mars. The crew that landed near Olympus Mons discovered that the largest mountain in the solar system was really just a giant spaceship from some alien empire. The technology found on the ship propelled humanity a thousand years into the future, and by 2030, the first interstellar spacecraft was launched.'

50k words, not necessarily a finished novel. The idea is to at least finish a first draft.

Started a novel idea about a dystopian society about half a year ago. Never took off because I never take the time. Maybe I should pick this up again. How do you propel yourself to go and write?

You take some time, just sit down and write. You can always prepare by jotting down the plot, can be as granular as you like.
