As soon as I open my Erepublik page a message greets me "Place your Congress candidature 16 - 23 Aug"
We just had Party President elections and here we go again... Congress Elections are just around the corner.
Every month, from the 16th to the 25th, we have this festival of flashy manifestos, wonderful promises:
"Austria is going to be greatest country in the world - if you vote for me."
It can be done with the best of intent, it may be done with craving for personal achievements lurking under the garb of empty promises.
New (and old) Party Presidents and party tacticians are working overtime, to ensure that their party receives most seats in Congress.
Many a new citizen is led to believe that now that Plato has given the green signal, they can place their candidature for congress, gain votes, and become part of this great class of citizens, who determine the future of our nation.
But, there are rules..., sometimes obvious, sometimes little known.
This is Erepublik... moves you make today will follow you for the rest of your life in Erepublik.
Communicate
People in power, the more experienced citizens, have not reached where they are, just by working & training alone.
Tactics, planning, wisdom, endless discussions have gone into gaining the trust and respect they enjoy now, as well as having the many in-game accomplishments.
So talk, and talk some more.
Use every channel, the IRC, instant messengers, private messages, in-game, and forum.
Find those people who can guide you and than learn from them. (I am still learning, and I have been Minister, Congressman, Party President....)
Listen
This should be No.1 Rule.
I do not know if I should laugh or cry, when I see citizen who has just arrived in a country and he declares to everyone how he will improve the way country is run... he will improve economy, he will improve military, he will bring it better tax system.....
Every nation, every country has its own way of functioning, has its own problems, has its own system... and unless we take time in understanding this system.. we cannot improve it. And if that system works better than the new 'wonderful' ideas that are being thrown up, than new ideas need to discarded.
New ideas are good, but they need to be discussed, talked about, and than applied to the original system in order to improve the conditions in the country.
So, know the system that is in place.
Listen well and listen before you speak. You need to speak but you need to listen more.
Work
Work hard.
You wish to be Member of Congress?
You'll need to talk, you'll need to write, be active, supportive to new citizens, attentive to old timers.
This is Erepublik.
It is different from anything else out there, because.... What drives Erepublik?
It is real people from all over the world.
Erepublik is driven by Real people's personalities and opinions, where each and everyone has different and unique approach to the life, its problems and solutions.
Manifesto
I will not write a set or rules on how to write a good Manifesto. I strongly dislike them. Why? Most of them a written badly. They promise everything or they say nothing (sometimes both conditions exist in one Manifesto)
When writing your manifesto, understand your country, understand the system.
Be realistic.
Make your point crystal clear.
Let your Manifesto reflect your Political Party view.
Be Alive
Be active.
Let us see you.
Let us hear you.
Be part of Austria.
Be part of the team.
Erepublik is - 'SOCIAL, strategy'... so be social.
Speak in Chat room.
Take active part on National Forum.
There is much more to Erepublik than gaining 13 Level points through Training Wars.
Member of Congress

You have received 5 Gold.
You have received Congress Medal.
Plato displays message: 'Congratulations on winning the elections! May wisdom be bestowed upon your administration!'
Now what?
Congress is much more than an achievement. Congress is responsibility.
I have seen countries fall to enemy hands because 2 Congressman decided to leave the Congress.
When in Congress, vote responsibly.
You wish to propose the new Law? Discuss it first with fellow Congressman.
There is a Golden Rule in Congress... If there is no Discussion always vote NO.
Most important: You need to be responsible in your actions.
Moves you make in Congress will follow you for the rest of your life in Erepublik. People will remember you, by your actions.
