Interview with Mr.Indigo [eMkd MoFA]

Day 3,837, 04:58 Published in North Macedonia North Macedonia by MNR Makedonija

Hello fellow friends and allies o/

Macedonia and Brazil are in constant communication in the last few months. Both sides considered rekindling old memories. We are not in hurry, just working on improving of our relations. In the spirit of it, me as Macedonian MoFA decided to make an interview with the Brazilian Country President so Macedonians, and of course the rest of the eWorld get to know him better. I am in a bit of delay but better later then never, right? 🙂

So here is the interview. Grab your coffee/beer (/vodka) 😃 and enjoy reading.

Q: Who is Mr.Indigo in rl and what made him stay in erep for 9 years already?

A: I am a middle aged lawyer in real life that started to play browser based MMO games back in 2005 as a way to de-stress and ended up in eRepublik after passing through a couple of other games.
I continue to play eRepublik because I love to interact with other players through WhatsApp, Telegram and way back IRC and Skype.
Also, I actually enjoy the game itself, specially the military module, and I love the MU that I help to manage and maintain.

Q: According to you, in past what was the best time for Brazil in erep?

A: Brazil had two good phases in the game, I would say.
The first one was before our conflicts with Argentina back in 2013 and the second one was during our Asteria membership, from 2014 to 2016.

Q: How many alliances was Brazil part of?

A: As an official member, Brazil has been a part of: Peace, Phoenix, Panam/TERRA, CTRL, Sirius, Asteria and Syndicate.
We also were officially a member of PACIFICA for a few days back in 2016, but in reality we (and Argentina) had a bad case of miscommunication during the negotiations to join the alliance and all the parts involved agreed that it was best for us to leave, and we left on friendly terms with all members. Due to the situation and shortness of the whole episode, I can`t really consider this one as real membership.
Last but not least, we were members of CoT for a short time, but did not get to join it ingame.

Q: Was Brazil part of Andes? If yes, what happened? If not, why not?

A: This answer will be kind of long.
Way back during our Syndicate membership we in Brazil concluded that the so-called anti-Asteria military position was not viable.
It needed to make new friends in the game to turn the tide, but the best it could do was to rearrange the exact same pieces in different ways. An example of that were the countries that left Adriatica to join Syndicate.

Move forward a little and the whole situation got even worse when several PACIFICA countries decided to attack some of the Syndicate members.
Also, it is not fair or even realistic to have the balance of power in the game rely on the spending will of two or three players.
So, when we left Syndicate (due to incompatibility with one of the members) and shortly after that Syndicate disbanded, our whole focus has been to do something different in the game, and we also have been encouraging our South American partners to do the same in their own way.

That brings us to Andes.

We have the deepest affection for Argentina, that is why we left Asteria to continue our partnership with them (and let me say that we were the only ones that did that). We also have lots and lots of respect for Chile. However, in our mind, Andes was at its creation a repeat of what I mentioned above: a rearrangement of the exact same pieces that we all knew for a fact were not adequate to achieve the objectives of the alliance and, even worse, it gave a new enemy for Asteria to beat down. Also, if we joined, the traditional commitments of being a part of the alliance would block any attempt we could make to change the situation.

So, for all these reasons, we opted to not joind the alliance.

Q: What’s your opinion about current split of sides in the eWorld?

A: It is pretty confusing.
I actually expected to see at least part of PACIFICA go up in flames sooner or later. It is almost natural for that to happen when the server was more or less divided on three sides and one of those sides lose so badly as the anti-Asteria side did and in the way that loss happened and, lets not forget, due to previous e-history too, of course.

However, it still was a huge surprise to see how this latest episode in the conflict developed. I never would have imagined that USA airstrike on Croatia exactly at the moment when Hungary was needing help, and so on… Shocking events.
I guess that just like Asteria and pro-Asteria won the conflicts against Sirius and Aurora back in the 2014/2016 period, and won again against Syndicate and Adriatica in the 2016/2017 period, it will win again now.

There is no challenge left in military part of the game as things stand now. The outcomes of almost all real wars are pretty much a certainty even before they start.

Q: Why did you declare neutrality last time when South America was under attack?

A: First let me state that I was not the CP or the MoFA at that particular moment.

That said, the first thing we knew about that war was when we woke up to the airstrike law from, IIRC, Chile and Argentina. In other words, it was a war started by choice by our friends, without even giving us a heads up before they started the attacks.
Also, that is why it is not correct to say that we declared neutrality when South America was under attack, as it was a war started by South America itself, at least in my opinion.

We in Brazil were very upset with the whole situation, even more because we knew that a collective wipe would be the result, no matter our willing involvement or not.

Q: How does Brazil see itself in South America surroundings nowadays? Were there any consequences from being neutral when Argentina and Chile were deleted?

A: Like I said above, Brazil`s focus for the past year or so has been to do something different in the game.
We also have been encouraging our South American partners to do the same in their own way every single month.
Regarding the neutrality, we coordinated our actions after Brazil was attacked for the second time. It is just that the only way out of an occupation by Serbia and/or Romania is a NAP.

Are there any active pacts in Brazil atm?

We have few MPPs at this time, with just Bulgaria, Poland and Mexico. We have been helping Bulgaria through our MPP pact and by traveling to fight when they ask for priority.
We also have a wonderful training war with Argentina, with one planned epic every late tuesday, and another TW with Uruguay, this one in a ping-pong format.

Q: Macedonia has Greece as its natural enemy in this game. Does Brazil has its own ”Greece” in erepublik? If you were to get rid of one country in erepublik, would it be your “Greece?” (assuming you have one)

A: It is impossible to have perfect relations or to be friends with everybody and we are no exception, but we for certain have no “natural enemies” in the game or even in real life, well, at least outside of football.

Like I said, we want to make friends. 🙂

Q: I remember back in CoT, Brazil had some unpleasant history with Indonesia. I was even mediator between the two countries to overcome the issues. Do you still look at Indonesia as an enemy?

A: I actually had to go talk with some old dragons to refresh my memory about that episode, as it happened back in february of 2013 or so.
No, we do not look at Indonesia as enemies aside from what comes naturally from being on different sides of the server divide for a very long time, and it is that way at least since august of 2013, which is the month that we signed a MPP with them again.

Q: What’s Brazilian players opinion about Macedonia?

A: Passionate game players.
Fierce fighters.
Wonderful allies.
Badass enemies.

Q: Cachaça, guaraná or Vinho Quente (mulled wine)?

A: Hah, good question.
Guaraná is a pretty good soft drink.
I seldom drink alcohol, but caipirinha (cachaça mixed with one or more fruits) is kind of awesome all year long and mulled wine is pretty good in our version of winter here.

So, all three.

Q:Rio Carnival or São Paulo Carnival?

A: I hate to say it, but Rio Carnival.

Q: Reveal us something interesting we don’t know about eBrazil.

A: Our self esteem is pretty low these last few years due to the rampant corruption that plagues our real life politics and state, so I tried to find something light to post, and here we go:

Fishing with dolphins

Dolphins help fishermen catch fish

Q: Lastly, your message for the Macedonian players would be:

A: First I would like to thank Furious Lady for hearing us out and for giving us the opportunity to try to improve the relation between our countries in the game.

Brazil and Macedonia have a long e-history in the game. We have been good allies and we also have been good enemies.
I still remember back in early 2014, during our 9 month long wipe, macedonian players being one of the few players from the then Aurora alliance offering help to us and saying that something should be done.

Conflicts are an intrinsic part of a game that is built basically on top of simulated wars, but during the times we ended up in opposite sides Macedonia always behaved in a honorable way towards us and I hope that we acted in the same way toward Macedonia.
eRepublik has its cycles, and even if we can not say for sure that the current one is close to its end, I have no problem in saying that it is past time for us to start a new chapter for Brazil and Macedonia.

I would like to thank Mr.Indigo for the patience and time he spent waiting for me and answering the questions 🙂
The rest of you, dear readers, i hope you enjoyed the interview!
