Day 881, 18:09 Published in Australia Australia by infin

Fellow Australians,

I have served 4 terms as Senator for Queensland now. As my time in the senate matures so does my understanding of politics in eRepublik. The Senate primarily serves two purposes in our country: 1. to fund government policy and 2. to act as a check and balance against any Cabinet which may attempt to usurp the will of the people.

The greatest challenge in politics is to avoid reactionary decisions, to hold our nerve when the going gets tough. A fantastic example of this is when import taxes were decreased across manufacturing industries. The temptation two weeks after these taxes were dropped was to increase them again but the Senate stared this challenge down and Australia, as a result, flourished. In March we enjoyed the largest economic boom experienced for some time as workers poured into the raw materials industry. Tax receipts blossomed and incomes skyrocketed.

As a manufacturing GM myself, I won't say the reform has been easy to endure, but it was also pleasing to see during the recent war for WA that our gifts and weapons supplies remained plentiful - another sign that low import taxes are working for us.

I have valued the much closer working relationship between the Senate and Cabinet, and congratulate my fellow ANP Cabinet members on their part in a solid performance by the Cabinet this month. The major question I have for the Cabinet this term is: how have they learned from the Indonesia debacle and what is the path forward from here. Will the Prime Minister and Cabinet outline a vision for Australia's future?

The push to reform our economy and to stop wasteful practices never ends, our GFCs distort our economy, steal workers from our private sector, and waste taxpayer funds - they need serious review. Curbing waste will enable to Senate keep taxes low and to fund our military operations. NEXT STOP WA!
