We need to bring the life back to this country, I feel we can tap into a market, which we can obviously attract different types of people. May it be busy commuters looking for something to do on the train, or a High School kid looking for a hobby. Maybe a stay at home dad or a guy who just likes their games. The game itself costs nothing, if you want to put money into the game is up to you.
People enjoy it if you spend money winning battles upgrading companies etc.. Some would rather just play the game for other aspects of it, politics or the media for example. We have such a unique community here that people who have left the game stick around solely because of the community, because let's face it. Without us eAustralia is nothing, we make it what it is.
It is time we finally did something about a baby boom. We live in a country that is currently populated by 22 million people, obviously there is no exact figure I could give you but with a decent sized population I am sure there are heaps of people who could be potential players of this game. We are all sick and tired of being a small useless country to our allies, and I know we hate being wiped and we want to feel powerful, we have the chance to if we really try.
However, the only way I can see this happening is if we can somehow get the game out to the general populace. I have been thinking of a few mediums to get the game out there. One was obviously television which is not feasible.
Another would a celebrity or someone who knows a celebrity who could promote through social networks, obviously again not a tangible goal. The next is newspapers which are still commonly used for commuters, so I consulted the MX Newspaper which has steep prices for even small ads, so the only way that would be feasible is if the community put money in to get an ad in the paper.
Another is just online forums, we have had trouble recruiting from there in the past but we could reach out to further forums and social networking sites. I don't see facebook being a likely option.
This article has been mainly written in order to start a public forum as to ways we could improve baby booming mainly, while the Government can work on the Retention.
So please provide some ideas and ways to target people to join the game to improve your eRepublik experience and everyone elses.

Why would any normal person want to play this game?
In Australia, linger some weird people. There is a whole market of weird people we can tap into : P
What are you trying to say here Callumh123
Paying money to put out ads to get more players to make the admins more money.
lol, no thanks.
It was an idea, please do not comment unless you are actually going to add anything to the discussion.
I agree and I disagree, Cal. I have put out there on many occasions my services to enhance the innovative usability of the micro-game with media content. As reported, I am bring back eAus FM and - at one point - it's video counterpart eAus TV (the latter being web streamed or recorded and not as frequent, but doable with the resources I have).
Problems are two:
1) The following and actual engagement is so pitiful it disgraces the effort; and
2) The government institution doesn't support it. Now and again the odd administration that comes around will say 'hey great idea!' but you think you could get any promotional resources from them? BAHA! yeah right. Even if you strike gold with one CP's empathy, the next time comes some douche who says IDGAFF and that's that.
So sir, I put it to you in a question - WTF are we really talking about here? It's not out of lack of trying or failure to see the objective. It's lack of support all around to translate the project into a community-minded and engaged network.
I think we have to ensure our sandbox is in order with what we have, before inviting other kiddies in for playdates.
You answered your own questions with your last statement. More articles promoting baby booms and retention only help, this article was created for the soul fact that it try to engage a civil discussion on how as we as a community can work together for the betterment of the community.
part of it is just awareness. most people would not even know this game exists.
Now and again the odd administration that comes around will say 'hey great idea!' but you think you could get any promotional resources from them?
When we do people get all pissy that oh noes no battles we dont get to fight n blah blah blah so in turn why should the government support somethign the people clearly dont want.
I agree infin, which is why if eRepublik could be advertised through some mediums (Small radio stations, public news papers etc..) it would give the game exposure.
I have to say I think the erep radio is great. I know its been tried a few times but it generates interest albeit in only small numbers.
I think it needs time to grow.
Once its well alive, its a easy way to publicise the game. A forum post with a timely link to a live broadcast is much more inviting than the more common gaming site forum post with"friend" signup link that smacks of gold whoring.
Rather than pay for an mX ad, why don't a few people write into the mX vent section to promote eRep?
Also, if anyone knows anyone in/has connections with any sort of gaming/tech related website/forum/newsletter/whatever, perhaps you could suggest they do an article/promotion on eRep.
Paid advertising would either be too expensive or a waste of time (cheap ads = low exposure). Besides, eRep already advertisies, it was a web banner that led me here less than 2 months ago.
Venja you've got it but in a way you haven't got it.
This is simple micro-economics. The underbelly of this sage is the longer the community dwindles, down goes revenue. The expectation government has on its citizens to strategise to fill their coffers is disproportionate to the assistance they're prepared to put in.
Prime e.g. gov info orgs are money in the bank in terms of promotion. We have so many stupid standards whereby gov promotes the work of gov and that's it. How myopic is that?
I also agree we need to get our house in order first and stop the bickering. It's certainly a turn-off to a new player. It's almost led me to throw the towel in at times.
Case in point: The government can do their part of helping us to help them by promoting the meta-game's private initiatives.
Most of the suggestions raised are the typical, introverted views that someone cits owe the gov something. It's a two way street. Want cits to help? Give them a FKING hand. Fk you idiots make me so wild sometimes.
WTF is so wrong by promo'ing a citizen run fantasy football game, a radio station or meet ups on a gov article? It would be better reading than any gov BS
@b0ffin
If 1 of the bigger spending (in terms of RL and in-game tax, economic contributions etc) leaves, the country loses more NET than the gross worth of 4-5 genuine new players in terms of exp, rank and military strength they can provide to eAus. Until the current players than are here are valued for their ongoing contributions any such ill-conceived, tried-and-failed immigration strategy is a waste of font.
b0ffin, if you point me in the right way I will do that now.
TJ - Not sure I see the point. What you said is probably true, but if such a player was going to leave (other than due to RL time constraints arising - in which case they'd leave regardless of whatever's happening in eRep), wouldn't they have already left by now?
Callumh - You'd have to read the instructions on the vent pages on how to submit one (I've never submitted one so I don't know personally).
Until the current players than are here are valued for their ongoing contributions any such ill-conceived, tried-and-failed immigration strategy is a waste of font.
This 😁^
Callum, I certainly think that getting more players interested in the game is worth pursuing. I've tried on other games in the past to introduce others here. Unfortunately the results were not good, but it's always worth trying again.
TJ, if you want your private program advertised by the Govt of the day, just drop the PM a line each month asking for support. I imagine that most would agree to support anything that promotes activity. I know I would.
That's nice Binda but I think each needs to meet the other half way. True, CPs aren't mind readers. At the same time, the idea is so common sense in nature it's hard to believe that any CP that has wanted to do something along these lines wouldn't have done it already. Cits need to speak up but the govt needs to welcome the strategic input. Some seem to think we're on an even par when in fact we're not. While gov controls the game mechs, cits lead the innovation agenda of the meta-game.
got my facebook accounts, twitter and even my old friendster account recruiting for possible aussie players other there 🙂...
TJ, send me links to any activity-promoting article or event you think should be mentioned by Gov and I'll see to it that it is.
Even something as simple as a A4 poster that could be put up around Australian Uni's might attract some support. I would be happy to distribute some around my Uni (Flinders Uni in Adelaide).
On another not, I noticed today that our average citizen level is 19 compared to the rest of the world which is 27. This means IMO that the majority of players are not even sticking around for a week before throwing in the towel! This is a bigger worry for me!
