I was in search of the city of El Dorado in the hills of Sesquilé. It came to me that I should advise any hikers reading, that the picturesque valleys alongside lake Guatavita are just too exquisite to describe; this alongside the fact my surroundings neither inspired me or gave me the prospect of finding gold, I thought I might as well be in Morecambe bay. So I bought a moving ticket via SFSG moving tickets and off I went to the nice beach and quaint shops found there.

As I took in the sights you would expect from any other day or beach. I noticed a shadow on a grassy bank in the distance, a perfect circle, but not seemingly a cloud in the sky to cause it. I hurried toward the curiosity as fast as my flip-flops and fluffy-white-health-spa-dressing-gown would let me.

With my gown flapping in the wind and parents hurriedly removing their children from from the area, it felt like everyone knew something was amiss; although it could have been my lack of underwear. The flips stopped flopping as my pace matched that of the invisible man on the run for indecent exposure. It seemed clear that, for whatever reason, someone had painted a big circle on the ground! This was incredibly disappointing! Not only for me, but for the tearful kids looking out onto the shore from the backs of their parents, 'five star safety', people carriers.

I thought I would investigate to see if the paint was still wet as the perpetrators might still be around to question. I got to the circle, flopped a flip off, and used my toe to check. It was some kind of hole that sucked me in, not so pleasurably - toe first, and transported me into what I quickly discovered to be a solid rock enclosure. For a second, but like an hour, I wondered if I was alive or had even left reality as I knew it.

I saw a light. I stumbled to it. I found two boulders. On one sat a man, on the other rest a laptop. I said, “What the ****”, to which he replied in the most Zeus like, deafening, Dolby 100.4, omni-sound, “I'm Dan Moir”. I said could you lower your voice and can I ask you some questions, he wispered, “yes”, and, “six”. Here is a transcript as I remember it, Dan kindly remained in a hushed tones:

Enuuee: How many hours per day does Dan moir think about Erepublik?

Dan: Too many hours a day. I'm online about 5 hours a day. More at weekends.

Enuuee: What do you understand by the term democracy?

Dan: Democracy is government by the people, for the people. I wrote an article on it when I was very new in game. You can find it here.

Enuuee: why do you feel strongly about democracy as opposed to socialism for instance?

Dan: I believe in both democracy and socialism but I believe that the people should have the power to decide how to use their votes. It's the job of political parties to tell them why they believe they will serve them best.

Enuuee: Do you believe in divisions of power, if not why not, if so - to what extent and why.

Dan: Well there always has to be an opposition. It helps keep the political wheels turning and keep people motivated and working. It's natural that if things are going well, the party in power does relatively well. As soon as they slip up, the balance of power can change. With different parties representing different ideals, there will always be divisions of power.

Enuuee: Can the Euk ever be safe from, for lack of a better terms, spies or other org's / countries immigrating and ruling and holding our government to ransom?

Dan: We're relatively safe from that IMO. Takeovers usually happen to smaller, less active countries. We also have quite good citizenship guidance for congressmen to follow.

Enuuee: Do you wish the "two clickers" would become more politically or otherwise active?

Dan: Yes. I'd love everyone to get as involved as possible and reach their true potential. Whether that's politically or not doesn't matter - whatever they're interested in progressing at really.

Enuuee: At what point would you say that the Euk had or was winning on Erepublik?

Dan: There aren't really any winners on eRepublik. eUK is too small to conquer places and hold on to them and we don't really have valuable resources. We do well out of being part of a great alliance in which we are a very active part. If everyone recruited their friends to play, we could do much better.

Enuuee: If there are no winners then what is your personal aim in erepublik and why?

Dan: Aims change as you progress in the game. I tend to prioritise different areas at different times. This helps keep the game interesting for me and enables me to achieve a wider range of things over time. For instance, when I first started, I got involved in my region (prior to fortress London and the loss of hospitals). I joined TUP as soon as I was able and went on to represent my region in congress. After that I set up my first business. Since then I have held numerous positions within government ministries. MoHA has been of particular interest to me and I am currently the Minister of Home Affairs. In addition to that, I’ve been in the navy and am now a part of the SFSG.

End of transcript.

I had been beating around the bush and putting up with the usual amicable chit chat long enough; I needed to know, “What's with the black hole that sucked me in here?”. His face, ghost like, looked up from his screen. I thought some kind of yellow light was about to shoot out his eyes and fry me, but he whispered, “I don't know what you mean, I have nothing to do with that”. He was playing hard ball, he had to answer my next question, “how do you get out of here?”, he laughed and vanished into a puff of black smoke. He then reappeared for a brief sentence, “I forgot my laptop, oh and you, yes there is a switch on the wall behind you for the lights”.

While following the exit signs, finding the local town, and walking back from Barnstaple, I did some thinking about what had been said. I tied to think of some provocative analysis which might secure me further interviews with the guy. Democracy it would seem by his explanation is just a method of attaining a certain type of government, he did not touch upon the subject of representation. I quote his 'article on democracy':

“In our democracy we all get one vote. Make it count. Whether it’s for congress elections or Presidential elections, choose the person who you believe will do the best job for you and for the nation in general. Remember – you are voting for the person and not the party that they are representing. Your vote does make a difference. Not only does a high voter turnout mean a truer democracy but it also adds to your xp”

My only problem with the above understanding is belief. What does Dan Moir think of advertisement and it's effect on two clickers? What does he think of people voting for Emma Watson party and the like? Does democracy not need an informed vote? Should the two clickers vote at all if not rationally? I believe by not voting when you are not informed you are democratically showing no real opinion, I think the worst thing people could do is vote for the sake of voting and I disagree it gives a “truer democracy”.

Best wishes and Good luck Dan Moir
