Ian E Coleman: Running for Irish Dáil August 2011

Day 1,371, 11:21 Published in Ireland Ireland by Ian E Coleman

Est. 2010
Nineteenth Edition: Monday, August 22, 2011

This August, I would like to announce that I will be running for Dáil in Ireland.

I am very pleased to be able to run with Eire Aonair for the first time ever. In the past other parties have been very generous in giving our members the opportunity to run with them on Eire Aonair’s behalf, but it feels good to finally have Eire Aonair’s logo next to our member’s names on the ballots.

I will be running in Cork, Ireland.

Basic Election Information

Name: Ian E Coleman ([Citizen Link])
Country: Ireland
Political Party: Eire Aonair ([Party Link])
Region: Cork

Experience

April 2011 Dáil Member – During this term of Dáil I got to understand the mechanics of congress powers. I also came to understand the operations of the Private Dáil and Dáil protocols. April was an interesting term, and I was able to learn the challenges of Dáil first hand during a spell of miscommunication between the CP cabinet and Dáil that started our current war with the UK. I was also present through the impeachment of that months first CP. [April 2011 Election Link]

Founder/Multiple Time Party President of Eire Aonair - As a Dáil member I would hope to represent the same values and beliefs that I founded Eire Aonair on. Coming from an environment full of strong communication and team work should also make me a better TD. The party was founded to bring people of all political ideologies together under a common character of principles and a loyalty to a sovereign Ireland. I was only one of many individuals who built Eire Aonair into what it is today, but I'm proud to have taken part (and I will be continuing to take part).

Member of 7 Different CP Cabinets – Although positions like Minister of Information and Wiki are only minor roles in government, work in different cabinets has given me experience in the operations of government and a first look at the world of the Private Dáil. Studying the operations and history of eIreland through my work on the wiki may also have provided me with unique insight into the nation.

Activity
I also have 9 hard worker medals since September 2010. I have been active on eRepublik almost every day, I am active on eIreland's many forums, and I have recently started to become active on our nations IRC channels.

Philosophy As A Dáil Member

Discussion - It is probably impractical to expect every proposal to be discussed in detail because many proposals only present a routine voting situation. But in some other cases, a thorough discussion and/or explanation of proposals insures that TDs are using their votes responsibly, and that disasters can be avoided (ex. Timing going wrong, or TDs voting the wrong way due to a lack of understanding).

Citizenships - The ability to accept new immigrants is one of the most precious powers given to our TDs. While we can win back stolen territory, we will have a much more difficult time winning back our political freedom once enemies of a sovereign Ireland become enfranchised.
All appropriate measures should be taken to ensure that only the best individuals, intent on helping the nation, be given citizenship. TDs need to take this responsibility seriously, or they risk hurting the community of eIreland for everyone who is a part of it.

Impeachments - As I have said in the past, Dail should be extremely sparing about impeachments. In eRepublik, congress elections are set up so that a candidate with 0 votes in one region could beat out another with 4 votes in a more contested region. Because of this Dail is not extremely democratic. The CP on the other hand is elected by the largest percentage of eIrish voters.
It is important not to abuse the power of impeachment. Dail was given this power in order to behave as a check and balance. The power should only be used if a CP has definitely become inactive or has become considerably dangerous to the sovereignty and welfare of the nation. It is not the Dail’s place to second-guess the democratic process that gives us our CP – only to protect the nation from the objective abuses of that position in the most extreme cases.

Taxes - When faced with tax proposals I will consider the reasoning behind all new proposals. My inclination on tax issues is to aim for low import taxes on raw materials (in order to fuel the cheaper production of Irish final goods) and varyingly protectionary levels on final goods in order to protect Irish business without allowing it to become ineffective without competition.
I’m also for lower income taxes since commune workers avoid this tax and it would be unfair to burden conventional workers too heavily in contrast.

Alliances, Natural Enemies, and Military Matters - On these issues I will mostly follow the reasoning of the current Ministry of Defense in order to make our nations defense as smooth and quick as possible. These issues are often the most important in the game, and so watching carefully and staying informed is paramount.

Shout Out To Fellow EA Candidates

Good luck to all of the Eire Aonair Candidates who will be running this month. To my knowledge the list looks like this so far: seanlynch, Sir Adriano Prette, joeymillz, MikeBane, Darragh Davis, Viktor Kurgan.

Also: Johnny Jr. who is running with Peace 'n' Prosperity in New Zealand. He is an honorary member of EA, and we wish him good luck.
