I Need Your Votes

Day 675, 13:56 Published in Canada New Zealand by SledDog

My name is SledDog and I want to be re-elected to Congress from Prince Edward Island.

I have to confess that I am feeling a bit worried about the current results. I believe that I have been a good and reasonably effective Congresssman. I have, after waiting for CSIS to check them, approved citizenship for a number of people and my first proposed law - a real law, not an end of session special - is in the process of being voted for and looks like it will pass.

But there is a great deal left to do and I want to be there to do it. The War continues, but what do we do after the Hungarians are finally expelled for North America. We need to rebuild our infrastructure, and not just build what was there before but to improve on it. But it takes time and money to build hospitals.

We need to improve conditions for our industries, which means increased import taxes. But those can't be raised too rapidly or there will be a gap between what we need and what we can produce at affordable prices. We can't forget that the meaning of public servant is to serve the public, and the public is served by balancing affordable goods with the availability of jobs.

There are other tasks to do in Congress. Improvements to the military structure are ongoing. They are nowhere near to being completed. Since being in Congress I have observed a need for a more equal partnership between the President and Congress. It was made particularly clear when the UK Non-Aggression Pact was presented as a fiat accompli, because it was within the powers of the President to make it happen without even a word to Congress before the fact. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Most of all Canada needs Congress people who don't see the "job" as being just casting a vote on the Country Administration page. I've spent a lot of time on the eCanada Forum and the Congress pages there. I've expressed opinions and I'd like to think that I haven't embarrassed myself in the process. I like to think that I've been a good Congressman.
