I'm Sorry, but I'm Pissed
HeadmistressTalia
We in Congress have yet to live up to our promises to drop taxes from the emergency levels bad to the CPTA levels. We only lowered the food taxes back to their pre-emergency levels (yes, I sponsored that).
So... What happens now? We propose to RAISE THE FOOD TAX.
I voted no. But it looks like no one else agrees with me.
Bravo guys.

I wish you were my Congresswoman. In a completely political way.
Its ok Talia, there days are numbered.
It's okay Talia, you did nothing to stop them, so it's not like you had any wasted effort.
And so it begins.
Anyone want to bet that income tax is increased to 20% in every industry within a week?
That IS the plan Jon...
Jon Barack Bluejacket: Actually, you are right. Reading up on the eUS Forums, and anyone would know.
Talia,
The reason congress did not go back first because it would be a waste of proposals since right after we lowered them, we would be raising them again. I mean...this makes no sense. You and others say "I want war!" but when we need the taxes to pay for it you say "No! Idiots! I won't vote for you next election!"
Actually, I'm all for unfunded war games. A lot of other people seem to be for winning, which means higher taxes.
I am for honor and keeping one's promises. Which is why I'm pissed. I don't care if it takes more time. I don't care if it makes no sense. I don't care if they're just going to go up again.
I care about honoring my (and your) promises.
I never once said, "I promise to waste proposals for no reason."
Oh, great. I'm already paying a 20% income tax. I've had to stop training, so I can raise my wellness, instead of just treading water. Now, you asshats are gonna make food prices go up. Wow, thanks a lot. What exactly does the egovernment do for me anyway? You don't want to spend money on hospitals and defense systems. You don't do anything for lowbies. It seems like the only thing you want to spend my money on is funding an elite warrior caste that I really don't give a damn about. Screw your "tanks". I need my money for food and housing.
Do you have any idea how much war costs? This isn't RL where we can somehow get by with a $9 trillion debt. We actually needs funds or we may lose a few stars off that flag.
I also voted no. Lower VAT is good for our society, higer income tax is good for our businesses (keeping products domestic and not allowing foreign companies to undersell us), but a 10% increase in income tax is ridiculous for our domestic companies.
Anyone who agrees with such a stance should see the Umbrella Corporation forum here: http://umbrellaresearchcorporation.freeforums.org/
Join us if it fits your idea of a better world!
lol, your just not going to liston is why people are not getting into your little tax planning sessions. War this and war that and now we are lossing stars from the flag. What a bunch of bullshit.
I guess I have to start reacting the way our government does and just say, your wrong. Your Wrong, YOUR WRONG.
you see that is the only responce you get these days if you do not agree with there tax plans. No debate, no even trying to see your side its just, YOUR WRONG. I guess we all need to shut up now as our friend NoneSuch here puts it, and just let them be right because after all you know they have to be right if the rest of us are all wrong.
mindflay: You can't be wrong if you don't voice your opinion on the matter, which is what many members of congress chose to do.
I have had several debates in and out of the forum on this matter and posted several articals here in game. The one time I started to talk to your hero justin about any economics all I got was YOUR WRONG along with some other choice words. And every time there is an artical out about this we see only a few faces popping up and yours is one of them that always stands on the side of higher taxes. And not just higher taxes but higher income taxes, I see now we have whined I guess loud enough that they are giving a little ground on the import taxes and o yes lets through in some vat so that we can latter tell everyone how it hurts them and ofcorse it does when its put along side a 20% income tax. STOP F**KING with the taxes and give the first plan a chance to work.
I don't stand on the side of high taxes, I stand on the side of compromise. If you look into the debates I was originally proposing a 15% income tax, but as I ran the numbers and found out for myself how costly our military is I was forced to compromise with myself. Hell, even a 20% tax plan is cutting it close.
All of that data is based on what NS? what are we trying to do here is the real question. you know as well as I do that once that 20% tax is in place itll be hell to get it back down. that is why all the focus has changed to war insted of rebiulding the treasury. The problem with the fed was just the means to get what they wanted in the first place. I think teacher helped the very people he was trying to hurt in this sence.
You have every right to be upset, Talia. Integrity means nothing to certain members of Congress. Anyone following the debate in the forums can see that this whole thing has been a farce. Those who want higher taxes and a fully-funded military have apparently won the debate; anyone who suggested that it might be wise to deliver on a promise to return to the previous tax levels was jumped on and ridiculed. That's my take, anyway...
It's hard to blame them, though, when they don't have that much vocal opposition. Watching the debates, it becomes apparent that there just aren't that many active congressmen/women. It's like a watching a cute little debate between the "tax 'em high" duo and the "tax 'em higher" trio, with the occasional bit of input from the couple of folks who want lower taxes. When less than 25% of our elected officials are showing up for the debates and almost all of them want to milk you for all your worth, this is what you get.
And look, when key members of the government are making comments about regular citizens having "entitlement" issues because they want more of their paychecks or suggesting that certain things should be proposed to throw the citizens a bone and "shut them up", something stinks. I'm thinking that it's time for a voter revolt.
Election/Judgment Day is coming...
Nonesuch and Jewitt:
Yeah, I've read up on this on the forums, and I am aware of the plan.
I also seem to remember that when One Eye first explored this idea in the forums (Feb 7 or so)? his idea was that some benefit should go to all sectors of the military, including the NG, not just the Tanks.
It would be a little more honest if you'd just raise everyone's income tax at once. I think you are doing it one industry at a time to reduce dissent.
JBB, It is being changed across the board, but you have to go one industry at a time. That's just the way the game works.
Publius: thanks, I didn't know that.
Still disagree, thought. 🙂
Food and gifts are a newbie's staples. It's all we have. We can't really afford a house, and most likely would end up buying the house used anyway. Up taxes on things like weapons and houses, which you rich people can afford anyway, and us newbies can live without. Up all taxes is NOT a solution. A comprehensive tax plan is needed, with reasoning behind it.
Jythier, you want us to drop the food and gift tax from 3% to 1%? Not much of a difference.
Once again I find myself happy I lost the election so I don't have to deal with this BS. Instead I find myself dealing with it in the Army. Congress never ceases to be a bunch of greedy self-fulfilling degenerate buffoons. No offense intended to you Talia and the few other honorable Congressmen/women but the majority of you are downright despicable.
