How to waste 110 gold
infin
Hillbilly Jim has already posted an article about the Austalian Engineering Corp Bill here. He made some very valid points but I just want to expland slightly on this to demonstrate the error of dante623's logic:
The idea is for the government to establish a Q3 iron in Spain which produces iron for the weapons GFCs back home. The underlying thoery is that the government will be able to produce the iron more cheaply than by buying it on the open market. So let's deconstruct this theory.
1. The Q3 Iron GFC will have a gold start up of 110g.
2. The GFC will employ local Spanish labour and so be forced to pay market rates.
3. If the GFC pays the same labour rates as all the other iron producers in Spain then its per unit cost will be the same as the other Spanish GMs?
4. The Australian Government has just paid Admin 110g for the privelege to make iron in Spain like every other Spanish GM does. The Government's cause is no further advanced and the GFC is ripe for mismanagement due to the sheer workload of managing this fleet of GFCs.
5. In the private sector, each GM fiercly guards their companies because it is their own money at risk. It is far more likely to be fully staffed and operating at peak capacity thus producing lower per unit rates.
This new GFC will just waste 110g and does nothing to secure Australia's interests. I urge all Senators to reconsider their vote and vote "No".
Comments
Already reconsidered mine, and have voted no.
I am certainly voting NO to such extravagant waste by the government.
I urge everyone to vote no. Keep in mind - the figures quoted are just to start it up, and it will almost certainly continue to drain revenue in order to keep the company afloat.
It will only drain revenue if we put an idiot in charge of it.
@Aeros - If you could explain how you envision it being profitable, please share the plan.
More specifically - given the current cost to produce iron per unit vs. what it sells for on the market, how many months will it take to possibly see us recover the 110 gold investment? I'm not trying to be a pain, but I would like to see how the fate of this proposed GFC will be any better than our other GFCs.
Infin the bill was open for discussion for 48 hours and you already put forward your view it up to individual senators now - so why sudden need to open all new anti bill topics?
Elite, I don't see why it's such a big deal if Infin is sharing his concern with the eAus public in game...
I think no. 4 says it all.
Elite Destroyer, living in a democracy means we can make an article on just about anything we like. It's great isn't it?
We the public like to know who is doing and saying what .

Far Flung Enterprises I will always keep writing about what is going on in the Senate. It is the voters' right to have transparency and know what their elected officials are up to.
wawaw
Infin, I couldn't agree with you more. This is something which will only manage to make extra work and cost extra money, all at no gain.
Thanks for discussing this with the public.
Baring in mind I haven't read the bill, shouldn't the government use military workers in the company? That way avoiding the need to pay market rate for workers?
For a change we agree thought infin! But for different reasons.
Although I think the Australian military should start concentrating on investing in a titanium based army. We'll obviously need iron for a diversified military but surely we can run them from medium regions (from GFCs that don't need to be profiable) or importing from allies if need be.
I don't see the point in a significant investment like this while only months before the whole system is turned on its head.
Good points made Infin.......
[nods] Well argued Infin.
Show the public, show us!
