How I learned to stop worrying and run for PP

Day 1,936, 09:54 Published in United Kingdom Ireland by Lightning43

With the 15th of the month fast approaching, it is my pleasure to announce my intention to run for ESOs party president for the next month. Please have a read and if you would like to, vote. If you do have any queries or concerns, feel free to send me a message. Also keep reading for opportunities on how you can get involved and help out your party below (should I get elected that is).

Before I get into why I feel you should vote for me, I'd also like to wish the other candidates luck in the election.

Introduction - About me

I thought it fitting to start with a little about me and just why exactly I decided to run. I have been playing now for over a year, I joined during a period when the eUK was wiped and our focus was, quite rightly, on regaining our independance. After about a week of considering which party to join, I had narrowed it down to two, ESO and PCP, mainly based on messages I had recieved from members of the parties and also what interested me in general about the game. I decided to join ESO and have never left, truely making it my home. In my opinion, it is the people that make this party great and the main reason I decided to join. I won't name them but rest assured your efforts in making ESO the party it is are very appreciated.

The wrong kind of party...

I feel though that it is time for me to run and give just a little something back to the party and hopefully, you think so too.

Plans

I'll start this section of with a little disclaimer. I'm not going to propose any radical changes or even suggest completely new ideas that I can guarantee have never been done before. If I have copied an idea from somewhere, it is because I believe that they work and I hope that you take it as a compliment.

The fundemental principles of the party will remain the same and I will work in co-operation with our constituition.

- I will uphold the rights of our members to vote as they wish. Though a ballot is held for CP elections, there will never be pressure for you to vote for a particular candidate. Further to this, I will continue the policy of not offering support in exchange for positions in government, the ballots result is final.

- Under my term, we will remain a party of individuals, each with our own views, equally as valid as the next persons. If anyone disagrees with how the party is being run or has an idea then they will be encouraged to speak up and present their case. It is your party just as much as mine. That said, anything raised should be done in a polite and logical manner. We are all here to play a game and no one deserves to be treated with abuse regardless of history or actions and I will protect our members rights to play the game as they see fit.

Anyway enough fluff, some actual plans...

Position of the party

Currently our party is in the regretable position of 6th. I'm not going to make any wild promises that we will have 50 new members by this time next month etc but I will promise that recruitment will continue and our aim will be once more to enter into the top 5. In the past few months this has largely fell on a few individuals to do, I'd like to see more people getting involved. See below if it is something you are interested in.

Conventional pictures were a bit boring

Retention

I have mentioned recruitment already but what I am a firm believer in is retenion over recruitment. I think a party should be judged on how it treats their members and not just the amount of them.

At the start of my term, there would be a party wide census. Rather than a tool to see how active the party is, I see it as a way to hear your views and any ideas you have. Using this information, guides on things that our membership base doesn't understand will be published or linked to if one already exists.

Some of you will say that this is the job of the Ministry of Home Affairs which is true, it is but if there is an issue that someone doesn't understand then a guide is needed and unlike the ministry, as a party we have the ability to focus on a smaller range of citizens and tailor guides to them. This will also provide experience for people who want to be involved in the politics side of things.

On the other side of things, I would like to introduce games once again to ESO. These will range from simple quizes to more elaborate ideas for games with the majority being based in game to improve the accessability of them.

A more extensive plan I would like to work on is to create a healthy competitive environment between parties. When people aren't talking about politics, you may actually find you really like them and any disputes that happen are more likely to be polite and friendly if you have talked to the other side in a more friendly environment.

It is an ambitious project and one that will only work with input from you with what games you'd like to play etc. I'd also like for it to evolve into a league system similar to the MU league to add a little extra competitiveness to the party side of the game. If it is something you'd be interested in helping organise and run, then please get in contact.

You ain't getting away from us

Media presence

Whilst articles were released last term, I feel that we really struggled with getting attention to them. Not very imaginative but what I'd like to see here is when articles are produced, for them to be shouted to friends because afterall a guide about something is of equal use to someone in another party and updates from other parties are always nice to read. It also brings the schemes we run that benefit new players more attention. One thing that I don't condone however is vote buying and ESO will continue it's policy of avoiding buying votes. Should votes be bought for one of our party articles, you can be sure it wasn't by one of our members.

Congress elections

Despite our target of regaining entry into the top 5, contengencies must be made to ensure we still have an impact on policies in the country. Being out of the top 5 isn't the big deal it used to be however and I will look at working with other parties to ensure we are represented.

Seems sensible to mention the "divide" here. I believe what we see as the divide is purely just individuals on all sides that don't like or agree with each other which sometimes escalates into becoming a party issue. I believe the majority of any one party will get on fine with the members of any other and to that end I am more than willing to work with any party who is willing to run our candidates, regardless of our history. Any offer from another party will however go through a ballot with members to ensure we get the deal that most accurately represents our needs. An important side note though, I will not sacrifice the independance of our congressmen. Just because we run with a particular party does not mean we will vote the same as them. Our congressmembers will always consider what is best for the country first.

Open to everyone

If you have got this far, well done! If I get elected then hopefully it should be a very busy month but for everything to get of the ground and for everyone to get the most out of it then I need your help in running and organising things. If anyone is willing to help in anyway, please get in contact with your areas of interest and even any ideas you have. No one will be turned away and I will find a place for you. I see running a party as very similar to running a country, it's just with less people and less risk if something goes wrong. If politics is something you want to get involved in then please get in touch and we can find something that will give you much needed experience for future work in the government.

Of course for all this to become a reality then I need your vote come the 15th, which hopefully I have now given you some reasons to consider it.

Tl:dr?

I'm running for PP of ESO this month, please consider voting for me and make sure you get involved and help out your party!
