Historic New Allies: USA-Hungary MPP

Today marks the beginning of what can truly be called a brand new friendship in eRepublik. After all, the Hungarian people have been on opposite sides of the battlefield since the days of PEACE GC. It has been so long that people can’t exactly recall if we had an MPP before that. So much time has passed that the in-game MPP proposals from those days are corrupted by coding errors.

It’s been seven long years.


Yet, just about a year ago, we began to find ourselves on the same side of the battlefield, following the USA-Asteria NAP. With this came a reunion with past allies like Argentina, Brazil, Portugal and Greece. It brought us new allies like Slovenia. Yet, there were some nations like Hungary that we kept at arm’s length. After all, they were a traditional enemy. There was a stark distrust between our two nations that had existed for a long time.

This is a nation that is historically incredibly close to Serbia. SER-HUN is one of the most storied relationships in the game. We fought against them with Atlantis vs. PEACE GC. We fought them when they were in Phoenix. We fought against them when they were in ONE, TWO, and a brief time in Asteria as well. They’ve been involved in various invasions of the eU, to top it all off. It was only natural that we would keep our distance after such a history. However, with time, this mistrust and apprehension began to erode away.

Our two nations began to communicate more and open up to each other. This was natural, being on the same side of world relations. At the beginning of this term, when I laid out the case for an MPP between our two nations, the Hungarian government was more than happy to consider our request. After talking for a few days, they came back to us with their official decision and told us that they would love to have an MPP with the eUS.

So today, a new friendship truly begins. It is with great joy that I can say this, and it is with great joy that I voted to approve the MPP in-game. This is truly a historic moment for the communities of Hungary and the USA. It is my hope that we work together to keep building on this relationship, that it may flourish in the next months and years to come.


Yet, right after we were celebrating this achievement, word came that they were under attack from the vengeful force of a Romanian MU and their allies. Knowing what it is like to be under threat of a foreign MTO, the US decided we would do whatever we could to help. While it was the dead of night, we couldn’t do much, but we put them as our military priority and hoped for the best.

It is with great satisfaction that after a couple of classes today, I was able to log on and see that Hungary had taken the lead. The fact that Hungary could overcome this speaks to the strength and resilience of their community and their allies. When they fell behind, they sprang back and were able to take back the lead and seal control over their nation.
